And showing off, way too much. When a friend buys a new car, I buy a new one maybe more expensive. At S. Valentine day my gf showed me of her female friends posting on facebook the pics of the money they got from their husbands...I was like, seriously? how poor is to post a pics of notes on facebook to show everyone your wealthy?? When I saw my gf profile I was like...disappointed. She posted pictures of some super expensive hotels she went to with her friends and mentioned the price.
So when your friend buys a car, you buy one "more expensive"? Not sure if that is interesting or weird? Also who calls Valentine's day,
S. Valentine day or gives cash on that day? That was almost unintelligible. What country are you from?

You just committed the same behavior you condemned your GF and friends of, boasting of wealth. Just a few comments and it's all coming around Luigi. Don't worry I think all will go well up until the time she fleeces you of your last Euro.
goodness gracious! because he mentioned having bought a Ford Everest means he is "boasting of wealth"?
That guy was the international surf bum real estate tycoon so maybe having 4 motorized wheels is a luxury....cut him some slack LOL!

You need to study the Thai culture A LOT more than you obviously have.
A smile is their way of saying sorry or hi or greetings or anything to spark some feeling of being positive.
Love these guys who have it all figured out....until they don't!

I drink only Lagavulin whiskey and tequila, unlike you I suppose.
Now would that be Patron tequila, or one of the ones with sombrero on it?

As for the issues about politeness and smiling, by holding the door open for a Thai you are putting yourself in the position of a servant. You should expect to be treated accordingly.
Does this mean he can ask for a tip?

I met my gf during a vacation in Japan. Then again she once flew to Europe and visited my home town for 2 days. Then after 2 years for work I went to Cambodia (so could go few days to bkk too). Then a serie of events did lead us together
Sounds like it would make a great romance novel. Get to work writing and submit your manuscripts for peer review right here ragazzo!

To succeed in living in Asia you must learn to have a blind eye to many of the things that irritate the dickens out of you. Live your life with your own dignity and emphasize those things in the culture you do like.
No this sort of self-serving selectivity limits one's perspective. Take the good with the bad, the ying with the yang....one will not exist without the other.

Many more than you think. Both in Japan and Korea “expats” come in their twenties and study. Often they come back as businesswomen/man. Same thing is happening in China.
Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile appThose aren't expats, those are students. Next thing you know, you will say English teachers are expats!

This is nonsense. How many expats who work in Japan or Korea, master the local language during their 2-3 year stint. Close to zero I think. Imagine an expat with 3-4 posting in different countries......you expect them to keep learning and forgetting new languages?

Hi.
we have talked about this leader thing already at the very beginning of the relationship and agree that I am not going to be that kind of leader. This is another aspect that I don't like of this country. Women relying too much on their men and the families of the women expecting the men to be carry everything on.
Here doesn't matter how hard you work, they just want to be sure you can provide for everything and families want money too to "be sure you can give a good life to her daughter" ( so stupid this one to me)
In other words, you would rather sponge off others than have them sponge off you , or have I misread this.

I wonder what all the people you are judging think of you when you are judging them.
BTW, where did you meet the girl? There always seems to be one behind every story of angst?
