  1. As for the NaJomtien derelict, I am told it will soon be resusitated as a Marriot after construction is complete. Said to be a project of whiskey baron Khun Chareon-money no object if it is!

There are at least two such resusitations I can recall. the Jomtien Thani and Northshore Pattaya beach road both very successful.

  2. "Yorkies" pies were always a really good buy until around 18 months ago, when unfortunately, the chap that owned the business passed away.

He passed on the recipies to his Thai wife, who is continueing to run the business.

    <deleted>

Who has ever eaten a Pork Pie with the filling from a Cumberland Sausage ????. And it was not even moist - just as dry as a towel.

That was my last experience of a Yorkies Pie. A great shame as their Cornish Pasty was as good as any UK made pasty.

What cr-p. Norman's widow, Eileen, is a bonny English lady who may well be the brains behind the brand's phenomenal success. The racist caste of your post destroys its credibility

  3. Nice picture of the black sludge city run off thats filtering into the swimming area though....... .

These are actually fingerlings or immature fish which swarm like that naturally. More a sign of health of the water there and the opposite

  4. In case it is a help to others here is the procedure to replace a car tax tag/sticker that is lost or destroyed while current.

First you will need a Residence Certificate from the Immigration Office. Available within an hour for Baht300. This requires you to present your passport, one set of signed copies of visa pages including TM card, front page and latest entry stamp as well as 2 photos. I provided a recent receipt with my address as proof of location.

The Motor Department near Highway 36 and School of Regents requires you complete a form in Thai which briefly explains loss. I got the form filled in across the street by concessionaires. You get the blank form at the front desk on entry to ground floor. The completed form is then tendered after you have a queue ticket to Window 4 on the ground floor. Form must be accompanied by passport, signed copies of visa and TM pages thereof and the Residence Certificate from Immigration together with the Blue Book for the vehicle.

Fee for this is Baht25 and replacement is available within a couple of hours. You can come back the following day if you wish. All this took about 20 minutes. They hold the blue book until tag is issued.

All this hassle was caused by a super senior moment when I "replaced" the tag with the old one and threw out the new. I am no expert on Thai year dates!

I wish to compliment both Immigration and Motor transport offices for prompt service. One wonders how friendly or at least neutral service can be maintained when you look at the immense volumes of work especially at the crowded Immigation Office where the work is absolutely non-stop.

One last word. The Thai for car tax sticker is "tag"; just the English word I guess.

  5. The reason for three bills is clear-each doctor has a lease style contract with the hospital rather than being a straighout employee. This for tax reason. Hence separate bills.

  6. Strangely enough I noticed it only yesterday when shopping at Big C South Pattaya.

It is on the street that runs along the northern side of the Big C complex which runs from Sukhumvit into the old shopping zone. Many food carts on one side and businesses like AAA insurance on the same side as Nokia. It is well signed.

    Good luck

  7. You can charter baht buses from anywhere you find a baht bus!

All I'm saying is there is no BUS service at all on that Soi. Nothing.

On Beach road going past that soi, yes.

Yes that road is usually the end of the line (sometimes before then) for buses going from Pattaya.

Any further, almost always would need to convert into a private charter.

I have no comment about your picture.

You might want to look into a private vehicle.

It seems to me that would be an area where relying on public transport would be impractical.

Hi all and Jingthing (thanks for constant informative posts)

Now tanon Chaiyapreuk 1 seems to have a Baht Bus service. Always seeing 2/3 baht buses during the day queued in front of Mimosa Restaurant about 100 metres from Sukhumvit when I drive past which then take off towards the beach.

Also someone (Baht Bus Co-operative?) is trying to establish a service along new Jomtien Second road. A dispatch station ( a table, a chair and a starter) has been established at the head of Jomtien Sai Song within 30 metres of Sukhumvit. I followed one bus which after travelling along Jomtien Soi 2  turned left at Chaiyapreuk lights to go to Jomtien Beach Road. OK I realise this seems stupid but duh!!!

My guess is it will be very unlikely that song thaew services will extend to the La Royale/NaJomtien Police HQ area in the forseeable future. Hiso area with very little traffic

  8. I have lived here for 20 years. For 15 of those I have used Dr Tapasit who used to be at BPH but now has his own sophisticated practice next to Dolphin Roundabout/Dusit entrance.

he is US trained speaks perfect English and is besides extremely competent fair with his pricing.

    Highly recommended

  9. Dr Tapasit has looked after my fangs for 15 years . Caps and bridges excellent(comment by an Aussie dentist. Tapasit was educated in US and has Ivy League degrees. Very highly recommended. As well as that he is a nice guy

  10. May I add my regrets this nice man has passed away and my condolences to Eileen.

This couple built a significant and successful business from nought with hard work and fine quality, Always a pleasant word to customers who over time became, as I did, to feel more like friends.

  11. I went with 3 friends the other night to try this place out.

First of all, I now understand the "UK Chinese" description. The servings were enormous, perfect for eating to soak up the booze during or after a heavy night out. There was liitle or no resemblance to actual Chinese cuisine of any region except perhaps Nottingham!! but then that is what is advertised.

That said, our wonton soup was rated as excellent, crispy duck in a generous serving as OK+, starters-vile, sweet and sours, 2, pork and prawn to meet individual needs, below average, szechuan beef-OK.

Service was friendly indeed but a bit pressed in my view with about 50% occupancy but that could have been a kitchen problem. The decor rushes you back to suburban Sydney or Manchester-spot on, clean and comfortable.

Prices, food and drinks, could not be more reasonable given the seeming good ingredients and serving sizes which as I mention above are huge.

My bet is this place will be a winner, giving generous clean nosh at more than fair prices in a nice venue and a convenient location. Those seeking Chinese food, however, might best cast their eyes towards the Montien, Dusit or, if the Chrysthanenum is still going, the Royal Cliff and accept a cheque bin several times greater than a filling meal at Chinese garden will cost.

  12. I am looking to buy on the "secondhand" market, a golf club membership for a club in the Pattaya area. Anywhere from eastern Star to Khao Khiaw would be of interest.

Would members here kindly share any knowledge they have on this topic please?

Mod. If this is the wrong forum please tranfer

  13. Anyone know of a decent lawyer that doesn't charge the earth, somewhere in Pattaya.

I suggest A.C.E.S. Advisors - attorney Rachain Kluanklard

    Tel: 038 411 127

Their office is on North Road, on the top floor of The Balcony restaurant, on a baht bus route.

A very competent law office, English speaking, and their prices are very reasonable.

    I second this.

  14. UPDATE.

I sent a copy of this post to SMEG Head Office in Italy. I got a phone call this morning. There was a new cooker just leaving Bangkok and it would be in my kitchen before the end of day !!

    The power of advertising !!

Can you please give me contact details. I have the same sort of problem.

I bought a B47,000-00 microwave. Worked OK but after one year inner glass door shattered. They came, they fixed, they charged (B6000-00) and they blamed installation.

Well 1 hour ago with their repositioned microwave I am heating some chocolate and BANG there she goes ago.

Call agents, advice "Microwave is under warranty but that does NOT include the inner glass" TIT mak mak.

Tried SMEG's websites found on Google and all appear Kaput.

    Help

I eventually found the Smeg Italy website and email and put my problem to them.

Lo and behold 2 days ago the Thai agent calls. "We will replace your microwave glass free of charge".

This was done today and I have emailed my thanks to Smeg HQ. I was impressed that their initial reply was by return email and obviously they followed up very quickly. There IS value then in buying premium goods from companies that back their products.

    Well done Smeg

Panitan: Govt had nothing to do with Seh Daeng attack. 4 minutes ago via TweetDeck

In a few hours we will have the official reports from the hospital doctors, confirming that Seh Daeng shot himself. By tomorrow we'll even have a Photoshopped picture of him pointing the gun at his head.

Well he, in effect, did didn't he. Confronting both sides, displaying, if not seen using, arms, a loose cannon quite expertly it seems murdered by someone.
