Laos is open for entries now. You could get a single entry non-o visa in Vientiane or Savannakhet where you can also get a multiple entry non-o visa.

Hi, is this also the same process for obtaining a non o parent of a Thai child in Savannakhet? Eg, same requirements apart from just needing the birth certificate as apposed to the marriage cert? (no seasoned funds)

Also does the birth need to be legitimised with docs or will the birth cert suffice?

    Thank you.

Are you sure you looked at the correct non-o visa.  For a non-o visa you only need the equivalent of 20k baht when you apply at the embassy in London.

Look here on the e visa site: https://thaievisa.go.th/non-immigrant-o

Hi, this is a screen capture from the Thai evisa site applying through UK for a non o single entry visa for being the parent of a Thai child. The option that was selected was the non o for visiting family ect.

What I don't understand is why they are asking for the equivalent of 400k at this stage as apposed to when I apply for the extension in country after the initial 90 days?

If you select the best visiting family less than 60 days it comes up as a TV. And it sti has the 100k insurance requirements for covid which I'm assuming still hasn't been updated.

    Any ideas on the £10k?

  3. I'm not sure about the 5 or 7 day rule, I believe it's still 7 days as I haven't heard of 5 days for Phuket.

On the other hand Royal Vacations (which I'm planning to use around the same time) does also include the required insurance, PCR tests and a one way airport transfer in the price so it would work out cheaper than doing it all separately plus they do the leg work and while it's easy to do, why not chose them if it's cheaper at the same time.

If you check out a YouTuber called chocolate man in Thailand he used them about a month ago so check out his previous vids.

Prayut just announced no quarantine required from Nov 1st.

As usual, no clarity or details - not sure if this is just for dual vaxxed arrivals or if CoE application is still required (I’d assume such).

Yes agreed, there is never any clarity, actually in most things in LOS. Just got to roll with what you've got at the time you need to use it and assume if you wait a other week it will be different.

Been away from my family for too long now so for me it's go time.

If you are not near a test facility you can book and collect the test kit from a nearby ‘location’ (i.e. customer service centre at xx shopping centre etc), self administer the test, and drop off at a specified ‘drop off location’

OR, for £43 you can have the test kid mailed to you, self administer the test and then can drop it off at a ‘drop off centre’ (within a reasonable distance).

OR... you can get to the airport 3 hours before you want to check in and can get a PCR test there.

PCR testing before departure from Thailand is not needed for all countries (I.e the UK)

Arrival PCR (day 2) costs £35

    Pre-departure (<72 hrs) PCR also costs £35.

Insurance- we (family) have it anyway.

Hi, could you tell me where you get the pre departure PCR test in the UK for £35 please

The supply authority don't like having their kit blown up so there's already a fair amount of protection in place, the HV poles have an earthed bleed wire right at the top and if your poles are LV only the neutral is the top wire, it's uninsulated and earthed every 3rd pole or so. There are also spark-gaps at strategic points to limit the voltage that gets into the system.

The trouble is that lightning is fickle stuff and doesn't really follow the rules, it might decide that it doesn't like the highest point and hit the 2nd or 3rd wire - Bang!

Also, even if you open your main breaker when the flash-and-bang starts the contact gap is only about 5mm, a direct hit has come through 20,000 feet of air, ya think another 5mm is going to get in its way?

Unplugging sensitive kit when not in use certainly won't do any harm but no warranty is implied or inferred.

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated.

    Ouch.

How much damage in the house?

This is the kind of strike that worries me most, no amount of surge supression is going to save your technology ????

Might be a stupid question and I know you've mentioned about no surge protection can handle this but I was just wondering if there is  any way to protect the whole house from this kind of attack? Is there a way to install a lightning rod on the meter poll or some kind of breaker device between the meter and the house? Sorry don't know much about electrics but I'm just thinking ahead for future reference.

    Hi Tomaz,

    Appreciate your detailed response!

I probably get a cheap prepaid from DTAC and True first to see if their coverage works better at my place. I do have a corner unit so several rooms face different directions, however, the signal is consistently low in all rooms.

I have used the voice over Wifi functionality, however, it does not actually 'switch off' my mobile phone signal. Whenever I am connected to the voWIFI, it still shows the one signal bar, making me think that the battery still drains as much as before. You mention that voWIFI takes precedence over the mobile phone signal, is that your own observation or is this written somewhere? I haven't found anything on this topic.

With regards to voice over WiFi. The best thing to do is turn on airplane mode then turn back on WiFi (as far as I know you can do this on every smart phone) so it's on airplane and WiFi then it will always route through WiFi. Only thing is just remember to turn off airplane mode when you leave. It works flawlessly as I have been doing the same for some time now.

I previously used it without turning on airplane mode and WiFi and it was terrible as I only had 1 or 2 bars at best and it would just keep flicking between WiFi calling and network and most of the time I wouldn't get anything because it couldn't make up its mind what it wanted to do.

  10. Try this little gizmo out. I use one at present and it's been very useful. I know it won't help with the life of your battery but it does however give you some pretty good live data straight to your phone without needing to constantly check with a meter. Cranking voltage , battery state charging voltage at idle and high rpm. It also allows you to set an alarm when the battery gets below a certain level so you can start it before it goes flat, evenif it's just to get to a garage.

You and/or the embassy website are wrong.

There is not fixed amount other than 20k baht that is the standard amount needed to apply for any visa.

Under this heading around half way down on this page of the embassy website.

    https://london.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/84508-non-immigrant-visas?page=5d6636cd15e39c3bd00072dd&menu=5f4b6eb3f6ae4b236972c562

"Non-Immigrant Type O (Visiting or staying with applicant's family resided in Thailand (more than 60 days) - single entry only)"

"Financial evidence e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, proof of sponsorship from a third party"

Thank you for your time in responding. I must have been looking at the non Thai child getting an extension. That clears up the financial requirements also.

Out of interest which visa or extension was the £1500 for 3 months needed for financial proof for? Or does it not apply to any and I was reading an incorrect post again, thanks.

  12. I thought the child had to be under 20 from what I've read on the embassy website but maybe I'm wrong.

Also could someone please clear up what the financial requirements are to apply for the initial 90 day of being a parent of a Thai child, applying from UK. I've searched on Thai visa, Google, the embassy website and still it only says proof of income or bank statements but not how much! I'm aware that you need baht 400k for the extension but this is the initial 90 day. Why wouldn't they tell you how much. I read somewhere and I can't for the life of me remember where it was that you needed to show £1500 (up from £1400 previously) for the past three months in your account but maybe that was for another visa type. I'm applying from UK and hoping to get back to my son before Christmas.

    Thanks for all replies.

@dontpanic Hi appreciate the help...I have a bunch more questions as to how this works.

So you order the simcard, place it in your phone and activate how?....by dialing a code?

It should already be active. Mine was and had the correct package. Plus mine also came with some free AIS public wifi for the first month also.

So assuming this takes care of the first month...I take it at the end of the month, you must load this simcard with baht and dial the same code again???....and continue doing so at the end of each month?

Yes you just have to load the applicable monthly amount on the account, either from your online bank or top up and it will take it off the balance on the specified date. Normally they will tell you what date you need to start the service by. I worked this out to be the fact that you get the first month included ad it started automatically from that date whether you used it or not.

    Quote

Does it stipulate that you will be able to this for 11 more months after activation

or do you just hope it does?

How did you register the simcard? Can you just buy this simcard at a AIS outlet.

Mine stated 12 months for this package. I've never seen them in an ais outlet. As I said before the the best thing to do when the term is up is just buy another card from Lazada which is what I will be doing.

I'm coming up to the end of my 1yr package....using my existing sim and number, I was able to dial a code that gave me 12months of 4Mbps, 20gb/mth for 2500 baht total, paid up front.....the 20gb/mth was more than enough for me. I read about the package on this forum last Oct/Nov. The reason I liked it is I got to keep my existing sim/number...and it refreshed on its own every month.

This deal I don't know anything about, sorry. But you will get a new card and number so having 2 card slots would be useful and just use the new one for data. I use quite a lot of data so I use this for Internet and my Dtac which I've had for years I use for people getting hold of me on the odd occasions someone actually uses a phone number rather than line or messenger.

    Quote

I also have read about a simcard on this forum 10Mbps 100gb, good for a yrs usage from activation for around 1700 baht which would be ideal for me, but again its a different sim/number which I would rather not have....but if I must....

I do have a 2 sim slots in my phone but both are being used.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks.

Again I have not seen this deal either. Best thing to do is work out if you need unlimited data @10mbps. If not just choose one of the other deals you mentioned.

@dontpanic What exactly is that....what are you buying for 389Baht ? (a SIM?). Can you do this deal for more than a month....10Mbps for 300Baht for 30 days is what I can make out.

    Thanks in advance.

    https://s.lazada.co.th/s.cCSvv

This is the actual one I purchased last year. What ever you pay for the item on lazada that includes the first month then it's either 200 or 300 per month depending on which deal you can find on there. It had unlimited data with a speed of 10mbps and tetherable. I paid originally 279 for the card plus about 79 for delivery and then 200 per month since then. My one lasted for 12 months then you just simply repeat the process which I will be doing in the next couple of months. Best thing to do is go to the search bar in lazada and put something like "10mbps" and they should all come up. Most of the carriers have this special deal but lazada is the only place I've ever seen them.

    Hope this helps.

As far as I know, the only location within the region that provides a multiple entry Non O to visit your Thai child is Penang. Savannakhet and HCMC will not provide one. One person who lives in Myanmar was able to get one in Yangon, but I doubt they would provide a multiple to a non Myanmar resident.

Ok thanks Tim for the info. I'm assuming they will need financial proof in Penang for the ME non o for a Thai child? If so would it be up to the 200k.

    Thanks.

single entry Non O to visit your Thai child is available at most embassies/consulates. However, some require financial proof (anything from 20,000 baht to 200,000 baht). I am unsure if HCMC requires any financial proof for this category of Non O.

Ah ok thanks for the reply. I had thought that hcmc was the same for no financial proof but maybe I was wrong.
