  1. Has anyone else noticed the taste of Chang beer in bottles has changed?   I went to Rambuttri, near Khao San last Monday and ordered a large Chang and, as has been expressed before on TV forum before, there was a chemical taste.  I told the waiting staff and also the manageress.  One guy took a sip and by his facial reaction indicated it was not good.  I sat there without a drink for 15 minutes hoping that  I would have a replacement of sorts but it was not forthcoming so I left.  I went across the road and had a San Miguel.

Next day I went to a different bar and the same thing happened.  The taste was not quite as bad as previously but did not taste good.  The waiting staff were pushing SM as opposed to Chang that day so for my second drink I agreed.

I messaged Thai Bev and they were very good in giving me a contact number.  Also I chatted to Customer Service on 027855555.  Although the lady could speak English and was helpful she asked me to send pics and supporting info to an e mail address she gave me.  However her I could not understand her accent when she was spelling the e mail address.

I have been drinking Chang for 12 years; I will drink a different beer from now on.

Maybe a problem with quality control?  Anyone else noticed a problem?

  2. Pinnacle Sukhumvit, situated soi 3 Sukhumvit almost opposite Nana  bars.  About 950 baht I would think.  I used to pay 700 baht 10 years ago.  Very convenient; can walk to most places.

Edit There are 2 Pinnacles. I am referring to Sukhumvit

  3. I went to Chang Wattana this week with a little trepidation.  I have been following posts about TM28 and TM30.  I had read about the requirements for those who were travelling and the responsibilities of the owner.  I had also gone on holiday in Thailand staying in a hotel.

I went to UK in October and returned the same month.  The 90 days window was approaching so I went to CW to do a 90 day report.  No problem. They were processing at the rate of one person per minute. I was 55th in the queue and on completion told to come back at Songkran.

However I will in future fill in the necessary forms (just in case the situation changes)

  4. I met the guy yesterday in the cafe at Sukhumvit and duly received said Will. He also gave me copies of his personal details, ie work permit, visa in passport and passport main page which matched his appearance perfectly.

I have informed the bank about the matter and they are taking appropriate steps.  The will does not now state any account but the damage has already been done. Once seen you cannot unsee.

The witnesses were local expats enjoying a coffee. I gave him the agreed amount on completion.

Looking back I was too helpful.  I wanted everything to proceed without problems upon my death. Maybe I was too trusting.  Usually I am not. It was only after I left the cafe after first meeting that I realized I had given too much information.

I had a phone call from my bank yesterday because I had contacted them the previous day.  He confirmed withdrawals are only on presentation of pass book and passport.

It's not unknown in Thailand to run a scam like this: you get someone's personal details, and then you take out a life insurance policy on them.  When you die, they collect, and there's nothing their family can do about it.  This happened to the father of a girlfriend I had in Ayuthya years ago.  Sounds like it may be his plan for you.  Are you over 60 years old?

Yes, I am.  I hope not to die in 'suspicious circumstances" 55

if you did not give him your pin number there should be no problem surely

Maybe I worry too much.  One account has a PIN number known only to me.  The other is a fixed deposit with no card.

I don't understand why he needed your bank account details. The will should written flexibly, without need to mention specific accounts, since who knows what accounts you may open or close in the future.

And does "legal advisor" translate to solicitor or lawyer?

On the business card it says 'Regional Legal Counsel'...so maybe not solicitor or lawyer

Why did he need bank details, sounds like a scam to me.

I thought maybe the account numbers (2 accounts) were not needed, but i thought it would expedite matters upon my demise. He did not ask for the amount in the accounts.

So u gave your bank account details to a stranger.

At the time it seemed the right thing to do when discussing a will.  I will ask him for his ID tomorrow.  Also I will have a pic taken with him. I regret doing it now.

  11. Yesterday, Saturday, I saw a legal advisor (from England)about my will.  I found him via Facebook page which seems legitimate.  Upon asking the price for a simple will, leaving all bank assets to my 2 daughters he gave me a price of 3.000 baht. Thinking it was a good price I arranged to meet him in Sukhumvit. We met in a cafe because he said he was in the process of moving office etc

I gave him photo copies of my passport and Bank account details so he could process the will.

I have made plans to meet tomorrow, Monday to receive the will (again, in the same cafe). He said no receipt will be given because of the low price.

Should I worry that he has access to my bank details and passport?
