Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
At least 12 European countries currently ban smoking on the beach. https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/how-smoking-bans-are-evolving-across-europe-2025-05-30/ Thailand is just catching up. Cigarette filters are a big pollution problem as they are not easy to recycle. -
Economy Thailand Awaits New Central Bank Governor amidst Economic Pressures
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Whoever it is, they have to be qualified. Lowering interest rates further to encourage people to borrow and invest is not going to work while people don't want to invest due to the current economic climate. -

Report Thailand Eyes Small Nuclear Reactors to Boost Clean Energy
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
When a country can't even build a road like Rama II without killing people on a regular basis, then nuclear fusion, with the potential to kill or poison thousands, is probably not a good idea. Fusion plants may be the way forward but are not profit-making or used at commercial scale yet. -
Tourism Thailand Shifts Tourism Strategy Toward Value Over Volume
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As if the Chinese were top quality tourists... I remember the first time the TAT went for value and looked down of backpackers, who bought street food and bought stuff in ordinary markets that the rich studiously avoided by only shopping in airconditioned malls. The backpackers gave money to ordinary Thais while the rich gave to the same billionaires who hid their money in Panama. -
EU EU ready to hit US with 21-bln-euro tariff list, Italy foreign minister says
Purdey replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Why would the EU want economic revenge? Just don't buy American products if it upsets you. -
USA Trump's Mass Layoff Plan at Ed Department Clears Legal Hurdle
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in World News
If the department is simply a bureaucracy, then cutting back sounds like a simple move as the States take care of the actual education. However, no other department collects the data across the nation to evaluate how successful state education is. There has to be some bureaucracy. You can't have some schools teaching that, for instance, slavery wasn't a big thing in the South while other schools give a completely different history. -

Report Thai Government Resists US Tariff Talks Amid Military Base Rumours
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
You have to ask, does America need yet another overseas military base? Does Thailand understand the military consequences of hosting a possibly nuclear naval ship? Why do Russia and China need so many military bases near America? (say it while dripping with sarcasm) -
Economy Thailand Eyes Zero Tariffs on US Goods to Nix Trump’s 36% Levy
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Associated topic: one sees shops and restaurants disappearing due to people not getting enough customers. Now, are they expected to buy more American goods? Will Apple and others start sending more Chinese-made products and pretend they are made in America? -
As I expected, Ghislaine Maxwell has called Trump's bluff and said she is willing to go before Congress and "tell the truth". She may want time off her 20-year sentence but, whatever. Now, will she commit suicide in prison?

Honestly, there are so many rich and powerful on the list, if it exists, that Trump comes quite low in the ranks. Prince Andrew, after do many denials, would get kicked out of his home.

Majority of Thais Doubt New Cabinet’s Ability to Cut Trump’s Tariffs
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You can lead a horse to water. Yes, Thailand could put zero tariffs on US goods but will the Thais buy them? If they were that cheap Thais would have been interested before now. Better for Thailand to trade with African and Asian nations and not rely on America. -

ASEAN Condemns Junta Strikes as Air Raids Kill Seven Civilians
Purdey replied to geovalin's topic in Myanmar News
The air force uses mainly Russian planes. Perhaps the rebels should invest in anti aircraft batteries and drones. However, ASEAN should really condemn both sides for extending the war. Perhaps request America to come to a deal between both sides where America gets land with diamond mines?
