Please keep us up to date as to what happens.  There may be someone along who has actually done an extension at Nonthaburi with some better info then we can give as CW is a different creature compared to Nonthaburi.  I wish you the best.  Are you using the Monthly income method, or money in the bank of 800K?

I will use 800,000 in the bank, however spread over 2 Bangkok Bank accounts, which was no problem at CW last year. For next year the amount will be in one account.

  2. OP here. I did my 90 day to day and as mentioned they wanted copies of all relevant pages of my passport which I had prepared previously not knowing what request I might have. I never had to do this at CW.

My gf did my TM 30 online when we moved here but not sure it was done correctly. I have given my current address, landlords tabien ban, landlords ID number not pic.

BTW I asked for a list of requirements for retirement extension and they will want 12 months of bank statements, unlike CW previously (for me)

    a) you're a little behind the times with this interweb thingy - you can choose to go no brown envelopes now and b) HMRC now ALWAYS ask for monies on account - its a scam having to pay up front on monies you haven't earnt yet but that's what they do

    Apart from that you're 0% correct ????

I received an e.mail that asked me to go online and view their assessment.  I logged on with password etc and I can confirm it was MY account.

However, I have good news. it has been reviewed and I was told I put  the pension figure in the wrong box..hmmmm

Zero tax to pay.  Customer service was first class.  I have given an update on this topic.

  4. From the info you posted this does not look like it a scam.
The receiving of the SMS code would mean that the scammers would have to be in possession of your security details.

The HMRC now operate on a real time basis, meaning they have up to date information of any earnings accrued under PAYE , thus your pension income will already be recorded has it is paid.

I suspect that the HMRC believe that you have another source of income subject to tax.. Thus could be due to completing the self assessment incorrectly.

I agree. I must have input incorrectly on my paper return although I did emphasise in the notes that my only income was pension and interest.
If they are correct will return home

I can assure you I am living completely on 30000 baht a month.
Many times I spend more monthly and go into my savings but at my age (67) I am able to do so. I have daughters in Thailand aged 11 and 14 but wish to provide for their education; although I am now divorced from Thai wife.
I will call UK later today. They are busy now and usual.

  6. With the OP being on a state pension, the DWP website says they cannot touch your'e state pension.
I know it's not the DWP the OP is dealing with, I may be wrong, but does this not apply to anyone? Is it not UK law that people must always be left with enough money to live on, and no one can touch your'e state pension?
I would assume so. The way this has been calculated I have zero pounds to live on

  7. Nonsence. I have contacted them many times over years via the number given via my tax code letter. I am always answered promptly and have found them helpful and informative. You obviously have not been trying hard enough to give them money. If you want to give some to me I will suppy you details.
There is usually a queue. I discovered when I sold my property 3 years ago

  8. I get my U.K  tax returns done by a UK tax specialist  , he does it all online and charges about 100 quid . PM me if you want his contact details
Thanks. I will give it 10 days then contact if no joy.
600 baht is worth it rather than compete with hmrc

Really? I do hope you are correct. Currently trying to forget at Irish bar in Silom. I will need to go to a quiet place soon.
    I went to Gov.uk
Then provided password and verification. Then received 6 figure number via mobile phone

  10. The phishing scam emails often have a link to a bogus site, designed to look
like the real thing. I regularly get these things and almost fell for it once.

As has been said, the inland revenue never send emails regarding rebates or demands.
I agree. I didnt follow any links. I used password, which no one would know.
If they are wrong is it possible to sue for causing stress etc?

  11. They may not even look at the letter until after the deadline.......remember Xmas is in the middle as well.
I feel I am not competant enough to use commercial software as I do not understand the terminology.
I had no problem for my first 9 years here.
However lately the question have changed and I am confused.
I will appoint an accountant in future.
    Better for peace of mind.

  12. HMRC send messages through your online personal tax account NOT by email If you have gone paperless.
If you are over the tax allowance currently 11500 on UK earned income/pensions you are liable to UK tax regardless of how many years you have lived abroad.
My only income is 8500 approx from UK pension plus 1000 a year interest on savings.
I sent by paper 2 months ago. I am sure they are wrong but it does cause me distress.
I know I'll be held in a queue on the phone. I'll use 0500 ais. It'll be worth every bant to resolve
