My wife recently sent an important document to her sister in USA by EMS, according to the tracking data it was "with the airline' for 3 weeks and took just over a month in total. Yesterday I got a "know your customer" form to fill out from my bank in Australia (to verify my ID or else) that was posted 30th May, and had to be completed by 7 July. Luckily I've already done it online.

I also has to do the " verification of ID" for my Oz bank (which they more or less froze until my ID was confirmed)...BUT it required a notorised copy of my passport done by the Oz  Consulate in  Bkk.

Only option was to send it and their form back by EMS.

I think they got it in a week or so.

Don't know how you did this "online"??

What is the deal ?     Who is paying Whom for What ?

Is Thaksin in HK ?   I don't believe it a bit as  HK public recognized him and put news about him immediately.   ( HK is so small,  most difficult hiding )

    Just nonsense after all.

People here (I'm in HK at the moment ) might have recognized  him 17yrs ago, but not so sure now.

And most folks here not really interested in Thai politics.

But I think that I could hunker down in the Peninsula hotel for a few days!!.

    Cats are amazing animals:

Some can survive a fall from the 32nd stories with only minor injuries.

Unlike dogs, humans didn't domesticate cats. They domesticated us.

Some researchers say that our advanced civilization wouldn't be possible without cats. Early human civilizations relied much on the grain to eat. Cats protected the grain stores from expansion of rodents, who would otherwise destroy it.

Some other researchers say that the cat's brain work similar to human brain. It forms neuron connections in a very similar way to us. Maybe that's why cats are so attracted to humans.

Cats are born with genetic memory. They know everything about hunting, fighting and hiding from the day they are born. It takes them 1-2 years to coordinate that knowledge with their body, muscles and "tools".

Personally, I think that cats know everything there is to know about Life, Universe and Everything. They don't want to tell us because they regard us as somewhat inferior to real Cats....????????

    All quite true.

My little (now full size) siamese cat was the offspring of a soi cat and I took her home (having bred seal point, chocolate point and blue (or lilac?) Point siamese cats (purebreds with papers....for sale back in my home country  ).

I recall Winston Churchill saying that dogs looked up to you, cats looked down on you and pigs looked you straight in the eye !

PS.  suppose that she stays with us for the bug hiuse , garden and food every day .

  4. Many mentions of Magnesium (which I've been taking for many years ) but note that otc Mg "supplements " come in the form of various Mg compounds/forms..eg. chelate, citrate, glycenate etc.

I understand that they all have different effects and benefits, so it's worth specifying which helps sleep or cramp or constipation etc

I think Mg glycenate (?) Is the best to assist sleeping

    Any other members comments welcome.

How is it constitutional for the Court to order the removal of Pita as a member of the House when it has not ruled on his quilt or innocence to allegations that he is disqualified as PM/MP? It feels Pita is presumed quilty unless he can argue successfully before the Court his innocence beyond a shadow of doubt. This is not a tenet in the rule of law in a democracy.

I don't thi.k that they check his bed or quilt to make a ruling.

    Perhaps his perceived guilt??

    With the greatest respect.

Were you li Inc in Hong Kong during this period?

It was not a "sellout"....their lease had run out, and I don't really think that they had much say in the matter!

Although they tried to bargain for  50 year "good deal" for the local Hongkongers...it was probably never going to happen..

But Hong Kong and Macau (Macao) were always Chinese territories,  but not so Taiwan.

With the greatest respect, it went very smoothly because it was a shabby sellout. Hong Kong's rights under the Basic Law were guaranteed to remain until 2047 at the earliest.

Halfway there, those rights have been utterly shredded, as the British authorities knew all along would happen.

    With the greatest respect.

  8. slightly off topic but where did you get the spinal stenosis surgery done  and what was the cost and long.k term  outcome.?

Where I get medical Treatment in Hong Kong (although LIVING in TH 20+ years......married ) they refuse to do this kind of spinal surgery (too dangerous ) and so only take Pregabalin

At 73, expat health insurance is far too expensive. .

What's the ethnic angle there? They always report the nationality of the foreigners but this time I see a dark skinned person is involved and no mention of it.

I've always heard Thai's and Indians don't get along too well so maybe we're starting to see this play out as they appear in larger numbers as tourists.

If you read it all.....his name is Arabic/Muslim.

    Very common in Singapore

    Not Indian.

  10. It's always been a bit of a mystery to as why every app (including BBL) works every time I go to Hong Kong, where, on arrival I whip out the Thai AIS sim, insert a HK CSL sim and Bingo, I'm up and running.

Can use the CSL data if out on the street....or ANY WIFI which pops up.

Do transfers and pay bills etc via BBL app ~ no different to my being in Thailand .

Only thing that's the same is the actual phone !!!!

Some younger whizz kid out there can enlighten me !

This appears to be 100% correct...in my case.

The "original" tiny branch in this mall, where my account was opened many years ago, I'm sure will not be around in another 10 years(I may not also !!!) ....with a large, well staffed, newish branch just a few hundred metres away.

I can only assume that when that happens,  they will transfer all the records to the "new " branch.

But anyway,  I've been able to do everything I need, like new passbook, letter for Immigration and bank statements without any problems.

Only this new.passport and photo ID thing required me to go to the original branch !!

    To the OP

exactly the same happened to me

new passport plus new phone bought in UK......the perfect storm

note i had to keep using old phone for internet banking until i could go into BB branch it cannot be changed overseas it seems ( i tried card number and PIN route  .....message visit branch

AND yes no large  transfers until HO have finished their "whatever" which takes 5 days

    Just a quick addendum....

Back at original branch, they submitted the new PP details and was told 5 working days before transfers over 50K.

I told the "lady" that this was no good because I HAD to make 3 transfers, each over 100K to landlords by that Friday....or our 15 year lease could /would be terminated !

She then smiled and told me to come back on the Friday and it'll be all fixed.

Which I did and they took the required photos for the face recognition..."you can do the transfers this afternoon"

She also thought to ask me what my daily transfer limit was!

My real beef about this is,  that the BBL app facial recognition is (for me)

difficult to use getting the right picture including smiling showing teeth. So just a stupid grin (no teeth visible) worked.

But all this took over an hour compared to 10 minutes previously.

  13. The Ongoing Saga.................

Appreciate the above comments BUT, as I have mentioned earlier, the BBL branch which I went to ( and who previously issued me with a new bankbook, and provided the mandatory "letter" for extension renewal at Immigration etc) were insistent that I go a few hundred metres down the mall to the original bank branch where I had opened the account years ago!

(why they have two sub-branches a few hundred metres apart on the same level, in the same shopping mall is anybody's guess???).

So it's back tomorrow for the "facial ID" photo.

The BBL App I have on my phone appears not to have any face recognition facility but I'll see what happens tomorrow!

And, to sum things up, I tried to send someone 50K yesterday....but NO ....wouldn't work.

    But B49,999 did !!

Incidentally, I am pretty sure you can raise your mobile/internet transfer limit using the phone app.

I did it years ago (for a Dee Money overseas transfer), but at a branch, which involved the usual 44 pages, signatures and mobile phone number.

I would have known nothing of this New Passport/Fae ID/ 50K+ limit business if it weren't for other members on this Forum posting this advice.

Much appreciated........unlike some members here, BBL gave me NO warning of this new BOT instruction and limitations it imposed.

Does this mean need to allow one week between notifying bank of new passport details and going to immigration to transfer stamps? As they will require bank letter & proof of funds for the transfer.

    I would think so.

In my case, I went to Immigration last week and got stamps "transferred ",  but don't have to do extension until December l.

Btw, bank photocopied  extension stamp on OLD passport and new stamp in NEW passport.

    Can't be TOO careful.

The Bank of Thailand  is making all Thai banks register their customers for facial recognition if they want to transfer over 50,000 baht.

In your situation your new passport and your need to transfer 300k happened to coincide.

    Correct.

I should have just done it on the phone app as normal and left my new passport registration until after.

They think my old passport is still valid until December 2023.

I just wasnt aware of these implications.

It's ridiculous. I've been married for over 32 years, lived in Thailand with her for close to 30 years and still have to wait for weeks while they decide whether I can 'visit' her. And then I have to report myself to immigration every three months as if I'm a criminal on probation.

What, exactly, do they spend a month considering? They have evidence money is in the bank, they have the Kor Ror 2 confirming we are married. What the **** is their problem?

    Agreed .

My thai wife and I lived (me working) in Hong Kong for 20 years, but after only 7 years, got Permanent Residence /ID.

No visits to /from Immigration,  no scrutiny of  money in the bank, or reporting!

Can own property  and.live there forever.....if we wish

pathum has asked to see money for 4 years now. they have also come to visit every year. just had them out the other day.

I guess you're referring to Pathum Thani Imm office.

I've been going to them for many years and they NEVER once enquired about the 400K after the "under consideration " period.

in fact during the covid years, and thereafter, everything is done while customers wait outside under a marquee.

Just hand in the passport to the lady at "reception/triage " on appointed day and wait outside for someone to bring it out with stamp inside !

Exactly the same procedure  for getting stamps transferred to a new PP..

Yes, they always do a home visit in the nice BMW.

I recall the late ubonJoe answering this old chesnutt many times and stating that there is NO written requirement or rule regarding the 400K other than the 2 months seasoning before the renewal application..

You must log into the DFAT or Australian Embassy websites and follow the prompts to get to the online 'replacement passports form'. You just fill this out, and the onine service will automatically check/update your passport details. You can then make an appointment online. You print out the approved form and take it with you. In addition you need your old passport. I paid using an Australian credit card and paid in Australian dollars. Any Thai credit/debit card should be fine.

All correct, but WHY take it in personally ??

Just send in by EMS .

You don't have to send in your old passport, which is still valid until 30 days after new PP approval.

    A no brainer ????

I intend to do same in person at Oz embassy.

Can you please list the docs you provided.

I'm aware of the photo office that embassy staff recommend.

    Also how was payment made.

    Vaguely recall cash not acceptable

Posting in includes a debit authority so that was simple (albeit painful to pay B10,500).

But the last time I attended to get the notorised copy of my PP for the bank I has to use my BBL Debit card.....BUT the ha.d held POS device they use doesn't fit under the glass in the tray where you deposit everything.

So, the lady swiped my card a.d I had to tell her the PIN number to access the account!

Might be different with a credit card?

What do they always tell us?

NEVER disclose your PIN number to anyone (especially wife ????????????)
