  1. To the ones asking how to increase the apps. Looks like OP and all his neighbors are on the same transformer. It increases the voltage from a higher voltage down to the household 240 V. They are only willing to give you 15 A, so as not to overload that transformer. If you get them to put a dedicated transformer just for you, it will step down the same high voltage to the 240 V house power, but it will not be shared with neighbors, and you can have whatever amps you want.

  2. Mister Prakan also quoted me Pacific Cross. 1. It is expensive for the cover provided. Look at the rates they pay per day in hospital vs. the annual premium per year. My benchmark is a 3 week hospital stay, 1 week of that in ICU. Add up the per-day rate and per-visit doctor charges allowed. The total (21 x doctor rate), 14 x (room/board/nursing rate) and 7 x (ICU rate) is often only a little more that the annual premium, making similar to self-insurance.

  3. I had D policy. They sent a fancy renewal package with a card and policy, thai language only. My friend read it and called them. They said this material is for the expiring cover, and that the only new-cover they offer is if you die. I contacted Mr Prakan, they offered cover with another company for ฿7500/year, any age. Many medical questions on application. I Googled the company, found they never answer the phone, don't speak English, and don't pay claims. Only alternative is full medical cover, expensive and required full expensive doctors exam and labs, possibly raising price. Plus, the daily hospital rates are so low that you are basically self insuring. Im American, age 68, so Medicare is not allowed to cover you overseas beyond 60 days. I’m looking for ideas.

  4. You can use agents, but if you have the 800,000 baht, and everything else is in order, the price should be lower as many have told you. I did everything myself. I did rent a condo that I liked, I still live here three years later. But many landlords would rent you a cheap room and provide the TM 30. Hotels and some other places do it online, ask if they’re willing to give you a print out of the screen share. If you are American or some other nationalities, you can have your embassy provide an address verification. For the American Embassy, you don’t need to prove where you live, you can put anything down on the paper and they will notarize it, however you need an appointment which takes a couple of weeks. Once you have the condo contract and address verification, take them, it might help to bring a copy of your home country bank statements with substantial money in them, tell them you need the account to get a retirement visa. People are reporting receiving restricted accounts where you have no ATM card, mobile, or Internet access, if need be you can accept that, because it is good enough to get your retirement visa. You can get full access after you get your visa at the same or another bank. I used Krungsri at Sukhumvit 33 near Villa Market; people have had luck with the branch in Emquartier also. Some have got it from Bangkok bank or other banks, especially in malls or tourist areas, but they are often refused. When the money has been in the bank 60 days, go to immigration. You must go to your bank on the same morning you go to immigration to update your bank book and get a verifying letter from the bank to take to immigration. If you have all this, you can go get a 90 day extension of stay by reason of retirement for 1900 baht. Be aware that in Bangkok and some other districts, officers may visit your home just to verify that you live there, that you have the bankbook with the real money in it, and this is your real address. They are usually friendly and polite on these visits. Before 90 days later, you must return to immigration, and you were then receive a one-year extension. I am approaching my fourth extension, and I have never used an agent. If you need an agent to get the bank account, Siam Legal and Thai Visa Centre are often mentioned. About ฿5000 ($160) as mentioned and they can quote you on getting the whole visa for you as well. Many people who use agents do it because they don’t have the money in the bank and these Fixers have a way to sort that.

  5. It doesn't work for me. iPhone and MAC (tried Chrome and Safari). I tried autofill and manually entering the data. CAPCHA fails. Tried entering the letters in upper case and lower case (They are shown in upper case). I used the old system, till I did my first report after new visa extension by post, as required. They didn't enter in in the system. Next report by post but never received it back. Bumrungrad Business Center called and immi had it in their internal system, so they did the last one for me. So in short, the new system doesn't work for me. Non O retirement extensions, Bangkok office. (I tried logging onto old system; its down, keeps recycling back to picture of the king.)

  6. As others have stated, you could enroll in Medicare a and B through the American Embassy in the Philippines, even without a US address. I looked at all this at length, and decided to enroll in Medicare B, pay the premiums, as well as take a high F Medigap policy. It’s expensive, and part B is going up a lot in 2022, ostensibly for some unproven Alzheimer’s drug. If you have the ability to self insure as you say, surely you could pay for a high deductible Medigap, perhaps G, F is no longer available. And I would definitely pay for the part B.

You don’t wanna get into a position where you return to United States sick, but have no availability of any insurance at all for a while. I do have a US address, so easily enrolled in a Humana Medigap policy. For other readers going on US Medicare with a US address, you should absolutely get a Medigap policy within the six months to avoid medical underwriting, and avoid Medicare advantage, which are HMOs. They limit your care to the county which US as a US address, except for emergencies, and to certain doctors.

  7. When Anutin made his much-derided remark about dirty Farangs refusing masks, he was right. I see almost all Thai people and Asian foreigners wearing masks. it’s young, Caucasian foreigners not wearing them. Not only on the street, huge numbers of FarangsI have shown up at Phrom Pong and Emquartier, where I often dwell. Often unmasked.  At my gym, everybody wears a mask all the time. They ought to find them as advertised, second offense deport them after suitable time in detention.

  8. I support forced vaccinations, unless there is a valid medical contraindication. Not religious or philosophical. Yup, no vaccines, no football games or extensions of visas. To the person who said his medical exemption isn’t recognized , i hope they sort it for you. Yes, theres rate instances of serious vaccine side effects. Yes, its disappointing that vaccines don’t stop infection, but they are all we have. Given that if you are infected you could harm others and be forced-hospitalized, its most important.
