As I understand it, if you are simply extending a non-O for retirement, you don't need to show that the 800k has been imported.

But since the GBP equiv. is above the limit for bringing into T/L, you would need to declare it at customs anyway (or risk getting it confiscated..??). Get the paperwork from them and there's your proof whether you actually need it or not.

Of course, TW is much simpler, and you know what rate you will get, if the GBP does crash before you manage to exchange the cash.

I would be extending a 90 Day Non O based on me being in receipt of my U.K. State Pension for 1 year.

i was told rightly or wrongly depositing cash in my Thai Acount wasn’t acceptable you had to show it was transferred from out with Thailand.

What paperwork would I have to show at Customs, a letter from my U.K. Bank ?

I just checked it and the transferwise fee was about £105. So actually for such a large amount a fixed fee of about £20 for a SWIFT transfer from your UK bank might be cheaper, but make sure u request it sent in Thai baht not GBP as the exchange rate is much better, or it was last time I did a SWIFT transfer many years ago. The exchange rate will still be inferior to Transferwise but overall it should work out much cheaper than £105.

    Check this comparison out, £1000

This one too transfer the equivalent of 800000 baht.

I come over 4/5 times a year from Dublin. I just keep checking between Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar , but my dates are not set in stone. I always get here and back for under €550 . it my max guide... €495 was my best this year

Yes but the question is why airlines charge more when booking a flight from Bangkok, do a comparison on Skyscanner the same dates Bangkok to Dublin.

Since this thread has already been hijacked by the usual moaners, and is hence off-topic, I feel free to add my tuppence worth.

Airlines, budget ones in particular, use every trick in the book, much like banks do, to make people pay over and above the basic cost of a service. I therefore consider it one of my missions in life to do all I can to mitigate these extra charges. If and when the airlines' rules change, I will adjust my habits accordingly; until then I will continue to save money, self-confessed Cheap Charlie that I am.

I have used Emirates flights from Newcastle for nearly 5 years, they are definitely cutting back, I believe there was a fall in profits recently.

Before when you booked a flight you could choose your seat, no charge, now there is albeit you can do when you check in. I am a solo traveller so it doesn’t bother me but a family group will want too ensure they have seats together so will probably pay up front.

Whilst you can choose meals to suit your diet the choice of a fish meal has been removed from the menu.

They used to come round serving pre dinner drinks, they don’t now.

No small bottles of wine, served from a large bottle to you in a plastic cup. You can still order drinks by pressing the call button though.

The food tray has got smaller with less on it albeit as far as airline food goes Emirates is better than average.

i have flown KLM/BA but Emirates is nearly always the cheapest option and after my experiences with KLM/BA I would only use them as a last resort.

Just done a comparison, Skyscanner Bkk to Newcastle on 1st Dec, 15 days.  Emirates £1260, BA £1547. Reverse the trip Emirates £534, BA £768. Fuel, landing fees, staff costs exactly the same. Bkk to LHR same dates....Emirates £903, BA £1422. Reverse it Emirates £517, BA £631. It just does not make sense.

I have emailed Emirates about the difference on several occasions but they never reply. I have tried the ‘live online chat’ but got nowhere there either, they just say there prices are ‘live’ online prices and can change, followed on by saying they are competitive.

  6. I have asked Emirates on several occasions but I have never had a satisfactory answer why there is a difference between the flight price when booking flights from Bangkok to Newcastle in the U.K. I take my partner and I have too book Bangkok to Newcastle occasionally.

On average it’s over £200 more too book a flight from Bangkok to Newcastle than Newcastle to Bangkok, the taxes etc are the same only the fare is more, it’s the same flight numbers etc.

BA operate a similar flight, change Heathrow, the same price both ways but I prefer to fly Emirates.

  7. The U.K. owned agencies will be the losers, on average they made around £30 for the Proof of Income Letters, they were legit as far as I know.

The agents who could profit are the ones who season the 800000 in a Bank Account for you. I am positive the customer base will increase meaning more income for them as there will be many expats using the monthly income but don’t have the required 800000 in the bank.

  8. What’s Big Joke actually done up to now, rounded up a few black persons, easy targets. If he was serious he would be visiting the Immigration/Agents Offices known to be issuing Visas to people with false documents,  re money in the bank for 3 months.

Has he paid a visit to any Banks who issue the letter stating The money has been in the Bank for 3 months when it goes in and out on the same day ?

So you think that just because we receive a receipt the money doesn't go to corrupt bosses? Bit naïve aint it? Police corruption in Thailand works on what I like to call a reverse pyramid scheme...the more money the lower level plebs can make for the boss at the top, the more makes its way eventually down to them...army crackdowns on Russian mafia and illegal workers in Pattaya has obviously made a serious dent on Jomtien immigration's bank account...thus the recent need to fine for TM28/30 non-compliance...next year they'll just go back to the 1979 manual and find something else to hit us with...

No I am not naive, yes they could have 2 receipt books, one official one for themselves ?
