Motorbikes flout Pattaya’s one-way rule, locals demand action
Jaxxper replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Soi 5 Jomtien is one way also. Doesn’t stop cars and motorcycles heading up to 2nd road contrary to the one way regulations. Lack of policing is to blame. ie nobody seems to care. -
Take a look in Boonthawan (spelling ?) just past Home Pro as you are heading North on Sukhumvit just past the Klang tunnel. From memory they had a big range of kitchen taps in there.

What low/medium price wine do you recommend.

We always keep a bottle or two of the Laughing bird Red in the fridge. Not a bad drop for the money, if you want a change from beer. -
I use Bolt a couple of times a week. 95% of the time it’s fine. Occasionally I get a driver that wants more than the quoted App fare. I just cancel the ride and send negative feedback to the Bolt people. It’s not the extra Baht they are looking for it’s the principle of the thing. If you don’t want to drive at the App rates then don’t become a Bolt driver! I always give the driver a tip on top as they do provide a good alternate to the regular metered taxis.

I might have two 33Ml beers and drive , but that’s it. Any more and I’ll get a taxi. Not worth the problems if there’s an issue, even if it’s not your fault.

12 month bank statement
Jaxxper replied to CallumWK's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I do my immigration business at Jomtien, and from memory they wanted a 12 month statement first time about 4 “O”visa extensions ago. I thought at the time it was because I’d changed the passbook due to the one I had at the previous renewal being full. As a precaution though I now always get one with my letter required from the bank. IO seem happy with that. For Thb 100 it’s not worth having the dialogue with immigration, so I just include it with the passbook photocopies they want. -

An agent quoted 4-6 weeks. Seems in line with what info you have. -
Which one do you prefer more? Bolt or Grab

Yes, you can use cards now or indeed cash. -
Staffer pays the price for dine-and-dash at Phuket cafe
Jaxxper replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Our daughter worked in the US on a travel and work programme visa during university summer break. She indicated there, any breakages, dropped meals etc had to be paid for by the employee. I was stunned that happened in the US. I'm assuming it would be the same for dine and dash incidents. -
New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Jaxxper replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think this is just scaremongering. Each individuals tax position is specific to them. I agree you’ve got to pay tax somewhere, but not be taxed on money you’ve already been taxed on. I’m sure the requirements will be made clear as the tax filing date approaches. I don’t think the time for drastic moves is here yet. Just my view. -

So I trotted off to Soi 5 to update my TM 30 after a return from China about 6 weeks ago. The officer explained that if my visa status was the same and I resided at the same address in Thailand there was no need to update the TM30 after return from overseas. I’ve since extended my permission to stay and there were no problems. its obviously in the agents best interest financially to update the TM30 every time you return.

I reported to Jomtien 4 weeks ago to update my TM 30 after a trip out of Thailand. The officer said there was no need issue I was returning to the same address and hadn’t changed visa type. Again, I think that the agent in the original posters case was just trying to increase their revenue stream. I don’t know how CW deal with that, but I’d check at the IO that is being used. P.S. Thb 1,000 sounds like a lot of money for a TM 30.

I’d suspect the non return valve that is supposed to be fitted to the water delivery piping. If it’s old it may pass water ( particularly pumped water) back into the water main. I’d ask for the water board to come and check it out.

What's a reasonable price for a lady drink?
Jaxxper replied to TheFatOne's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Thb 150 in Pattaya bars is about the norm. Lowest I’ve seen recently is Thb 120, but have also seen some places charging Thb 160-180. ( No idea what they might cost in Go Go bars though. I would expect high end pricing, but can’t say.) -
From the OPs list I tip for massage and Bolt drivers, plus restaurants / bars if service is not included in the bill and housekeeping if I stay in a hotel. That’s it really. Various reasons for tipping, but mainly for providing reliable/attentive/quality service. Sometimes we forget that the “backstage” people play a role in our satisfaction as customers, and they are sometimes the hardest workers. Just my view.

A year ago I had my driving Licence renewed in Pattaya by an agent. He was getting very excited that I hadn’t updated my TM30 after several trips out of Thailand, so he insisted on updating it for me (no cost). Since then I made one recent trip out of Thailand and the immigration officer explained that they do not need a new TM30 if I’m returning to the same address. We’ll see if it’s a problem when I apply for my extension at the end of the month.
