    So it's not a 30 day extension.

All they are saying is that if your visa expired, or is going to expire, on or after the 26th March or during the month of April, you can wait until the 30th April before you have to get it extended.

That's the "amnesty".........overstay charges suspended but will be levied from 1st May.

...unless, as is likely if current circumstances remain unchanged, it is extended...

"????‍♂️Aliens are advised to follow announcements regarding Immigration measures closely for updates. (Currently measures announced until 30 April 2020 or further updates)"

Unfounded speculation about fines isn't necessary if you bother to read the announcements.

???? Announcing the latest visa relief measures on 7 April 2020
    .
????‍♂️ The person whose visas has expired from 26th of March 2020 will be automatically extended to 30th of April 2020. There is no need to apply for a visa extension at Immigration Office for this period and will not be fined THB 500 per day for this case.
    .
????‍♂️ Aliens who are due for 90 days reports between 26th of March 2020 and 30th of April 2020 are temporarily exempted from reporting in this period until further notice.
    .
????‍♂️Aliens who are holding Border Passes will be allowed to stay in Thailand for now. However, Aliens with Border Passes must depart Thailand within 7 days of the border crossing points opening date.

This is absolutely disgraceful! Are these immigration officials retarded or what? Making people queue like this is criminal given social distancing requirements! I would rather pay overstay than subject myself to this BS!

but your not even in Thailand ...   you live outside.

    Is that right?  Oh, boy.

Did anyone else notice their electric bill from MEA increase noticeably this month? Mine increased by over 1,000 baht with no real change in electric usage in my home. Few of my neighbors have noticed the same thing.

Your bill is itemised if you get it direct from the MEA, number of units used, rate per unit, VAT etc. so it's very easy to check, they don't just pick a figure out of the air!  You can see if there are any changes since the last bill and If you get a calculator out you can check that the MEA's computer computed correctly.  If it's wrong just contact them.  If the rates haven't changed then you must have used more electricity.

If you really want to clean your bank notes effectively, just iron them. That is enough heat to destroy the virus.

As long as the notes are not the plastic ones or they will shrink.

Which Thai banknotes are plastic?  The 20s, 50s, 100s, 500s and 1,000s aren't, is there a new note in circulation?

If they waived the visa for 3 months I'd be happy to come back to immigration later and pay for any fees. I can't fathom why they won't just take our money if that's all it's about.

The only people who have said that money is what it's all about are the usual wildly speculating Thaivisa (and similar) posters.

How do you know that "none" are in that category?

So tonight I had a peruse of the same street after 10. Well seems traffic is down to less than 10 percent of what it was last time. And most of those were taxi motocy's. They are not exempt. I wonder if it the threat from the Boys in Brown. I rest my case.

    "I rest my case".

Probably your best decision considering you didn't have a case in the first place, my learned friend.

The reason is simple. The Thai tobacco industry needs to be protected, and will do anything to curb competition from outside. That's also the reason why they banned E-cigarettes.

Really?  They're that desperate, are they?  That must be why Thailand banned the import of all brands that compete with their brands here, yes?

"That's also the reason why they banned E-cigarettes".

I doubt it; what threat are a few e-fags to the Thai tobacco industry, exactly?

If you need to call landlines use Skype for mobile phones. Auto top up when balance is low...Pennies not pounds per minute.

Pounds per minute?  Which century are you in?  Dtac is B7 per minute to UK and B2.5 per minute to the US.  AIS charges are similar.

Please avoid engaging in scaremongering about passports, visas, banks, targeting of farangs, victimism, etc.

He didn't mention visas, banks, targeting of farangs, victimism, etc. neither was he "scaremongering", he simply asked a question/made a reasonable suggestion.
