By chance, this morning i was reading about a US prison Warden who sexually abused women in prison, including rape. He knew which areas were not watched by video cameras. Apparently while women are a small percent of the inmates, 67% are sexually abused in America. Many don't report it. Not sure if this is the case in Thai prisons but it needs to be investigated.

logic in general and everywhere in the world
Purdey replied to jwest10's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I assume the OP is not a native language speaker, however, i couldn't understand some of what he or she wrote. In Thailand, most rural homes have a few old shoes outside the door. I have never seen people put a pair outside before shopping. If a relative is visiting Bangkok, someone stays behind to ensure the home isn't robbed. -

Russian Soldiers Are Freezing To Death In Eastern Ukraine
Purdey replied to Scott's topic in World News
The Russians were once famous for being hardy. However, their political officers would shoot them on the spot if they failed to attack or run toward the enemy without ammunition. They won through sheers numbers (Stalin had executed the best officers). Let's see if they have the numbers to outlive the Ukrainians, -

My first choice would be to use an HDMI cable to my TV. Saves having to buy a monitor. Windows 10 and 11 will allow you to connect two laptops. Windows 10 Wireless connection On the the device you’re using as a second screen, open Settings Click ‘System, then ‘Projecting this PC’ from the left pane 3. From your main computer, press the Windows Key + P, and click the ‘Connect to a Wireless Display’ link at the bottom. 4. Make sure you have your Wi-Fi turned on for this to work 5. From the options that appear, choose ‘Extend’ 6. Click ‘Connect to a wireless display’, then choose the name of your other laptop when it appears Windows 11 Wireless connection On the device you’re using as a second screen, open Settings and select ‘Apps’ from the left pane Click ‘Optional features’ Click the blue ‘View features’ button In the search bar, type ‘display’ and tick the box next to ‘Wireless Display’ and click ‘Next’ Look for "Wireless display" and tick Click ‘Install’ from the next screen. Wait for it to finish installing, which should only take a few seconds Next, click ‘System’ from the left pane, then scroll down and choose ‘Projecting to this PC’ Adjust the settings here to your liking, striking a balance between security and accessibility. On your main device, hit the Windows Key + P to open projection options, then choose ‘Extend’ Choose your second screen laptop, and the two should now be connected Hope this is helpful.

China Covid: Shocking protests are huge challenge for China's leaders
Purdey replied to Scott's topic in World News
I guess the Chinese are more aware of what goes on in the western world than we thought. I wouldn't be surprised if they got it from television - though that doesn't mean the Chinese are copying but perhaps feeling more empowered. -
Number of domestic Thai travellers this year reaches 200 million
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I just wonder how they find these numbers. I don't see people counting visitors at the roadside. I doubt whether all small Thai hotels participate in providing data. I cannot imagine roadside noodle stalls counting people. I wish these people would reveal how exactly they counted Thai travelers. -
You can burn diesel or you can use electric buses that get their electricity from coal fired plants. There is a lot of natural gas, which of course maybe better than coal, BUT in November 2021, during the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, the Thai delegation announced ambitious plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. Five months later, the country is adding four new coal-fired power generators to its grid (to power those electric buses I presume). The cabinet has approved the first two plants, that will have an installed capacity of 660 megawatts. They are scheduled to operate from 2026 to 2050, and will form part of a series of coal-powered generators in the Mae Moh power plant, probably the dirtiest plant in Thailand. As the world increasingly recognizes the need to phase out coal, Thailand looks to be moving toward the fossil fuel. That should make Thailand the hub of CO2. When we read about these electric vehicles being introduced, the first thought should be, where is the electricity coming from?

Often wondered why British people retiring in Thailand can't speak Thai. Was here three years and thought that it was time to learn. Bought a book called The Fundamentals of Thai Language. It led me to get jobs for Thai companies and i have no interest in retiring now. Native language speakers have a distinct advantage. Everyone in my current company speaks English but is happy to know i understand when they speak Thai.

Pattaya Traffic Police crackdown on Bolt drivers

Always thought laws are there to control something. No one remembers Uber in Thailand i guess. If taxis are allowed to run without licenses i imagine people would cry about unlicensed taxis. Always complaining. -
Covid-Infected Thai Man Dies While Working From Home
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Anyone who was vaccinated against, say The Beta Variant, may not be able to fight off a new strain. Just as flu vaccinations are modified every year we may have to update our COVID vaccines annually. Not a big deal. And no this isn't being a moron or somehow being a sucker. It's listening to science. -
Throughout history a mass of people have been pushed to give rights to others by activists. "End slavery? Nonsense. That William Wilberforce is just an activist." "Votes for women? Blooming suffragette activists." We are too lazy or feel unable to be activists because of jobs, family etc. Giving at least moral support to activists is all we can do. When someone takes a knee or wears a rainbow armband, that is not an activist but a strong supporter. Showing support for activists is necessary. Throwing yourself in front of the king's horse is activism.

Many Laotians want a flutter on the matches too? After all the whole football thing is about gambling isn't it? Poor righteous Qataris wanted to host the cup in their Muslim state and then realized alcohol is important to fans. Now gambling. Whatever next?- 89 replies

If i remember correctly, a Thai with a foreign parent must decide which nationality to take eventually. The law may have changed. At 15 years s/he can get a national ID card. As a baby, it may look obvious to officers this is for the foreign parent's benefit. Putting the land in the name of the mother and getting an usufruct (simultaneously if possible) agreement will allow you lifetime use of the land
