So my wife’s elderly widowed relative lives in her small bungalow type house that has a tiled roof. Around the tiled roof runs an old rusting metal rain gutter , that has numerous leaks. And those leaks go on to the outside concrete paths and are making floor surface slippy and dangerous to walk on. So my dear wife has asked me if I can take down the old metal rusting rain gutter, and replace it with some thing new. I have no problem in personally carrying out the rain gutter replacement work. I don’t want to spend very much money replacing the old metal rusting rain gutter, and I came across the past comment shown below ( thanks pib ) Just go get some large diameter blue PVC pipe, around 6 inches in diameter, cut it in half "long ways" and then you have two pieces of gutter that won't rust, lasts forever. Repeat procedure until you have enough gutter to go around the house...the longer the pipe the less joints you have to glue together. Use long screws to secure the pipe to the roof edge. Also use PVC pipe for downspouts. My mother-in-law's neighbor recently did this. I've seen other houses out in the provinces do this to partially put gutters around the house/just put it on problem spots...they don't even joint the half pieces with glue as they just over lap one pipe half onto the other with a slight slant of the entire pipe section....kinda like how concrete roof shingles overlap each other. PVC pipe used as gutter may not be aesthetically appealing to most, but it's definitely practical and long lasting. So I’m wondering if any one has tried the blue PVC water pipe method , as a rain gutter . Any thoughts or suggestions - very welcome . Thanks 🙏 . .

My wife went to the dentist - Not sure what to do next.

Thanks every one for your comments and suggestions . Not being involved with any thing to do with Thai dentistry for many years , I was shocked at the prices quoted , even more so when my wife commented that the local village dentist she went to , was overflowing with local village people wanting dental work carried out , at what appeared to be expensive procedures costs. The most practical option that the dentist recommended ( 15,000.00 Baht ) may be the way to go, but on hearing the 15,000.00 Baht charge, I had to put down my glass of cold Chang , and say to my self , you must be kidding. . My wife, bless her , said that she would be fine , just leaving the open gap where the missing tooth was. My reply to my wife was , you should be fine, just don't smile too much. . -

My Thai wife recently noticed that she had one tooth that felt loose , so she went to a local village dentists to see what they said. Now its many years since Ive been to any dentist , so I’m not really up to date with the latest options / procedures . The local dentists only opens 4.30 pm week days and 9 am – 4.30 pm at weekends. Its obvious that the dentists who runs the business, is working at a hospital some where. The dentist after examining my wife’s teeth , said the loose tooth had to be removed. After the loose tooth had been removed , the dentists recommended several options , as far as I can understand from my wife’s description , the options are…......... 1. Fit a single-tooth denture , this tooth has to be physically removed before going to sleep , and then put back after waking up. This type of tooth will show an area of metal ( cost 2,000.00 Baht ) 2. Fit a single-tooth denture , this tooth has to be physically removed before going to sleep , and then put back after waking up. This type of tooth will not show an area of metal ( cost 3,000.00 Baht ) 3. Fit a single-tooth denture , that will be anchored permanently in place , on both sides of the tooth ( cost 15,000.00 Baht ) 4. Teeth cleaning – 600 – 800 Baht . My wife told the dentist that she would think about which option may be best . I’m not sure about the above costs from the local village dentists , or if there may be other better options / procedures available. -- Any thoughts / suggestions please . Thanks.

Thanks, I'm planning to go and get the tax all ready taken statement from my Thai bank savings account ( as requested by my local tax office ) and then once Ive got that paper work , I will be going back to my local tax office ( there they said that they would fill every thing out on line for me ) and ask them to then process every thing . Its interesting that you were given a reference number to use next year . Just out of interest ( being nosey ) was the outcome of you filing your tax form in , what you had expected.

With what I know now and looking back Ive come to realize that Ive made some big mistakes along the way, 1. I should have not informed the UK pension department that I was moving to live in Thailand . Big mistake ( at the time I had fallen in love with a wonderful Thai woman and Thailand compared to my home country , was a paradise on earth where I wanted to live in for ever ) . 2. Wanting to be with the love of my life and live in Thailand as quick as possible, I sold my house and banked the cash . Big mistake ( I should have rented my house out which would have increased in value , plus the rent money that I would have received would have been a big bonus. ) 3. Building a house , so that my Thai wife could be near her parents. Big mistake ( I spent a lot of money building a house near where my wife's parents lived out in the country side . 6 months after building the house so my wife could live near her parents , her parents decided to sell their house and move to another far off part of Thailand. ) 4. I decided to take out a private health care insurance policy that would cover me for any inpatient medical treatment . Big mistake ( I should have just saved the monthly private health insurance money in a saving account )

Ive always been a worrier and add to that curse my genetic knee jerk reaction to always get things done quickly. A few weeks ago I received in the post at my home, a '' are you still alive '' form , that the UK pension department sent me . They want to confirm that I'm still alive and should they keep paying my pension money , yet another thing to worry about , and here's me thinking that retiring to Thailand would offer a paradise stress free life style ( don't get me started about private health care options 🙄 )

Hi , after reading all of the comments and advice posted here to my original question , it seems that due to my small UK state pension ( which is my only income being transferred to my Bangkok Bank account from the UK ) even if I do fill out the tax form I would not be taxed. So in my mind I'm thinking ....is it better to be safe than sorry.

Hi and thanks, what I wanted to do was to make sure that I filled the forms out correctly as they are all worded in Thai , and my Thai wife did not understand many of the questions on the forms. So I decided to seek help and ask at my local tax office , who were very helpful . Ive attached the tax forms in question.

As British citizens we must remember that our wonderful government needs the money generated by not paying full pensions to people who have paid into the system all their working life and who decided to retire in another country , so the government can help with hotel accommodation costs for the increasing flood of illegal immigrants .🛶 .

Many thanks, I just went into town to do some shopping and called into the small government tax office ( staffed by 3 people ) . I handed over the tax form that I had received in the post at my house, and asked the lady sitting at the desk , what do I have to do about this form , and showed her my Tax ID card. The lady said that she could complete the form online , but she also said that to fully submit all the information , she would need to see a recent up to date tax claim form from my Thai savings bank ( Krungsri ) . Once the local tax office lady had the up to date tax claim form , she could then process and complete the required tax form for me. I asked the tax lady , as my UK state pension is being paid directly into my Bangkok Bank account , do I need to go to that Bangkok Bank and request some sort of paperwork confirming how much I receive for my UK state pension , and then give that paperwork to her. The tax lady said No.
