Definitely doable. Only thing to be aware of is the 1 Million Thb guarantee from the Govt’ if the bank goes under. My understanding is it’s 1 Mill per bank ( used to be 5 Mill if I recall correctly).

Hi Everyone
i am about to reach uk pension age. I realise i can apply four months before my 66th birthday. My question is, before that, how difficult is it to do online from here? And what sort of dates and documents will they require? I intend having my state pension paid straight into my Thai bank account.
thanks in advance
If you look at the gov.uk website there will be a section on pensions and what you need to provide. I’m 66 next year and have sort of started pulling the info they require together. As always there is a form to fill in....

So I’ve just transferred a motorcycle into my name. All I needed was my passport and confirmation of address. Took the MC to the vehicle centre, they just checked engine and frame numbers against the book, handed over a receipt for the Thb fee of 1,700. Book was ready in a couple of days.
If your buying from a Thai, get them to help, it greases the process.

I doubt 3 months passbook is enough if they are checking the balance for the previous year
I always go back one full year, so it’s clear how much has been on deposit over time. Good point though.

Some good advise on this post. I would ask the landlord to verify the date stamped photos that you take, and give them a copy.
I would say, that having managed property rentals for expats whilst working here , I found the expat landlords to be as bad as the Thais.
Most are good and fair landlords but you always get the bad apples, and they will come up with extortionate prices to fix things and find all kinds of reasons not to agree the condition on move out.
not sure about the 2 months deposit. I thought only 1 month was allowed now, but could be wrong.
Anyway , good luck.
PS If it does go south at the end of the rental period, tell the landlord you are going to check if he / she has declared the income to the inland revenue folks. That sometimes stimulates them to be more reasonable.

I think the bars are permitted to open from Monday 1st February in Patts.

We have a safe deposit box with the SCB. I think first year was Thb 7,500 and beyond that about Thb 2,200 PA. There was no deposit required ( unless it was in the first years payment). Our bank is on Pattaya 2nd road, intersection with Pattaya Klang. You don’t say where you are. Could try them if convenient.
Must say Thb 500,000 seems a lot for a safe deposit box deposit, unless I’ve misunderstood your post. -
I would take the individual to a school, let them have some lessons then take and hopefully pass the test and get a licence. Then you can start to teach the rules of the road western style and engagement with traffic and other obstacles and junctions actually out on the road legally. Just my view.

I’ve got CCs from my home country, and I have a CC from my Thai bank. Use the home country cards seldom, and the Thai card as a matter of convenience for larger expenses, but always clear all at the end of the month.

All I can say is budget on the worst you can envisage, that way your portfolio is not twitching every time there’s a small negative impact. Good luck with the retirement plan.

Had something sent to me (letter)from the Midlands by tracked service at 4pm Monday, Thursday it was in Bangkok, Sat am its waiting for me to collect. 5 days !
I find that astonishing given the usual 10 day is normal experience
Guess this one was in the right place at the right time.
In contrast, an item sent from Australia on Jan 8th has just touched down in Bkk after 15 days.
That’s good. Last two pieces I received from the Uk took 3 weeks.

At least she had a helmet on.
I thought it was a Thb 5,000 fine and/or 3 months in jail for motorcyclists on the tollways. Seems to me she got off light. -

Here is my experience in doing my annual extension of stay based on retirement at the Chiang Rai Immigration. My extension is based on my original Non-Imm-O Visa. Usually my wife goes with me and I'm just there for the picture they take. I've never had any issues. This year I decided to see if there was any difference in service if I went alone. Here are the documents I prepared:
- Copy of my passport pages and the TM6 arrival/departure card
- Copy of both bank books. I have only 1 account but the first book was full and I needed a second. On the copies I highlighted the monthly transfers from the US since I use the income method.
- Original 1 year bank statement with monthly transfers from the US highlighted. I ordered the statement about 10 days early from Bangkok bank since it takes about 1 week to get.
- A letter from my bank stating that my account was still open and what my current balance is.
- Copy of the house registration and my wife's ID card since she is listed on the house registration. On the copy she wrote that I live at that we are married and that I live with her at that address. She also signed and dated the copy.
- Copy of my current 90 day report although I think that it was not needed.
- The original TM.7 application. Attached to the application is a Terms and Conditions form (STM.2) and a form stating that I acknowledge the penalties for overstay.
Yesterday morning (18 January) I went to the bank, updated my bankbook and got the letter stating that my account is open and what the current balance was.
I then went to Chiang Rai Immigration, arriving at 9:30. I received number 5. At about 9:35 they started calling numbers. They called 1,2 and 3 but only one person got up. Since there was only 1 window open I wondered why they called 3 numbers. I think numbers 1&2 were missing. They use and reuse paper numbers and my number 5 was pretty well beat up. At about 9:40 the first person was done. Number 4 was called and again nobody got up. My number 5 was called. I went to the window and handed in my stack of papers. The IO went through the bank statements and confirmed that I had my 12 monthly deposits. She then got her stamp and proceeded to stamp every page. The paper stack of paper was handed back to me and I had to sign every page. After handing back the papers she collected my 1900 baht, gave me a receipt and took my picture. I also had to sign another form which was in Thai. Not sure what it was. She told me to come back the next day to pick up my passport. I was on my way home at 9:50. The office in Chiang Rai is not the main office so they only collect and approve applications for extensions on Mondays and Wednesdays. The final approval signature is done by an IO from Mae Sai.
As usual, I found the staff at Chiang Rai Immigration to be polite (almost friendly), professional and efficient.
This morning I went back and picked up my passport and I'm good for another year.
Thanks for taking the time to post a positive report.

Maybe try him on vitamin B supplements. That helps in some cases like this. Certainly can’t hurt.

Find a paint/body shop that does repairs for insurers ( They will have proper finishing rooms, rather than spraying it in a shop front). I think the going rate for good quality paint is about Thb 2,000/panel. So assuming a good condition of bodywork and size of car I would expect anywhere between Thb 30 to 35 k.

I just trim off the faces of the block that have developed a little mold. Seems to be ok.

They should open legal casinos, but only allow entry to non Thais. Other countries run casinos on that basis. Obviously your passport would be your nationality identifier for entry, because as a foreigner you have to have one to get into Thailand. Will be a big hit with the Chinese when they return.

I would go to a hospital now. They have the equipment to do a thorough examination. Wouldn’t worry about COVID right now, as your immediate problem is your BP.

Yes, I think you're panic buying. Only thing that I recall running out during the lockdowns before was noodles, and that only lasted 2 days.

With threats like this you would think there would at least be a download link! How the <deleted> do you get this app?
Type into the App Store or google play “morchana”. Not rocket science.

I understand as of today (7th) you cannot leave the 5 eastern provinces without approval from the amphitheater. Not sure if there would be 14 day quarantine in Bang na and again when you arrive back in Chonburi. This is breaking news apparently.

You should be able to run a short cable from the router to the PC and switch off “WiFi” on the computer. That should improve the internet strength at the PC.
Vehicle Inspection every year after five years?
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
MCs are after 5 years, cars etc after 7, then every year after that. Pretty rudimentary check to be honest. I think you can tell that by the number of decrepit pickups that are on the road. Nothing like the British MOT test for sure.
