Again more pathetic excuses from Thai immigration.

Problem happened because several aircraft landed at the same time, first that is impossible.

Second the same flights land at the airport all the time, so immigration should have officers available.

Always it is somebody else to blame.

The biggest problem Thailand has is passing the blame all the time, never our fault. Bloody pathetic.

If one wanted to discourage tourism, they'd allow something like this to happen, and then happen more frequently going forward. The beatings will continue until attitudes improve. All over the world things are advancing towards their (the so called 'elite')  Agenda 21 goals. These are hardly accidents, imho.

LONG STAY (O-A) : LIVING A RETIREMENT LIFE IN THAILAND OR TRAVEL TO THAILAND FOR

          A LONG STAY

              1. Original and Three copies of passport valid for at least 18 months

              2. Three completed and signed application forms.

              3. Three passport-size photographs (2” x 2” inches)

              4. Proof of money deposit from a bank certifying the amount equal to or no less than US$23,000, OR proof of income statement from a paying organization certifying no less than US$1,900 per month.

              5. Three copies of criminal records in good conduct issued by local police, or state police department, or FBI. The record issued by an private business providing background check service may be accepted if conducted by an FBI-Approved Channeler. Verification must be recent, not more than three months.

              6. Three copies of medical certificate form completed by a doctor in the country of application reporting no prohibitive diseases. The certificate forms must be less than three months.

              7. Three copies of confirmed air ticket and accommodation in Thailand

              8. Visa fee

Now we're back to needing tickets? lol

Have many have approval w/o air reservation before hand? Going through D.C consulate.

Obviously I would buy a different airline ticket if I 'had' the 1 year visa first and a different ticket if I was going on tourist 30 day visa route.

Seems like that is set up more for  road imperfections  and obstructions than accidents. Doesn't make sense to me (worldwide) why automakers haven't had dash cams for a decade or more already for accidents, insurance and litigation.

It depends in what state you are in really. Mine took 48 hours because they also do the same checks for pre-screening people for airline security so the process is well setup.

Thank you.  I thought it could be done quicker.  Also, do I need an onward ticket w/ an non immigrant O-A? I would think not. And on top of the form it asks number of entries. I thought I could just pay more for a multi entry, which (I thought) meant unlimited in and out of the country. Should I write multi there or...?

  5. It takes 2 months for a criminal background check? I had to twist arms a bit to get the  local VA  clinic to fill out my health form; and who knew they never test us for the things on this form. I go to the VA regularly. Finally received the completed form today. First thing they said 'some of it is not in English'. What?? lol

When I went for the tests, a couple of the nurses cornered me and tried pumping me for information about my travel plans. Yeah, like I want to tell you anything.

When I first started coming to Patong years ago, was $ h itfaced one night in a certain Club,am bouncing about dancing and having a great time (was younger and a lot fitter then) Was a Thai lady surrounded by an entourage of girls and she was obviously the head girl and buying them all drinks, next minute Im presented with a drink (JD & Coke or something) long story short,  few hours later I ends up back at her place, was an upmarket hotel/condo joint and she had this really nice place there, BiG Bhat... she obviously had money.

As soon as we got in she's on the  land line phone in the room talking in Thai to someone, then got her kit off and said  we shower then we f **k!

By now my mind is thinking who the F cu k is paying for this gaff? and all the trappings?? I quickly came to the conclusion she was either a gangsters moll or her hubby/BF is a big cheese, I wanted to get off sharpish, before I knew it we was having it away, she was a right Nympho and while poking the fire I am thinking need to get out of here... Just then the door goes and I absolutely SH AT myself!!

Door flies open and this Thai guy in black, with a look of Bruce Lee is stood there in the doorway..., (fur..king E...ll!)

Turns out its room service with some thai food and a FULL ENGLISH LOL!

She said ok Mr I order foo for you, we eat now then can F cu k again  F FS!!!

(luckily she fell asleep while eating) I tippy - toed out with my clothes in hand, quietly closed the door and was off like $ hit off a stick...

I vowed never to go back with any women who are throwing money about, I really $ hit myself and thought I could have ended up in a bad spot (probably over the hills on way to Karon lol) never again - my mates all fell about laughing and still do when the story gets a hearing at my expense but I suppose when you're younger you really do some half ar$ed things

So, you met a nympho w/ money and you ran away? Alcohol is one twisted drug.

I suppose what I'm saying is.....I was left wondering "why did they not give me the chance to say goodbye to them".(they knew they were dying)..." did our friendship mean anything at all"?

I've never died, well except that one time; but I'm pretty sure, if I was, the first thing on my mind wouldn't be the expectations of others or what they consider social norms.

  8. Couple of questions. Is pepper spray readily available there?

And why not try to catch the attack on video?  I realize that is easier said than done. Who thinks of that when rows of teeth are aimed at your lower body. When I moved from a Florida city to the country, in a state I never lived in, my neighbor let his pit bull out after me when I was walking. Of course he tried to act as if the dog got away from him (passive aggressively). I just happened to have my 5 iron with me. Let's just say that won't happen again.

Seems like whenever I come on this forum there is a new way farangs are being set upon.

dogs can tell if you are fearful and become more aggressive.

i have been in Thailand three years and have never had a single problem with soi dogs because I don't do anything aggressive. and they remember you and respond accordingly.

and after feeding the soi dogs on my street some hotdogs they love me now. The Thais are amazed as the dogs run to me with tails wagging. I know this run contrary to expats thinking who hate soi dogs. And if you think the dogs don't know you hate them or fear them, even at a distance, you are wrong.

    Thank you, dog whisperer?

I suspect the IOs are mainly interested in tourist-visa and tourist-visa exempt arrivals (with a history of same), but whether the regulation they're enforcing is specifically limited to them I don't know.  But in any case you don't have to have the cash in Thai baht.  As long as it's equivalent to THB20,000, any currency will supposedly do.  No need to go trying to exchange dollars for baht back in the states.

Thank you. I was going to amend that to include, what if I have 1k in U.S. cash. I also imagine lay over stops have money changing places as well. From some of the vids I've seen. First time for me in Se Asia.

" People trying to enter with history of tourist visa entries appear to be the ones under the most amount of scrutiny. ED visa holders also are also the subject of similar scrutiny."

    Hardly surprising is it?

That is what Type O and B Non Immigrant visas are for.

So, if I have a non immigrant O, then the 20k does not apply? I was going to forgo getting Baht at my stateside bank and just get some when I arrive.

According to local media reports both told police that Mr Hussey accidentally pulled a hook causing him to become detached from his harness. No explanation as to how Mr Hussey was able to ‘accidently’ unfasten his parasailing harness which was under a life vest secured with three clips was provided.

Other Australian reports say Mr Hussey had business interests worth $250 million dollars. Could be incentive enough for some people.

I'm worth a LOT less than that and I wouldn't parasail. Nothing up there I ever wanted to see that I couldn't see from the beach or a boat. I don't get why someone w/ that kind of assets wouldn't have a healthy amount of paranoia.

Finally some truth to my theory of negligence on faulty equipment and not what I previously read, i.e. that the deceased pulled the hook which releases you.

So now what, a 500 baht fine each and 2 day suspension from going up again, more than likely IMO.

RIP to the digger, got to feel for his family, a holiday gone tragically wrong because of the relaxed regulations and laws, again IMO, in the Land of Smiles.

I also suspect that if he had any life insurance, they will be looking for an exit clause due to going up in the chute, hope that's not the case as that would just compound things for his widow and family.

Actually, you can commit suicide after the 2 year contestability period and still get the payout. This is based on U.S. law, so I don't know about his homeland laws.
