  1. So what would happen in this situation.

You have all your finance dealings in Dubai and your taxes have been assessed and deemed to be 0% (still possible to get 0% even with the new corporate tax) because they have been assessed and deemed 0% would this then mean that there would be no tax to pay in Thailand? I had a look at the dta with Thailand and UAE, pages and pages of headaches but I did find a few bits of info that would suggest that if you have your business interests there (all your financial dealings) then that would go towards UAE having priority over Thailand. Also you need to be in country for 90 days within a calendar year and this gives you tax residency there. If you where to live the remainder of the year in Thailand you would obviously be classed as tax resident in Thailand also. But because all your finances are in Dubai this would give Dubai the right over any taxes? Which have been deemed 0% and "assessed"

I'm sure people who have been used to 0% from UAE from which they get their money, dividends, interest savings etc from would not be willing to go to the strongest tax bracket in Thai tax because of this half sentence change in the tax law.

This is such bs, I've just confused myself with that I've written ffs! Anyway I hope someone gets what I trying to say 😤

Can you get a retirement visa there, without funds in a Thai bank too? If so what do you need to provide to Laos consulate, please?

The retirement one I'm not sure about as I would go for the dependant, sorry. I know not related but I have later found out that you can't get an annual dependant from Savannakhet only marriage but can still get the single dependant which still gives about 5 months with extension.

If I might ask, why did you decided to buy this brand and model?

I also have to buy something similar. Until now I didn't research any options.

For me the uncovered version which you have would work. In my case they are hidden.

    Thanks

I'm also looking and found these, they're a bit spendy but give 100% blackout of that's something you need as they have a cassette all around the window frame which also covers all the gubbins

Thank you for your reply I was looking for the yearly nono but it does not seem to mention this .

They do offer an annual non o dependant at Savannakhet (same as marriage) for 5000 baht as apposed to the 2000 stated on the website, they just don't mention it there. Been a few trip reports of successfully obtaining an annual obviously with the stipulation of doing an exit and re entry every 90 days to activate the next 90 day visit. I believe if the figures are correct you can get 17 months out of that one if you leave right before it ends and then tag on the 60 day extension at an Imm office in Thailand afterwards.

Don't expect anything soon from London RTE. I've pointed out several inaccuracies on their website in the past and have been told to mind my own business ????.  Last time I looked they were well behind on Covid restrictions.  The problems with them really start when they did their heels in over either a regulation that's changed or where the information on their website is just plain wrong.

I can't remember the details now or even the name of the guy at Hull but he had exactly the same problems with them and he was Honorary Consul. He told me that with a particular anomally, he could only speak to one person at London about it and get the particular application approved - all of the others refused.

The biggest problem for us is that we are slowly running out of alternative offices to use.  When they go over to E-Visa they will only accept applications from their own citizens or people with legal residence. No idea how long I'll be able to use HCMC.

I know it's ridiculous. I'll be honest I'm out after this next trip I'm on a  one way ticket, last one out turn the lights off! I'm sick of the bs in the UK and I'm lucky enough to be able to make the move permanently.

The way I look at it is I will travel the path of least resistance. Its crazy they will have those mistakes on the site and yet you can upload a written note saying N/A and its accepted!

I will be obtaining a parent non o from Savannakhet after the 45+30+60 is done. I'll be up in Isaan so a trip every 3 months out is good for me plus it's pretty easy to do that run and I know it's up and running as someone has already done a trip report. If that avenue ever gets closed off then I'll just get an annual in country.

Problem is there's so much bs surrounding visa's and extensions and the reality is if you've got some good info it's a piece of pi$$.

The one potential issue you may face is your airline wanting to see a flight out of Thailand during the 1st 45 days of your stay.

This can easily be got around by "Renting" an exit ticket (IIRC costs $14) but just something to be aware of before travelling.

If you do get stuck at the airport then some airlines have a waiver form saying you will pay all costs in exiting Thailand should you be denied entry for any reason but a mate of mine was forced to buy a ticket there & then (Birmingham UK Airport) before they'd let him check-in.

Yeah thanks I'll definitely be grabbing a rent-a-flight, for the sake of a tenner it's not worth the hassle. Some say you need it, some say you don't but my point of view is you don't need it until you do ???? been away far too long for a cock up at this stage.

I've just had a look at the RTE London's website and under Non O to visit family (which includes your wife), there is no figure mentioned.

The £10,000 you mention is for a Non O based on retirement.

It matters not that you are over 50, the correct visa for you is the family one.

Yes I did the same but I made a dummy app and that Q10 still shows up even for a non o wife/child which is where the confusion comes in. Can't believe they've not fixed it yet but TIT I suppose!

    Hi all, A little advice.

I used to go to Hull consulate for my married "o" visa for a month or two to visit my wife's family in Sakhon, a simple job.

However now I see that when I apply online for the same visa "o" Non-resident I am asked for 10,000 pounds in the bank?

Anyone have any advice on this, am I applying for the correct visa, has it changed.

We're intending to stay with the family for some 4 months, would the O visa be the correct one to apply for.

    Cheers for any help

Hi Noris, this came up a while back and I believe what others have done due to the mistake on the evisa website is uploaded the bank statement showing 20k baht for Q4 and scan a written note saying not applicable for Q10 as UJ suggested this is a mistake on the site but you can't not upload something for Q10 or the app will not go thru and the £10k is not needed for that application. Only 20k baht is.

The other option as others have stated is go visa exempt 45+30 days then extend to see wife or child for 60 which would give you the required 4 months plus a bit.

These are my 2 options when I return next month and to be honest I will probably go with the second as its a lot less hassle plus you would have to extend the original non o 90 to get over your 4 months anyway.

Good luck, maybe you could report back as to which option you went for in the end.

Laos is open for entries now. You could get a single entry non-o visa in Vientiane or Savannakhet where you can also get a multiple entry non-o visa.

Hi, is this also the same process for obtaining a non o parent of a Thai child in Savannakhet? Eg, same requirements apart from just needing the birth certificate as apposed to the marriage cert? (no seasoned funds)

Also does the birth need to be legitimised with docs or will the birth cert suffice?

    Thank you.

Are you sure you looked at the correct non-o visa.  For a non-o visa you only need the equivalent of 20k baht when you apply at the embassy in London.

Look here on the e visa site: https://thaievisa.go.th/non-immigrant-o

Hi, this is a screen capture from the Thai evisa site applying through UK for a non o single entry visa for being the parent of a Thai child. The option that was selected was the non o for visiting family ect.

What I don't understand is why they are asking for the equivalent of 400k at this stage as apposed to when I apply for the extension in country after the initial 90 days?

If you select the best visiting family less than 60 days it comes up as a TV. And it sti has the 100k insurance requirements for covid which I'm assuming still hasn't been updated.

    Any ideas on the £10k?

  11. I'm not sure about the 5 or 7 day rule, I believe it's still 7 days as I haven't heard of 5 days for Phuket.

On the other hand Royal Vacations (which I'm planning to use around the same time) does also include the required insurance, PCR tests and a one way airport transfer in the price so it would work out cheaper than doing it all separately plus they do the leg work and while it's easy to do, why not chose them if it's cheaper at the same time.

If you check out a YouTuber called chocolate man in Thailand he used them about a month ago so check out his previous vids.

Prayut just announced no quarantine required from Nov 1st.

As usual, no clarity or details - not sure if this is just for dual vaxxed arrivals or if CoE application is still required (I’d assume such).

Yes agreed, there is never any clarity, actually in most things in LOS. Just got to roll with what you've got at the time you need to use it and assume if you wait a other week it will be different.

Been away from my family for too long now so for me it's go time.

    https://covid.randox.com/pre-departure/

If you are not near a test facility you can book and collect the test kit from a nearby ‘location’ (i.e. customer service centre at xx shopping centre etc), self administer the test, and drop off at a specified ‘drop off location’

OR, for £43 you can have the test kid mailed to you, self administer the test and then can drop it off at a ‘drop off centre’ (within a reasonable distance).

OR... you can get to the airport 3 hours before you want to check in and can get a PCR test there.

PCR testing before departure from Thailand is not needed for all countries (I.e the UK)

Arrival PCR (day 2) costs £35

    Pre-departure (<72 hrs) PCR also costs £35.

Insurance- we (family) have it anyway.

Hi, could you tell me where you get the pre departure PCR test in the UK for £35 please

The supply authority don't like having their kit blown up so there's already a fair amount of protection in place, the HV poles have an earthed bleed wire right at the top and if your poles are LV only the neutral is the top wire, it's uninsulated and earthed every 3rd pole or so. There are also spark-gaps at strategic points to limit the voltage that gets into the system.

The trouble is that lightning is fickle stuff and doesn't really follow the rules, it might decide that it doesn't like the highest point and hit the 2nd or 3rd wire - Bang!

Also, even if you open your main breaker when the flash-and-bang starts the contact gap is only about 5mm, a direct hit has come through 20,000 feet of air, ya think another 5mm is going to get in its way?

Unplugging sensitive kit when not in use certainly won't do any harm but no warranty is implied or inferred.

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated.

    Ouch.

How much damage in the house?

This is the kind of strike that worries me most, no amount of surge supression is going to save your technology ????

Might be a stupid question and I know you've mentioned about no surge protection can handle this but I was just wondering if there is  any way to protect the whole house from this kind of attack? Is there a way to install a lightning rod on the meter poll or some kind of breaker device between the meter and the house? Sorry don't know much about electrics but I'm just thinking ahead for future reference.
