  1. Sounds like a faulty pressure switch... On the top of the pump there are probably two plastic wing nuts... One will have wires running into it close by.. That is the pressure switch...open it up and look for air leaks (bubbles in the water) as you unscrew  it... bleed the air out and try again... The second plastic wing nut is for priming the pump..it does not sound like that is an issue though with your OP.. I think air in the system is the issue....Good luck

  2. I really sympathise with your plight. I have a rural property back in Ozz with maybe close to 1km of poly pipe running every which way. Leaks are inevitable. It sounds like your leak is somewhere in the pipework. The way I locate a leaks is systematic. You need to isolate each (known) branch with a valve hopefully near the pump and then open and close valves to find which is at fault. Process of elimination. From experience I have found wet patches nowhere near where pipes are located. Up to 8 meters away from the actual leak. I suggest a walk around the yard and look for any water telltale. If there are pipes running near cracks in the concrete or walls look hard in those places. Also 90% of my leaks come from a join or elbow joint. Also check around the tiles under showers for water weeps. Sometimes hard to spot as area is always wet anyway. Good luck.

  3. Thank you gentleman for your effort replying. I am a novice trying to build up a better knowledge.

I need to do more research especially with the local TEA. I do not think there would be many days or hours that my planned 4.5Kw system will push power back into the grid. But in saying that I would like to get a return from them for doing so if it happens. Interesting to hear the disks can be ratcheted slowing the return supply down.

Being a retired Ship's Captain doing calculations keeps me occupied. The internet makes it so easy nowadays. In Burriram there is a difference of 46Deg in the Suns angle throughout the year.  In my planning I want to change the angle of the solar panels each 6 months to capture the most power from the Sun. March 21st and September 21st.

The majority of people are running the meters backwards or just very slowly forwards. It is difficult and expensive to install a system where you get officially paid

Thank you sometimewoodworker for comment. It is a positive reply to what I wish to hear. I have done heaps of calculations on paper with Sun angles expected efficiency and return on investment etc. I am at a stage where I think I can purchase materials and do it for a lot less than have Somchai do the same job. I might be looking at a 6 year return on investment. Maybe 180,000Bht -- compared to 240,000Bht++ Somchai wants. Electricity in Thailand is relatively cheap compared to Western Countries but I am happy to look up at the sun in the comfort of my A/C room knowing soon it will be free. Our house consumes most power 10am till 2pm water Irrigation pumps and A/C. Hopefully a 4.5Kw system will drop my power bill around 1800/2000Bht P/M to get the return.

  5. Sirquest, Any updates? I am costing/looking at installing a 15 panel system in both series and parallel. Each panel 310W 8.36A 37.09V. The resulting feed into the Inverter (3 strings x 5 panels in series and then put the 3 strings in parallel) would be 4651W 25.08A 185V. How does the WIFI display work. Is it tied to the internet? Where is the data stored? I really like the idea of having a record to look at so you can see the performance.

Trawler is at fault he hit the ferry’s port side you are the stand on vessel to vessels approaching your port side to me looks like the trawler was on auto pilot lucky very lucky indeed glad no one was killed

Read my post #74... It is not a trawler... It is a power driven vessel... I do not know location of incident or what day shapes the passenger vessel was showing at the time but it "appears" to me that the passenger vessel is more at fault. The passenger vessel is the give way vessel.. The fishing vessel "not engaged in fishing" is the stand on vessel and has right of way being on the Starboard side.

There is a reason why vessels at sea carry a red light to port and a green light to starboard. Red means stop, Green means go. So the fishing vessel would see a green light and the ferry would see a red light. Now then, which regulations are you reading ????

This incident happened in the daytime??? Rules I read are under the IALA code.

International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA)

The International Rules for Prevention of Accident at sea comes under that code..

  8. International regs for collision at sea... Both are at fault for not maintaining a proper lookout and keeping a safe distance... Both vessels are classed as motor vessels as the fishing vessel shows no day light symbol showing that she is engaged in Fishing. (if she does show symbol then she actually has more right of way as she is hampered by her gear) Both are at fault but the majority of the fault lays on the Passenger Vessel for not giving way to a vessel on its starboard side. The fishing vessel (as against a vessel engaged in Fishing) and the passenger Vessel lookout should not have allowed a close quarter situation to develop..... The buck stops at the old man "Captain" but chances are he or she did not have the Con of the vessel at the time of the incident just like the Chief Engineer was probably nowhere near the motors...  Duty Mate at the helm??? The Fishing vessel is the Stand on Vessel and the Passenger Vessel is the give way vessel unless it is displaying Constrained by Draught or Not Under Command day shapes or in a channel or Separation Scheme.

After March this year, one year after the money on deposit requirements changed, Immigration offices may want to back-check retirees complied by keeping the 800k for 3 months and then the 400k for the rest of the year.

If indeed many offices start doing these checks, Buriram may well fall into line too.

Scares the heck out of me also.... I will go by the rules and also have a back up with the 800K just in case needed in another bank account to show... Some things in Thailand drive you crazy with their non compliant ad hock rules...

  10. treetops...thank you so much for the reply.... I have sort of double dipped asking the same question in the post.. Changing from 800/400 to monthly installments…. You feedback confirms... I checked TransferWise and they have an option to show "retirement in Thailand" on the reason for transferring money... With my next transfer I will check that box and hopefully it will show up as a an international transfer... Thank you, Thank you...

Using Bangkok Bank for TransferWise all of my past 10 or so transfers have come in as FTT (international transfer),

Mojaco my TransferWise code shows as SMT in my Bangkok Bank acc. May I ask which country you are sending it from? Why does mine show SMT and not FTT? I am transferring from Australia.

SMT System for Managing Automated Retail Funds Transfer

Service for interbank funds transfer via online order submission

  12. I renewed my extension Non Im O last week in Burriram. I also want to change from the 800/400 to the monthly transfer system. I did a transfer into my Bangkok Bank account using Transfer Wise from Australia and showed the Imm officer asking if he would accept the code SMT as an international transfer. There are many posts about IO's not accepting Transfer Wise. Was told I need to show paperwork that it is an international transfer. You do this then too much paperwork you are better to use 800bht in bank 2 months before and 3 after. It was obvious he didn't want to do the extra paperwork. I said but I want to spend the 400K bht not just leave it in the bank. The Imm officer said no problem you can spend the 400k bht (using the 800/400 method) not worried about that!!!!!! The obvious question is what happens if he wins the lottery and quits and the next IO see's bank balance under 400k bht. I plan to keep the monthly transfers up and have 800k bht in a separate account. Next extension I will show the monthly transfer money trail and have the 800kbht on the side if there is an issue.

I posted a little while ago on another thread a screenshot showing Transferwise now has an option, under the reason for sending money, something along the lines of "For a long term visa in Thailand".  It's yet to be proven out but it could be that the problem has been/is being fixed by Transferwise.

Has this been sorted... Does it show international transfer??

Have you done your power usage audit yet for your current and future usage ??????????? Sounds like you dont have a clue about the limitations of solar installations. A 3kw system isnt much power after figuring real world daily average kwh production. But hey spend the money the thai economy needs all the help it can get right now.

Seriously thank you for the comment but hey! Just trying to come up with maybe using solar to drop my power consumption from the grid a bit and get a Return on Investment. My consumption is way over a 3Kw solar system. Yes a small system. My biggest power consumption is from about 10am till 4pm. It is just a return on investment and maybe being a bit green and hell yes helping the Thai economy at the same time. They need it! Im not a sparky sorry.. Just trying to gain knowledge from this forum.. I have 3x12vx40W solar system installed already running heat extractor fans in the roof and a circulating pump in the pool run on solar + house designed North/South with 3mt veranda and double insulation batts to keep the sun off the house . The solar panels are designed so I can change them to face the sun every 6 months for better efficiency.  I will definitely pay a visit to MP solar in Burriram for some advice and input. Thank you for the list of approved PEA inverters. Good point about the requirement for a back to the grid disconnect in event of a power drop. One thing I wish to do is keep the solar running while there is a power outage from the grid which happens every second day or so with the build up to the wet season April/March. 3 to 4 hours outage maybe.. There has to be a way to re-wire so you still have power and not electrocute the sparky fixing the breaker down the road. Worst case scenario I would turn off the non essential items like the fridge as I can cool my Leo with Ice...etc.. I am hoping that a 3Kw solar might still run one A/C drawing about 1900watt and I am sanook living here with that...

If you have read this far then I still have not had an answer to all of my posts regarding excess solar power... Maybe a question for PEA (useless)... if you have excess power going back into the grid (this being Thailand old style meters) will the meter run backwards or show the opposite as power actually being consumed. YouTube videos on solar feed back into the grid are showing this happens with old style meters.

  15. Just a correction to my last post 3Kw system not 3000kw!!!.... Not many replies to this thread but anyway I will soldier on... I have found an inverter which I think will cover my needs and the quality looks ok as they sell in western countries with QA. They are made in Taiwan from what I can read .  They do not supply to Thailand so I might buy one and bring it back from Ozz in my bag in April. Just a start on my project...  I still do not know if the meter reader here in Issan will show if left over power from the solar being sent back to the grid will actually show the opposite and actually read as if you are consuming power. It is something I picked up on from youtube videos..??

A link to the inverter I think will cover my requirements.... Looks like you can add batteries if you want to go down that path...

  16. Help please from Burriram, I am considering putting a 3000kw Solar system in. I am not a Sparky or Electrician but seem to know more than the local guys if you know what I mean.. Reason 1 is to drop my power bill as a lot of my consumption is in the middle of the day 2nd power outages which happens with the start of the wet season in April and thirdly go green a little bit.

My first question... I Have heard that that some old meter readers (Issan) will not read a negative power consumption. That is the extra power going back into the grid from the solar system if not consumed will show as electricity actually consumed? Is it true that the meter will (can) continue to run forward costing you money even though the power is going back into the grid?

Second Question... I do not want to go down the battery bank back up. The cost goes up big time. Power outages mostly happen from 1300hrs to 1600hrs from experience. I am thinking I can still use the solar to run the A/C which uses 1900watt and having panels 3000kw might(?) keep it going if not to cloudy. I have good sun where I want to put the solar panels. My question is how will an A/C handle low watts. Will it damage the A/C unit if it does not get the full watts and 10 minutes later it has enough power to run?

If anybody has thoughts on Inverters you can get In Issan or any ideas to help my project much appreciated...

  17. Our 2 year old bore is 30mt deep. The missus has the garden hose on 8 hours++ a day not to mention normal household consumption 8 showers per day. I am amazed it has not dried up yet. I was sceptical about how good the quality of the water would be. Previously we got water from a well and it was full of sediment. The bore water is very clear and I had to eat my hat. Water for human consumption is run through a reverse osmosis system. I have never had the water tested.... Most of my drinking fluids come from Leo. I have only lived in Burriram for 6 years and water is really scarce. Some dams are so dry that they have dug dams inside of dams. Our farm did not even get a rice harvest this year.

The Thai Baht has been strengthening over the past 5 years, so it is unlikely to weaken much.

    https://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=AUD&to=THB&view=5Y

The risk is that you will have to exchange more AUD for the same Baht in the future if you do monthly transfer. So you have to compare how much you can earn in Australia versus putting in a Thai bank.

Thank you Eric for your comment.. Bit off topic but/and yes my head on the chopping block with my prediction.. My reasoning is that Thailand is waking up that the big traders can buy the exact same products (mostly) from other nearby countries at a cheaper price. There is no doubt Thailand's economy is hurting because of the strong BHT and it is hurting hard. The average tourist would not have an idea of the exchange rate strength let alone what a bowl of noodles costs. The Thai media have rumblings finally over the strength of the Baht.. To get back on topic I am taking a gamble on my prediction of the exchange rate.  At least I have dollar cost averaging on my side over the following 12 months if I go down this path. When I bring cash to meet the 800k Bht locked up for 5 months I have to take the best exchange rate of the day. Just my take on it trying to save a satang so I can spend it on Leo Beer later.

Yes, the 12 monthly transfers plus balance at the end must be at least 800k. Good idea if you only want to transfer lower amounts for example 12*35k=420k, +380k balance = 800k

This is my dream scenario if I can do it.. I will chat with the Burriram Imm and see if it is an option. I will reply on this post with how it goes. (also appreciate every IO has different rules on the day).

If it works I might buy the wiffy some more gold and put a padlock on my fridge.

  20. My current extension was issued January 2019 prior to the latest rules. I have averaged a 10% return over the last 15 years on my Australian Investments and here in Thailand I'm getting less than 1%. Even if I put $ into a 6 month term deposit or something over here I would not get much more of a return. The reason I initially started using the 800k thb cooking in the bank option was because you could get a better return bringing AUD cash into the Kingdom rather than electronic transfers. I could put up with money being trapped for 3 months. It irks me now to have MY 800K thb locked up for 5 months and 400k thb which is just dead money for the banks to use. 10% x 400,000 thb = 40,000 thb just for a start. I appreciate the banks still win with transfer fees and lousy exchange rates anyway! I will put my head on the chopping block saying this but I am predicting that the THB will weaken this year. I will search more through the forum for other posts on the topic...
