Take a look Here
-
For me I always take the first shot I saw - after all that's what caught my eye.
Then I walk around and look at other possible angles.
Then I shoot varying the DOF
Finally I move in for close up detail (where relevant)
But when I'm on safari none of this applies - I just use a long lens and get the hel_l out

Bought a 5D Mk II a couple of months ago, but would buy a 7D if I had not already got a range of full frame L lenses. It is clearly smarter, faster and lighter from all that I have read.
I was widely published in days when I had a cheap second hand Canon 10 body - film-based. Don't get intimidated by the £ spent on a camera body. Quality of photographer is No 1, quality of lenses no 2 and quality of camera body last.
Agree and indeed was (is) most certainly the case with film equipment however I put forward that in todays digital realm the "marriage" of quality glass with a quality sensor is essential. A weakness in either will outweigh the benefit of the other.
In this respect I consider these items of equipment need to be paired.
But, as you rightly say, they're only tools - the photographer makes the photograph
Enjoy your 7D

"fill the frame", "rule of thirds", "use a tripod", long lenses for wildlife - Jeeze!
Bloody obvious if you ask me and nothing there that we haven't discussed a zillion times on this forum.

I vote gear slut Vulcan. As a shoe slut myself, I recognize the signs in others
dam_n - and I'd just convinced myself they were essentials :D
Oh, but they are essentials. Totally essential to you in maintaining a happy and satisfied state of mind. Just like my shoes.
Yes Yes Yes - you're right - they are essential.
Phew that's a relief

I can manage exposures at 1/15th with my IS lens equipped DSLR - BUT THEY AIN"T SHARP! i.e. tack sharp.
Conversely, with my MIROR-LESS GF1 this speed is possible - with great care. No mirror = no vibration.
I waited ages to get this image just right and suddenly the light dropped I was at at 1/15th ISO 640 with an 85mm lens wide open.
It just ain't sharp
I was a fool to attempt it and in a second the cavorting guy at the rear had disappeared! Shot lost

Interesting extension on my opinions of what makes a good photo
Easy enough to remember I guess

Unless you are the New York Times this is already how it works anyway except the part about paying the government a fee.
The two industries I work in online both have rampant photo stealing. Even if there is a watermark or something on it people just crop that out. Very difficult to prove that sort of thing. Again this is for small to medium sized websites and blogs - not huge corporations. They would be opening themselves up to too much liability doing that.
That's disturbing to hear.
Assuming full IPTC, keywording and metadata is intact would this not identify theft and expose their actions?

Outcome of my lens alignment test using "Hughden" Lensalign tool.
Camera on a tripod, align tool also on a tripod.
I spent absolutely ages lining it up but got it smack on in the end.
and this is the outcome.
+ adjustment is to correct front focusing
- adjustment is to correct back focusing
70-200 F4 L IS no adjustment
24mm F1.4 L +5
35mm F1.4 L +10
50mm F1.2 L no adjustment
85mm F1.2 L +15
100 macro f2.8 +5
17-40 L No adjustment
Sigma 12-24 +13
5 out of 8 lenses needed correction!
Interestingly all the errors were attributable to front focusing
My initial tests using my computer screen and downloaded charts was inaccurate
This lensalign tool is far more scientific and believable

Tik Shiro - Thai celebrity, artist, singer and entertainer
I like this image because I like the guy himself. For such a high profile individual he was amazingly approachable and a very genuine man.
A few of the Western celebs could learn a great deal from this guy.
Here he's exhibiting his artwork which he describes as "Music in Art" - impressive.
p.s. I'm impressed with the Canon 580 flash - a black suit against a white wall!

Showing your age now, at the time I had a mac2 and upgraded to an Fx, that ring any bells?
But I started with an Aerograph and CS10! somehow wish I could turn back the clock
I remember saving all my money for the latest and greatest Pentium 200 - what a machine! LOL
I think it was 64 megabytes Ram and took 15 minutes to open a 2 Mb file - good old days eh? :D

Launched 19th February 1990 Photoshop is today twenty years old.
Amazing.
I remember going on my first PS demo at Jessops in Leicester in 1995 - I was stunned.
It had such an impact I immediately sold all my film gear, darkroom equipment etc and rushed off with the proceeds to purchase an Olympus digital camera and computer.
I just can't imagine not having Photoshop these days.

I've just downloaded this and it certainly does seem to give a bit of "pop" to images
I'm still playing with it but as an early indicator I'm impressed
GF1 - 20mm

And what is the best one among the well known:
- Flickr
- Google Picasa
- Photobucket
...
Is there any "best" one actually?
Well, it clearly ain't Flickr if your disappearing images are anything to go by!
-
But well, you need the very expensive photoshop first...
As the heading is "PHOTOSHOP PLUG-IN" I figure most of the readers will have picked that up!

I expect to "bite the bullet" and fly with Air Asia soon, another good reason for a camera that will fit inside my laptop bag, rather than requiring a dedicated own SLR bag.
I wasn't aware of this - a new ruling?
Limitations on hand luggage taken on board, a Laptop and SLR Camera bag is pushing it.
I even had problems checking in with KLM (a full fare airline) via Amsterdam last month.
Has anybody had bad (or good) experience of flying AirAsia with excess hand baggage?
(sorry if this is getting a bit off topic)
I flew AirAsia last September to Cambodia with my DSLR around my neck and carrying my complete camera kit as hand luggage. (pretty heavy believe me) and must have been excess. They didn't check it.
Not the slightest problem!

Could a Mod remove all these "blanks" please - ruining the thread!

This looks a nice plug-in and so cheap
Click on the image white border and then roll over the mouse - pretty dramatic adjustments

I suspect there will be an enormous rise in popularity for the likes of Google Alert, Tineye, Google Analytics etc
