I find it extraordinary that so many posters on this forum seem to think that paying an agent to put money into your account to get a retirement visa is perfectly legal.
I pointed out to some higher authority, that the "agent bypass" was being vastly promoted here. And the answer I got was: "Is it really illegal?". In my head I could help adding "T.I.T".

Yeah, you are right, this would be such a convenient way to prove that all French are thieves, isn't?

If a guy wants to live in a 3000 baht a month room with no air-con and only eats mama noodles from 7-11 then this is the appropriate way for him to live if he can support himself....If some ones not begging in the street then that should be good enough for Thailand...
Nope, just take the host country's prospective:
a) Cost / benefit? = low,
b) Risk (of becoming a burden) / Benefit = high,
Therefore I am not interested; we want high spending, properly insured tourists who come to visit us for a few weeks.
As for many other things I cant blame Thai immigration for their intent, it is their lazy, sloppy, ineffective and burdensome implementation of rules that drives me mad.

This is sheer laziness, they stretch their own rules to deny entry to obvious offender, when the only thing they need is one rule stating that no one can stay more 90 days a year on tourist visa, and/or exempts.

For an outsider (I am EU citizen living in Thailand) it's amazing how much support hard Brexit has.
I understand that lots of people voted for the idea of being independent from the EU 3 years ago. But what was called Brexit at that time has, as far as I see, little resemblance with what it is now.
It seems 3 years ago many UK citizens thought it will give more control to their own government. And they thought they will soon make some trading agreements with the EU and not much will change. Politicians and aligned newspapers told them everything will be fine and easy. Yes, I understand why people voted for that idea.
But now? Everybody had 3 years to learn about lots of details. And everybody should have learned that most of what the politicians promised is impossible. Cake and eating it with lots of cherries while the unicorns run around in the garden is just not possible. It's not that the EU holds those unicorns back, they just don't exist and nobody will make them appear.
But looking and Boris and his supporters now they still behave like all would be fine if the EU would just release those unicorns.
Why it not obvious for everybody that No Deal makes no sense at all? Because if the UK leaves in October with no deal what will happen in November? People will frantically try to make deals - but now under more difficult conditions.
I know we are all stubborn from time to time and realizing that our decision was not perfect and changing it is sometimes difficult. But it's amazing how far that goes in the UK. Follow me over the cliff and somehow there is a bright future after that... ?
Yes, the Brits voted "leave", but they overlooked the reality that the only politician they had, capable of negotiating the exit, died with Alzheimer's in 2013.

Indeed, my lovely Wife and two girls are the only reason I stay here.
I feel quite uncomfortable with the climate here, and miss many things from my "Alpine Europe", but I feel I can make some sacrifices for my love ones.

I know this has been debate at length here, but this study (2015) has the merit of being based on surveys made by reputable organizations.

Another fine example of Thai incompetence. A very poorly prepared jump, they probably didn't even look at the weather forecast; the wind at landing was stronger than expected and they have been pushed into the forested area at the back of the dropping zone. With the parachutes they use these poor guys are totally passive and cannot avoid any obstacle.
Maybe they wanted to reenact D-day...

Of course, no proof whatsoever is offered. Unbelievable!
I'm sure these posters believe that the moon landing was a hoax, Elvis is still alive and NASA is covering up that the world is actually flat.
The problem is that there are quite a few members here who keep repeating that everything is fine in Thailand, that "it is their country" and that anyone critical about the local mess should be sent home.
Enough to create a climate of paranoia, if you ask me.

Then there are those who take every opportunity to ridicule their country ....
If you asked any outsider, 95% would say that, with regards to Brexit, Britain ridiculed itself.
P.S I am using "Britain" deliberately.

No it's nothing to do with face that goes out of the window when money is on the table, it just proves the illegality of what is going on or they would not be sharing the ill gotten gains with agents.
Yeah, actually I thought there was a rule on Thaivisa, about "not promoting illegal activities", what happened to that one? This whole thread, and a few others, would be in contradiction.

Cannot believe this, "coding as a third language" ! Total joke, they should teach algorithmic as part of the Math curriculum, and dedicate a large chunk of time to IT topics.
This quite revealing of something I have been suspecting for a long time the Time language claims an unnecessary amount of time, especially in the earlier grades. And later is a poor medium for science, technology and business tuition.

“It’s incredible,” the Welshman said. “I said to him, ‘Enjoy it, soak it all up and don’t worry about crying, because all real men cry.’ He’s an amazing athlete and it’s been an honour to be part of this.” (Geraint Thomas).
What can I say?

In such event, I'd go to Malaysia under M2H first, and assess what our options would be:
. Stay there by myself and travel back and forth to/from Thailand,
. Get the whole family to Malaysia,
. Resettle the whole family in Europe. Sadly I can't say Oz or NZ anymore because of the horrendous cost of living and income tax.
The right choice would depend on the age of the kids, when disaster would strike.

France gives awards to foreigners for promoting the French language, for instance using French lyrics in songs.
That's correct, smaller, "has been", countries try to stay on the map by pretending to be cultural giants.

One should compare Thailand to neighboring Malaysia, where the average worker's purchasing power is about double of that in Thailand.
If you ask me why, I'd say it is because of sick greed at he top, and poor education at the bottom. Poor education is a means of preventing the country becoming a pressure cooker and the top being blown away.
But mostly a matter of time...

It is funny anyone would come here to ask for advice. Keep in mind that every couple, every family, every girl guy are unique.
The thing I want to tell you is that you don't have to go through the village marriage circus. I didn't: went to Banrak, got registered, got the marriage transcription from the French embassy, which wasn't need for Australia and got on with life. I largely (for two thirds) contributed to the in laws new house, next to hours and still feel good about it 10 years later. Sometimes we talk about it with my wife, she says that some people consider we're not married, then we look back at everything we have achieved together over the last 10 years, and have a good laugh.
