Muang Thong Thani is where you will do the application.
Are you doing 90 day reports to immigration? If not you will not be able to get one.
Thanks ubonjoe and ThailandRyan. I am up to date on 90 day reports. Pity about the 2 week wait as I plan to rent a scooter in Koh Lantra over Xmas.

Thanks everyone.

I need a residence certificate for a driver’s licence. Should I go to Chaeng Wattana or Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok?

Has anybody bought a Tern folding bike from a dealer in Bangkok? The stores that say they sell Tern, when asked, say they do not keep stock. I do not want to buy online as I need to see the model before deciding. Any large dealers you know of in or near Bangkok?

Prior to being out of the country for 20 months you were living in Australia?
Or make short visits to Australia over a period of 5 years or more?
I lived permanently in Australia until January 2018, then moved to Bangkok. I told Centrelink I planned to return last April if COVID had not interupted flights.
-
Thanks. It helps. The web page says how to get a new Medicare card after living overseas for longer than 5 years. I have only been out of the country 20 months, I do not believe they should have taken it away.
-
Found out today that Centrelink has cancelled my Medicare card since they believe I am no longer living in Australia. How long does it take to get a new Medicare card when I return?
-
Thanks. I have two bank accounts, one for living expenses, the other to keep 800,000 baht permanently for my retirement visa. The living expenses one I told them about, not the 800,000 baht account.
-
I have two bank accounts in Thailand with the same bank. Centrelink in Australia has asked for details of my overseas accounts. Does the Australian government receive details of bank accounts in Thailand held by its citizens overseas?

When I moved to Thailand I assumed that either I paid cash for treatment, or I returned to Australia where it is free. There is a problem with this logic, so I found out. A couple of years ago I donated a kidney and now need 6-monthly check-ups at a hospital in Melbourne. Travel restrictions with COVID put paid to that plan. Also, while in Melbourne mid last year, I discussed having minor surgery, but first needed a scan. Several months later the hospital wrote with an appointment a couple weeks later. It would have cost me an arm and a leg to return to Melbourne for a 15-minute scan. Returning to Australia is not practical. Also, where would I live while I waited between appointments?

Still does not answer my question. The broker said she could not get me health insurance over age 75. Even an existing plan could not be renewed when I turn 76. What do other members do who are over 75?
-
35,000 baht/year.
-
I asked a broker to give me a quote for health insurance. At age 71 (today) it was 34,000 baht, although the policy contained items I have no interest in, such as repatriating my body, loss of travel documents, public liability,... When I asked how much for an 80yo the agent said coverage only possible up to age 75. What do other members plan to do about insurance, if it becomes compulsory, when they are over 75?
-
It was inexpensive, about 1200 baht.

I do not need drone insurance any longer. Flew the drone from the roof of my condo, it disappeared over the edge of the building never to be seen again.

I am not talking about extending Non-Im O when in Thailand, I am saying that when a person that already has a Non-Im O leaves and re-enters Thailand, he/she needs to show insurance cover.
-
Another friend on a retirement visa, O, until now stuck in the US, was required to show $100,000 insurance before the consul would issue him a certificate of entry.
-
My concern about insurance is that it is a complete rip off, conferring little benefit to the holder. Also, at age 71 I assume insurance will be expensive, and keep getting more expensive to the level where I am unable to afford it - since I am healthy and expect (hope) to live many more years. Sometime in the future I may need to leave LoS, which I will not want to do when I am 80+, if compulsory insurance was mandated.
-
A Thai friend wrote to Immigration for clarification on health insurance. Their reply was that while all retirement visa holders are now able to leave and re-enter Thailand, which includes current retirement visa holders temporarily unable to return, they must now have a health insurance, provided by a Thai company, to re-enter the country. In effect, all retirement visa holders must now have health insurance once they leave and re-enter the country.
-
Thanks for the replies. When I meet next I will ask him for more details. He went to Immigration on Monday to renew his visa.
-
Thanks everyone. I did not offer to contribute after a few hints and the subject was not raised again.

I have a retirement visa, although it does not say O, having obtained it in Bangkok 6 months ago. I assume it is an extension of stay. A friend today told me that when I go to renew it I now I must have medical insurance up to 100,000 baht. I thought this requirement was only for O-A visas?

Entry to Nong Khai by road
in COVID-19 Coronavirus

Planning to travel from Udon Thani to Nong Khai by road this Thursday. www.tatnews.org says I need to enter 14-day home quarantine in Nong Khai. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance.
