  1. i was there yesterday getting a different visa. stayed at a place called fundee, 500  night. decent enough. I would suggest getting off international bus at laos side and not going bus station, just go consulate for 100 baht but up to you. same going back, 100 baht straight to crossing and catch first bus going across to take to you to muk. I had one visa exempt earlier in the year and the thai immo officer when i exited pointed this out to me and wrote 1 next to it and circled it, I told her I was going consulate for non imm and she said ok good. worth bearing in mind, you will deffo only get 2 land border visa exempts per year for the time being. can't see any reason why any other tourist visa from any consulate wouldn't be fine. enjoy savannakhet. sure is a fun place!!

  2. Hi Ubon Joe, would it not be quicker for me and pretty cheap just to go straight from my hotel to the border crossing on the 20 baht bus and get a tuk tuk straight the the consulate as it seems pretty close to the border and the bus would take me into savannakhet bus station? also heard that the bus is pretty horrible too. Do you have any idea how much the visa is in USD nowadays too? Cheers

  3. Hi

I will stay a night in mukdahan. I've googled but cannot find an answer that's current. Does anyone know what time the first bus crosses the bridge from mukdahan to skt to get to the thai consulate in good time?

Any tips on fastest and most cost effective way to get there on time would be appreciated bearing in mind I will have spend a bit of time doing laos visa

Also getting back to bkk there is a nok air MUK to BKK fly/drive leaving Muk at 4pm. Would be nice to catch this but again has anyone picked up visa here recently and knows if I could realistically make that bus at 4pm. my own research suggests there should be time as it's not crazy queues like vientianne to pick up visa??

thanks for any help or suggestions in advance

  4. if you are thinking of studying why not enrol on a course for a year in bkk if you have enough money and get an education visa to do so. study for a year, check the place out and go from there. depending on what you do, there's also good work options in bkk. not everyone is an English teacher or retired as some seem to think.  good luck whatever you decide

  5. 'this means even if i enter on 2 months tourist visa with return ticket and 20.000 THB in cash i still need copy of my bank statements?'

don't worry OP. you're coming on tourist visa. just tell them you're going island hopping and home in a few months and walk through no worries. then go and sort out your next visa once here. you don't need to show any further finance to come on holiday

agreed; that might elicit more questions; is it a company ?where is the company registered ? possible work permit required...

a work permit is definitely required regardless of where the company is registered. however at this point in time the labour ministry turn a blind eye to those that are making their money outside of Thailand and spending it here. you must not have a permanent office in Thailand. you must not be making any money from within Thailand. you would be classed as a remote worker and will be absolutely fine (unless) you piss someone off that is.

Thanks everybody for take time for reply me. @BritTim this means even if i enter on 2 months tourist visa with return ticket and 20.000 THB in cash i still need copy of my bank statements? it doesnt show salary , it only shows deposit (because i am depositing money that i make on my regular account) and i have money on savings account. Before when i went to make ED visa to Laos my Thai ex gf was with me and they didnt complicate at all. I m working online (nothing illegal) before i was doing this for 1 year in Thailand i had steady income , but the problem was that i took everything too easy about Thai law, i had problems with ex gf so i became depressed and start drinking too much i didnt care about school anymore, before i was regular and good student. And this was my first trip to Thailand i learned many things and now i will definetely not repeat same mistakes.

love your open and honest attitude, as others have said. no problem working online but perhaps don't be so open and honest about that with anyone especially the thai authorities! tell them your parents send you monthly allowance to study or something. at the end of the day you paid your price the last time and they made good money out of you and will be happy to do so again

Yes.  I did this a few months ago with a long form marriage certificate.

But be aware that the copies must be original size and on one sheet of paper only.

I went there with the marriage cert copied onto two A4 sheets (half on each sheet).  My thinking being that I had the original certificate with me so they could easily see that the copy was true.

They would not accept that and it took quite a bit of running around in Savannakhet to get copies in their required form.

cheers in the jungle, you may have saved me some time there as I've always done it in parts as use home printer. will take to copy shop in bkk first ; )

@Happy enoughSo this is through an agency? Is it not possible do it on my own (since it'd be cheaper)? Just asking cos 2,300 THB is pretty steep. :P

if you drive you could go yourself but as far as I know it's the cheapest and quickest as got mates that need to do it fairly regular. you could check local buses but this one is designed to get you there and back as quick as poss. bearing in mind it pays the bus and the Cambodian visa I think it's pretty reasonable. if you do use them and when you get there and don't want to sit in the back squashed up tell the driver the agent guy said you can sit in the front as you pay more for the visa than the Filipinos. works everytime

  10. depends where you are I guess. if you're in bkk think the quickest is van from on nut to laem chabang. leaves 5am from the Tesco car park next to on nut bts. just turn up and see a load of filpinos and the odd westerner and wait there. back around 3.30 in afternoon. thinks its 2,300 baht or something all in including visa for camodia. google thai visa run. if it's on free entry stamp they only allow 2 in a year now apparently

  11. Hi there,

Just a quick one in case there may be issues.

Can I use my original marriage certificate from the UK for non imm multi o at savannaket.

Never had any problems at vientienne in the past but got a few strange looks.

It's a long old style certificate from 16 odd years ago (pain in the arse to photocopy too)

It was also fine at the London consulate last year

I would have thought it would be fine but don't fancy the journey all the way up there to be told 'no can do'

    Thanks

  12. HI Guys, thanks for the info. I have all the required docs and suspected that it may take a bit longer than VTE. Brit Tim, is it pretty straight forward getting bus from Mukdahan to Savannakhet. Does it need booking or can I just find it easily once I arrive? Also, do the buses o from Mo Chit and any idea what kind of times and if they need booking, haven't taken a coach in Thailand for donkeys years!

  13. Hi All, Any advise appreciated. I need to get a new non imm O and want to get the multiple which i believe I can still get at Savannakhet. Its due in a few weeks. I have done non imm o at vientienne when they could still do multis and many singles depending how long I needed to stay. I have had to get my original marriage certificate sent from UK as saw that someone was refused on just a copy but that will be here on time. (never had a problem only using copies before at vientienne) anyway, as the rules are constantly changing as well as flight times etc I was hoping someone could confirm I can still do the multi at Savannakhet and what is the quickest and most cost effective way in and out. I have heard of paying extra for same day. is this true? also heard if application is in before 11am can get same day? Have my doubts obviously but worth asking. I was thinking to fly the mukdahan on the earliest flight possible, can I get to the consulate to submit on time in the same way you could from bkk to udon and then vientienne? direct flights seem a bit extortionate as they are to vte and the times don't seem to work for the consulate at all. what then would be the best option to get back to bkk as quick as poss. thinking a night over stay is unavoidable but could I get back to mukdahan next day on time to fly back to bkk next day bearing in mind pick of visa. nothing against laos or vientienne and never even been to savannakhet as far as I can remember but like many i'm sure I just want to get my visa and back to normality(ish) as quick and as cost effectively as possible. and yes I am a bit of a cheap Charlie, hence why I don't have the cash to extend at bkk immo ; ) not keen on buses at all but if it meant less tiem in laos I would even use an overnight bus if it meant I could submit docks on time mean one less night in laos. hope this makes some kind of sense. ta
