What is being said publically does not match what is happening on the ground.
Me, 66, Type 2 diabetes, 3 stents, elevated Blood Pressure currently hiding in my village in Kanchanaburi. No one will register me in my province. I will not risk a trip to Bangkok.
Local health Clinic - Thai Only, Local hospital that has my records, Thai only but have no vaccines anyway. Local village chief - will be a long time and not for foreigners, Laos or Myanmar (my village has many migrant workers, also increasing the infection risk).
I realise as a diplomat you have to be diplomatic but someone, maybe Boris, should be calling them out.
Thanks for reading.

Have been relying for a while now on online orders from 2 or 3 websites as the wife and I wanted to avoid the Makros and BigC in this covid time. Not keen on a 3 hour drive each way to shop for essentials either, though we used to do that once a month.
I get everything I need home delivered and the wife gets all she needs locally. The closed markets have transformed to individuals setting up their stalls in front of their house. Same produce, same faces, just not all in the one place.
I see no sign of shortages and am pretty confident, at least the rural villages will never run out of pork or veg.
I have no plan to turn vegetarian but it's a possibilty long term.

This should be implemented nationwide. It’s the only way to beat the virus.
Yes, combined with availbility of vaccines not just in Bangkok.

Kind of a personal question but why are your friends going to the hospital? If they are only sick and don't need oxygen why would they need to go to a hospital?
Is this some thai thing?
In the western world you just sit at home and get better unless you have breathing difficulties.
They have both tested positive twice and their personal choice is to be in hospital care. One definitely has breathing issues. Sorry I do not have many details, just relaying what I they told me. He is mid-70's, wife 50.
Until very recently if you tested positive you were going to some facilty whether you liked it or not. I believe due to the bed situation some have changed to allow caring at home if you're not too sick.

Well my province finally made some AseanNow news, though not good.
I am half way between Sangkhla Buri and Thong Pha Phum towns, all getting sealed off as I type.
Maybe now some vaccines will wing their way here?
One can hope.

Right now my brother in law is standing outside a hospital since 7 am it's now 9-15 am he tested positive 2 days ago and the bed was booked for him, he says the amount of people outside the hospital is unbelievable he is supposed to have a number in the que, organised chaos he said,
I should have said in Bangkok
I have 2 good friends in Pattaya reporting the same. So far they have turned up 4 days to be sent home, asked to return daily. He says he's tried many hospitals but none have a bed for them.

Yep phone APP is the way to go.
Our small bank is always crowded too, and once a year the wife goes to pay an annual insurance premium. She does not have Internet or apps as she is not tech savvy enough. This was due this week so to avoid a trip I dug out last years bill and scanned the QR code, up popped her details, policy number, bank details etc. Fill in the amount and transfer. Job done.
If the OP is not able to use phone app, why not pay a trusted Thai to go for you if the bank allows?

Dear G can no one make up their mind?
Sinovac was slated for being the least effective, aspecially after just 1 jab.
Sinovac had a low half life meaning it wasn't long before it was even less effective.
It was initialy reported that SInovac should not be given to over 60s.
It was later reported that Sinovac was actually ok for everyone.
And now it's great if you combine it with a vaccine that's performing better.
They sure are coming up with ways to use up unwanted stock. No sale or return here.

For other people in Bangkok not wanting to go to Bang Sue or for people in the provinces register at a hospital vaccination center or your regular hospital. You will be given a date for vaccination, turn up and get the job done.

Where are you in Kan? I'm close to Phanomtuan, got 1st dose of AZ 28th June, due 2nd in Sept. Registered through my local Govt Health Clinic.
I am 200 Km North West of you, way out in the sticks. Sangkhla buri district.
Just this morning the poo yai announced that tomorrow anyone who wants a SInvovac (under 60, no health issues) should go to the local obador and check their name is on the local list. Thai ONLY. My name is not on any list other than a scrap of paper noted by a nurse at the local clinic. Pretty sure it's not in any system, as are all the non Thai migrants here, of which there are many hundreds. 500 people will get a jab, and later a second one.
The rub is you have to go to Sangkhla Buri town for the jab. The same town that 2 weeks ago was shut off to non residents as there were several large factory clusters. It would be an hours drive for me but it's not an easy place for most to get to. Very steep and winding road for a Click. Needs a car.
So according to the wife it's irrelevant as not many are interested in Sinovac. We will see if they get 500 takers. I would estimate that is only about 5% of the region, but at least it's a start.

Agree 100% but I also thiink they missed a huge opportunity to do something good for a change. We all know leaving the UK is somehow to be penalised with frozen pensions, no NHS on returning (have to wait 6 months or lie), and still have to pay UK tax.
I can live with that, but this donation would easily cover ALL UK citizens living here, and more to the point, several countries have set a precedent in vaxing their own passport holders. They missed a golden opportunity to do something for everyone. Set up 4 or 5 provincial centres and we could all relax a little. Could be done in a few weeks.
Huge missed opportunity in my view.

I will take 2 as well.
I am in exactly the same situation in Kanchanaburi.
In case you didn't see it, there is now a Khon Kaen hospital on the Thailandintervac page. Good luck.

Interesting questions.
I have been in Thailand 5 years pretty much doing not a lot, especially since Covid put the kibosh on the wife and I's retirement plan of monthly holidays out of our village.
However, before Thailand I volunteered in Cambodia for 5 years and was the most rewarding time of my life. I helped make a real difference in many peoples lives and it felt amazing.
I came to Thailand with the mistaken idea that I could continue to do some sort of volunteer work. Indeed the local school and literally dozens of families approached me to ask if I would tutor in English as the village had never had a native speaker before. It did not take long to find out that voluteering like this was against the visa rules. Of course some say 'just do it' but there is an attached risk if the wrong people dob you in as 'working' on a retirement visa.
So as much as I would like to continue paying back, I find in Thailand that is easier said than done.
I still support some families in Cambodia, but my currently boring existence would be much improved if I could volunteer a few days a week at the school at the end of the road. I feel like Thailand is contributing to my inability to help.

@Saltire - was the "recent email" you referred to in the OP anything like the one I received from the Co-op last April (sanitised version attached)? Following its receipt I raised the issue of one-time passcodes being sent to UK mobile numbers with them via their online private messaging facility, and this is what I was told:-
We're unable to allocate a non UK number into the mobile field, however for customers who don't hold a mobile number with us this code will be sent via email instead.
More information and key dates for these changes will be explained further once the team has the timings secured for this change.
So, unless you have heard from them since April, they have still not finalised their plans, it would seem.
ot the same one but a simpler one received last week. Very to the point - please let us have your UK number or you can't use the cards online but no deadline.
I have a UK sim on its way ao I hope this will resolve the problem.
I don't have banking with them, only 2 credit cards.

Thanks for the amusing, not-about-vaccines' post.
I would have just said 'kho tort, krap' a lot sooner. You were way too polite. I can't see the Thai ladies wating patiently behind you if it was the other way about ????

Same here and by the looks of things, my province will be one of the last to vaccinate anyone, and I may need to go the private hospital route and pay, which I don't mind as I may even get a choice by then.
Go to Bangkok for a jab but come back with Covid is all too real at the moment. No thanks.
Having said that if I was surprised by an offer now of AZ I'd probably take it. I fall into the very vulnerable group.

Is that via WiFi or VPN, because that is very slow otherwise.
Who are you paying Bht 600 a month to?
Wifi with TOT. They have much faster offers now but everything works fast enough for me.

Thanks, good to know, but that would not work for me, you could not stream video in 4K with that reliably.
Good enough for Netflix though. No problems with streaming.
There is faster on offer now since I had this, but don't need it.

So are you saying that when you get the 'already in use' message for your email, there is no point in blindly trying repeatedly? Best just to wait till the 1) fix the records with incomplete data and 2) send out the email.
Thanks
