Thailand and the UK are worlds apart in 'getting the message across'. The UK can remind road users of the dangers and consequences, based on the knowledge that all drivers have had training and proper testing.  Enforcement of the laws is strict. Here in LOS there is contempt for the law because there is a futile driving test (if taken), and little, if any awareness of the law, coupled with scant enforcement by the police.

there are suppose to be ONLY 240,000 coppers so how can such a small force enforce the laws.....

Brakes again ! and driving at only 30 Km H, that's 2 lies.

    regards worgeordie

have these Thai drivers ever been told  to use gears to slow down...even an automatic slows the vehicles down......i use gears often. 30 kms per hour is only 19 mph...so how can the driver NOT control the vehicle.....he could have used the handbrake too..

THAIS are NEVER TAUGHT what to do in certain situations.....this is why so many lives are lost

For all the hand-wringers what do you suggest to move agricultural workers and others around? Minibuses are not practical and the drivers are just as bad. Companies are not going to run two vehicle fleets- it's economically nonviable.

The practice should not be banned entirely-  the country would grind to a halt.

Ban them on divided highways and other high speed roads but allow them on rural roads where they are needed.

The true problem is not people in the back - it's poor driving skills and an inability to read the road ahead. An empty pickup is far easier to brake than one with 16-20 people in the back but Somchai doesn't get that.

why say this....surely a pick up is built to CARRY GOODS (or a big weight) so 16 to 20 people in the back is WEIGHT....which the braking system should COPE with!!!!!

First of all, I noticed no signs telling people not to smoke. And yes, people were smoking. Big shock.

How are tourists supposed to know without signs.

Second, the designated smoking areas are still on the beach. I could smell those nasty cigarettes from the beach. So what’s the point?

what difference will signs make......on roads there are signs indicating speed limits, does anyone take any notice? Answer is a big NO
