Thai man with mental illness disappears after his arrest in Bangkok
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
I feel sorry for the mother. She is being punished by her son's actions too. -
Srettha invites Japan in development of digital economy, auto industry
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Nice if Thailand adds more variety of manufacturing here, especially modern tech. However, the abysmal state of public education here won't get the population ready for a generation or two. I am sure most politicians think they can upgrade students in a few months. -

I guess the Thai people already believe money can buy happiness. -
Israel losing global support over Gaza bombing, Biden says
Purdey replied to CharlieH's topic in The War in Israel
How many wars did not have civilian deaths? No one likes to see this. Remember Arthur 'Bomber' Harris? No one likes what he did. Was he wrong Firebombing civilians? Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed thousands of civilians. Was that wrong? I wish Israel would cut the heads off Hamas leadership instead of bomb civilians. Their top three leaders supposedly live in luxury in Qatar with $11billion in wealth. What about them? -
7 police surrender over money extortion while police spy charged with rape

I wonder what evidence they have, besides their testimony? I think the couple can now expect a tougher sentence for embarrassing the police. -
There is always channel switching, or turning off the TV and listening to Elgar for bringing back that manly feeling

The best thing about getting old is realizing that nothing else matters. Much better.

When I was given the option to retire, I asked to be allowed to continue as the office allows me to meet people (and the work is fun). A social life is the key to longevity, so bowls would be fine (if they had it in Bangkok) as it allows you to meet and interact. Holding a party at my place tomorrow with young colleagues as it is part of the social life we oldies need. Regarding music, I once had a chat with the music critic of the Bangkok Post (he only seemed to discuss endless classical music "cover" versions) and asked why he thought people switched their musical taste to Beethoven immediately upon reaching 60, after growing up with Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, AC/DC etc. Just a smile, then he walked away.

The SRT has been talking about double track railroads for decades. A bullet rain was promised for 2023. More railroads would lower the carbon footprint, especially if electrified. I remember talk of reintroducing electric trams years ago. I can’t understand who made them think roads were the way to go.

Watanya disassociates from new Democrat leadership but does not quit
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I believe she has not fulfilled the requirement of the length of time in the party. Wasn’t this mentioned in a previous article? -
Once had a chat with a permanent secretary of the ministry of education. He was excited after returning from Sweden. Swedes speak excellent English and tv there shows the BBC without translation. i suggested he implement English TV entertainment channels here. He became serious. We are Thai, he said. We are proud of our language and have no need for English tv here. A few minutes later he mentioned that his son had got into a US university and would I help him practice English before leaving. Yes, the elite don’t want the kids of ordinary people to achieve high standards in order to ensure their own kids are a rung above. There is no way to change this. Rich parents want their children to inherit Thailand.

That journalists are always in peril from people they investigate. I hope the poor guy recovers but it looks like he may have lost an eye. -
Taiwan seeking answers over hit and run death in Bangkok
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Very unusual for a private hospital to refuse a "rich foreigner" . Usually, they would dispense paracetamol at the least. Maybe there is more to the story. -
Parent’s tutor requirements spark online debate over Rajabhat University
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I understand, but having worked in Thai companies for 30 years, I am often left with choosing the Thai candidate who did a masters in the USA or U.K. I do admit that Chula Arts graduates are a preference when only a bachelor degree and good communication skills are required. I am sure there are good graduates, but have you ever wondered why Thailand is still a developing economy? If not poor education, then what?
