Alot of the nicer houses in the poorer farming areas were built with money from expats. Alot of trucks, cars and income is from expats. Countless business employing many. To say it is insignificant, is a blatant misunderstanding of Thai economics. Thousands of hotels, restaurants, countless airlines and many tour companies, also benefit. By comparison, an average ex-pat spends how much per month? I would say alot of us spend 50,000 to upwards of 100,000 baht a month. I know I do. No value in that? I know some live on less. However, since the average GDP of the nation is around $570, that means about 18,000 baht a month?
I think xenophobia is utterly rampant, in all segments of the government here, from the feds right on down to the local amphur. However, I do not think most Thai people are that way. I think most either like us, or are indifferent to us. Which I can handle.
To the contrary, I think ex-pats should be treated with the kind of respect and acknowledgement we deserve. We have decided to change our policies, and we now realize how much you guys bring to the table. An immigration officer will now come to your home to renew your visa, to show our appreciation, of your continued support. You will only be required to sign one form, and we will give you a five year, multiple entry visa. Free of charge. And we will include a 10,000 baht voucher, good for any hotel in the country, for one year.
Princely treatment. Thank you so much for helping to rescue our economy and our people. We appreciate it, and aim to show it for a change! We are past the era of thugs like the big joke. And we apologize for all of his abuse. We realize we have been moving the country backwards. And Covid has given us all some time to reflect. We are going to start changing things, and attempt to move the nation forward, instead of backwards.
I agree, but will anything change. Not likely. I've lived here 6 years with my thai partner and her son. Built 2 houses and spent a lot of money. Do l feel valued here? NO. I am presently submitting spousal immigration application and getting out. This vaccination hierarchy was the final straw.
We live here and are not treated fairly. Thais can go to my home country as a visitor and receive a quality vaccine. No questions asked, no cost.

Don't hold your breath for Moderna. They are having trouble meeting commited orders. Thailand has yet to place a firm order.

I think you can read into this announcement that there are leftover vaccines because ofhesitancy oflocal Thais. Maybe they are worried they will not reach the 70% goal.

70% of 69 million with 2 doses equates to 1 million a day if the September goal is to be met. That and hesitancy to register will make this very highly unlikely to happen.

The UK did not implement closures in the face of rapidly growing infection numbers, to allow a semblance of Christmas to occur.
The likely thought process might well have been that the already underway vaccination program would kick in, but the UK was in a bad way by early January... 4000 people daily were going to hospital, with the paper crowns still on.
The worry is Thailand has not really got the vaccination program moving, and is dependent on a poorer vaccine, and promises of a domestic supplier that has yet to bear fruit.

Such a small sample, really not valid result for a study.

They don't need to fine or punish. Offer incentives. Maybe free lottery tickets.

Not hospital, lower level, where people get in for free with their small health problems, I dont know the correct word, like a little hospital without beds, only for people who can walk in and walk home again, in the west we could compare it with a doctors practice, but here it is public and for free. I think they also make some general health registrations there. I think every subdistrict must have such a clinic.
Is this referred to as a "primary care unit"?

Yesterday I was making my vaccination registation at our local medical clinic.
I am over 60, and only have passport.
What local medical clinic? Hospital? Public health office?

Thailand's birth rate is 1.53. You require a birth rate of 2.3 to sustain the population and economic growth. Countries like Australia and Canada actively encourage immigration to grow their economies. Thailand has been able to sustain economic growth with tourism and immigrant workers. Now tourism has disappeared. These expats of all types help the economy. I fail to understand why the Thai government isn't working hard to get these people back.

My girlfriend just was 2 weeks ago there in quarantine and she felt like a animal in a cage... could go 1 hour per day on the roof
Until the first covid-19 test, 24 hours in your room. I write from experience. Then 1 hour out of the room. Nurse twice a day coming to your door to take temperature and blood pressure. Meals delivered to your door. Sounds like a fun vacation.

The place to catch the main buses downtown has changed. I'm betting the 'old' directions to the old place to catch those buses hasn't been changed.
Flew in Wednesday. Signage is good but a long walk. Easy walk as not many people standing around in your way. Very quiet.
Seats inside to sit on while waiting.

Which Thai Embassy was this?
I stand to be corrected, but there indication was incorrect.
There is only a procedure to obtain a Non O based on marriage or retirement when you entered either Visa exempt or on a Tourist Visa. There is no procedure for changing or applying for a Non O based on retirement when you've entered on a Non O based on medical.
As already stated, you may be able to apply for a 1 year extension based on retirement from a Non Imm O based on medical, but that would be at the discretion of Immigration.
You would need to meet the financial requirements of 800K in a Thai bank for 2 months prior to the date of application, or 2 x monthly overseas transfers into a Thai bank of 65K +.
Which is your local Immigration office Ryan.
Went to Immigration. They were very helpful. All is well.

It was the Embassy in Mexico City. It was all very rushed , with lots to do and only a few days to get all done. They were very helpful. I will go into my Immigration Office in Sakon Nakhon and see if l can get an extension of stay based on retirement on this Visa. I have all the requirements.

Well, that's a new one on me!
You already have a Non O (based on medical). Why didn't you apply for a Non O based on retirement instead at the Thai Embassy.
You may be able to apply for a 1 year extension based on retirement changing the reason of stay from medical to retirement, but I've never heard of that before.
Maybe @ubonjoe can provide some light on the issue.
They were not issuing tourist visas and due to a very tight time constraint for the repatriation flight and my necessity to get back for the operation, they felt this was the best way.
