You cannot compare Phuket to Jomtien or any other office.

Jomtien has been accepting income letters from a embassy without a problem for extension applications. The desk for visas you dealt with is notorious for making up their own rules to push you in the direction of using an agent.

Sorry Joe, gotta disagree on Jomtien accepting income stat dec letters for ext of stay, attempted to renew my ext of stay early last month with only the embassy letter, young lady said cannot do now with only letter you must show evidence of money in a bank.

Your intention of getting an affidavit from US Embassy is a waste of time, because as of January 2019 Immigration will not accept it as proof of income. I have been to Immigration recently and they told me the only thing they will accept is a proof of income in a Thai Bank Account.

I am married to a Thai and I need to show at least 40,000 bht a month. I just renewed my Visa for one year and all I showed was three months of deposits in my Thai Account. The US affidavit that I just got I included it with my paper work. They pulled it out and gave it back to me. They said they don't need. I wasted 50.00 that I paid for that Notary. Don't waste your time. They don't want to see your social security or your pension paper work, just copies of your Thai Bank Account deposits. I gave three months but all they wanted was a copy of the front page of the bank book and the last page of deposits. They figure the rest. Hope this helps. Expect a visit to your address

where you are staying, as they did that to me. Hope this helps.

Gotta agree with laidback, renewed my ext of stay at Jomtien immi last month, arrived with stat dec from Oz embassy, young lady said not enough need to show funds in bank account, she said don't waste money next year, we'll only accept money in Thai bank account.

I didn't need this letter from the OZ embassy. I did mine last year in Nonthaburi. As far as I know, Australia and South Korea are the two countries that don't do this letter. Initially, they tried to ask for the letter, but she was corrected by another officer. There should be a DFAT stamp in your passport. They use this to confirm it is not fake. I would double check with the embassy before making a trip there for it.

Problem was that I got my new pp in Melbourne not here in Los, there probably not aware of any such requirements for o/s immi offices.

I went home to Europe last May and while there got a new passport. Because my old one was still valid for another 7 months I continued to use it for my return to Thailand..and thereafter (to avoid the hassle of producing the new one). However the time came this month to start using my new PP. Upon enquiry I was told in Soi 5 that I would have to have my new PP "confirmed" by my Embassy and bring the confirmation letter back to Soi 5 before they would transfer the necessary stamps (I was applying for my yearly extension)....All of which I did.

The bit the bugged me the most was that my Embassy charged me 4000Bt. for the privilege of "confirming the PP that they had sold me in the first place".

Get this...my government sold me my passport and then made me pay 4000 Bt. to confirm that it wasn't a copy (dud). The way some people talk on here you would think this stuff doesn't happen outside this country.

Had same problem couple of years ago after getting my new pp in Oz, went to Jomtiem immi to renew my ext of stay, young lady ask for letter confirm is not fake pp, she tell me go Oz embassy get letter, this was on a Friday arvo, I said my current ext of stay expire tomorrow, she just smiled, said no problem,go your embassy Monday, bring letter Monday and I do ext for you no problems.

Well, I was hoping to use the UK Embassy letter for my next extension but it looks as though this will not work because of the unfortunate fall of the dates.

My next extension is not due until 22 July so i would, normally, apply 30 days earlier, on 22 June.  I can get an Embassy letter by applying by 12 December but what the issue date would be is uncertain.  As the Embassy say that they will provide the letter 'within 10 working days' it is entirely possible that the issue date would be before 22 December.  I asked the Embassy if they could post-date the letter but they will not.  What you get is what you get!

You can see the potential problem here.  Jomptien Immigration will allow extensions to be done 30 days early and I had heard that 45 days was allowable under some circumstances.  However, when I asked about this today - I was there for a 90-day report - the lady assistant on the retirement desk - admittedly, not the actual IO -was quite adamant that 30 days was the maximum allowable.  This means that the Embassy letter would likely have exceeded its 6-month life span by the time that I applied.  Bummer!!

Looks like the 800k in the bank route is the only viable option - unless Thai Immigration alters its stance on what is acceptable proof of income.  I can provide bank statements going back 14 years - both UK and Thai banks - but, as we know, at present these mean nothing without the Embassy letter.

We really need some decision by TI as soon as possible - always assuming that they are willing to change anything.  I really would prefer to leave my 800k invested where it currently is, rather than deposit it in a Thai bank.  If I have to do this, I will, but it can't be done overnight - takes time to liquidate investments.  I have time enough right now but I shall have to decide what to do by the end of the year.

Anyone asked the same, or similar question at Jomptien?

Think you'll find the embassy letter won't be worth the paper it's written on next year, io advised me last week, no need spend money on embassy letter, next year just show 800k in Thai Bank account, that's my 2bobs worth.

  6. Renewed my extension to stay at jomtien last week, rocked up with all the forms filled out and signed, io looked at my Stat Dec, umm, she ask, you use Stat Dec last year, yes, last 2 years my reply, I go see my supervisor, stat dec not enough now, must show 800k in bank, she tell me next year no more stat Dec, must show 800k in bank, guess its more confusion about what's required

The agents are already under scrutiny with some being arrested and charged in Bangkok.

Don't jump off the ship just yet because this does not involve the Australian Embassy as the procedure there is different to the UK and the USA.

Visited Oz embassy 2 days ago for my Stat Dec, lady said there's been no correspondence about their procedures regarding the Stat Dec, she just told me if and when it happens it'll be posted onto their web site.

If are going to be staying in a hotel or similar in Pattaya they should do the report of your arrival.

If you were to show Chiang Mai immigration proof you were not in Chiang Mai on the date you could of done the TM30 they would not be able to fine you for not doing the report.

Joe, can you not do the report at a police station on arrival back in the kingdom if the immigration offices are closed?

Bht 600 is 150 units a month at 4 Bht per unit. That's 5, yes 5 units a day. If you have an a/c on 8 hours every night cycling at say 500 watts average, that's 4 of your units. A floor fan takes 50 watts, fridge about the same, electric showers are 3kW, I think your meter is broken....ask for a new one !

Think your only pulling numbers outa your ass, you don't know any of the characteristics of the room, or the size of the unit, or any water heater usage, or any fridge details, you just like to write stuff for the hell of it.

  10. About 600 bht a month after reducing my power usage from 1600 bht a month after throwing out 2 yo Panasonic Fridge and replacing with a electrolux fridge, with bedroom aircon going about 8 hrs every night, only a fan during the day, cnr condo 5th flr facing sth, sthwest, hot water system bathroom and kitchen, pretty darn good I reckon.

Easy to start a new topic. Just click this button at the top of page one of this forum or others. image.png.0ad770bab2492ff8f7b82a0813ecf2dc.png

I assume you wanted a TM30 form. There are mixed reports for Jomtien about wanting one every time you enter the country. It seems you got the same answer that others have gotten that are on extensions of stay.

Yes correct Joe, was a TM30 I asked for, well I can just wait and hope for the best.

  12. A little off topic again, I'm not sure how to start a topic here on Thai visa, went to jomtien immi for a re-entry permit yesterday, all good in and out in about 10 minutes, on way out asked lady at front desk for notification of address form, she said no longer required cause I'm staying in Thailand on a 1 year ext of permission to stay, Ubonjoe you are the encyclopedia of these types of matters here in Los, does this sound right to you. Thx

  13. Forget the road rules and the way you ride in your home country, riding here in LOS completely different, always expect the unexpected here, which I find is the most dangerous part of riding bikes here, always use a good quality bash hat if you value your head, definitely saved my life many years ago when this jumbuk run out in front of me in Oz, as I went head first into the really coarse bitumen road.
