  1. What might be settled with a bit of fisticuffs in the car park elsewhere, or the police intervening, here involves deadly weapons and police who always arrive after the event.

Fisticuffs? Nah they don’t do that in Thailand! It has to be final! Death to the person who argued with me, or said something to my girlfriend, or any other trivial reason !

  2.
Maybe you should stop hanging around your bargirls and their families.

All my Thai friends who visit Hua Hin eat Seafood when they go there. They aren't rich and they don't live in Hua Hin either.

Some of you guys are so out of touch and think you have your finger on the pulse of Thailand. It is hilarious.

Oh we do! We know how we are 2nd class and cash cows!

  3. I discovered a long time ago that most high end restaurant food in Thailand is completely overpriced for what is often very average food and usual small sized portions! One reason I make sure I have a small kitchen and cook my own! oh and now in Lanta with their crazy restaurant prices, it’s 7-11 meals for few days and they seem to be doing a booming trade, shelves emptying quick and the mass of over priced restaurants very few customers!

  4. "Only backward, undeveloped and “unless it happens to me” countries such as Thailand"  ... Well you know what the answer is here for you as regards this Opinion, Buddy !!! ...(With all due respect) ... as I, ..and the 70 million Thais do not have to, and well, thankfully are not going to change for you, or anyone else like you I hope.

Well they dont want to change for their own 70 million folk “buddy”. So I never thought they would likely change for a foreigner

  5. There are two ends to the scale: countries such as the UK where the tendency to be nanny state is strong and Thailand, where the tendency is non-existent and even a slight move towards proactive law enforcement would take a lot of time and training to implement - case in point, the helmet law which has improved matters considerably but has taken over ten years to reach this point and still has further to go, it's the way Thai's do these things.

So for the police to suddenly perform their role in the same way it's performed in the West, would be a massive culture shift that nobody is really prepared for. In the first instance, the police are not sufficiently well trained or knowledgeable enough to enforce the law, in the second instance the culture here is not ready to accept such a shift from a police force who are seen to be mostly corrupt and inefficient, that's what I mean when I refer to a nanny state in the context of Thailand.

If those things are not true, why do the police not simply go out and start enforcing the law at all levels, everywhere....they don't because they can't plus the people wouldn't allow such a large scale shift in policing, at one time in short timescales.

Totally disagree! The public in UK

in general, accept rules and laws (nanny state)whether they like them or not! 99% are there for a good legitimate reason! Only backward, undeveloped and “unless it happens to me” countries such as Thailand would tolerate such carnage on the roads !

  6. You may be right.  To be honest, I don’t care.  My dear old mother gets cheap fares on the buses, her sister is not bothered one way or the other when she comes up to visit, and whether strangers get a cheap fare or not is unlikely to make much difference to the overall cost of service.

if I was a bus driver, in a fixed salary, I don’t think I would bother.  “OJ, Grandad; you’re not from round these parts, are you? That’ll be four pound forty five, and mind and tender the correct change”

i’n not sure there’s any documentation that shows you’reboth A local resident and a crumblie.  As I remember, before my dear old late grandmother passed on o greener pastures where the quiet waters flowed, she had a specific bus pass for the Corporation buses, and for the SMT buses.

But it to be honest, I don’t care.  I pay full fare on the BTS, and if other people are unhappy paying full fare they can piss off, and maybe I’ll get a seat.  The last thing I want is to be stood next to some miserable Johnny Foreigner complaining that I’m not wearing a shirt and that I’m fondling  my rented Trollop. In both cases, i’ve Paid full fare, and I’mnot charging you to watch

Wow a Thai with a rant ! Make you feel good “stranger”?

  7. NO farang is "forced" to be "a victim of discrimination and double pricing" in LOS. Can't accept it? You know what to do.

Well of course in LOS you have to ask the price of virtually anything (product or service ) before because most of the time it won’t be stated. And even then the “seller” will sometimes find some charge post agreeing’. It’s a case of “never accept it”
