  1. An expanded immigration office - more staff and larger premises.

Less foreigners so the current immigration office (which was already extended a couple years ago) suffices.

Can't have a beach "and" less foreigners, a beach could only raise the amount of foreigners here, which would make immigration even worse.sad.png not forgetting the Russian influx !

Whoops ! replied before reading it all and repeated someone else...blink.png

  3. This is a little unfair. And maybe some mix-up going on. She has boyfriends, as she should as a healthy 23 year old, but isn't all over the place. One if the genuinely nice people in the area, actually.

And no, the only interaction I've had was being served a beverage and having a chat.

On and On is hookers only.

If she ain't working the bar, they wouldn't let her in the door.

You sound like the "font of knowledge." I shall be following your posts in future if I want to find out exactly whats going on around here and "who is what."

You sound as if you have either been in Chiang Mai for two minutes or you have been severely fleeced by a woman which seems to have left you a little bitter and twisted, either way, your comments sound <deleted>.....

And by the way, just because many people "know" who someone is, (not hard around Chiang Mai) doesn't mean that they have all used and abused her / him.

Get a grip or should I say, "get a life."

I`ve read your post and I`ve read our TommoPhysicist`s post.

As for credibility, my money`s on our TommoPhysicist and you`re the one who sounds all bitter and twisted, because at least he has no need to use abusive language in order to make his point.

Coming from someone who seems to be "forever" trying to offend people on the forum I don't even think your opinion deserves much of a response.

  5. Not exactly Miss Worlds at the old one are they!!!

They are from Khon Kaen if you like that look. Personally I don't find that (and the Ubon Rachathani look) very appealing. But to each their own.

I agree, it's a horrible look. Makes you wonder why folks from Khon Kaen or Kalasin don't all wear paper bags over their head.

(BTW, for anyone else, no need to rush to either location, she left a long time ago.)

But you could try On On bar in moonmuang Soi 2....rolleyes.gif

  6. Well I never take the missis to Loi Kroh road, but after the first visit to the new Number 1, I would be more than happy to take her (and will take her.)

The staff I saw waitressing were two staff that I knew and one new "guy" that I did not, and two cashiers, (one male and one female) that I knew.

It seems that they are not trying to make girls available as there were only two serving and they could not afford to loose them anyway.

The customers I saw (of which I didn't recognise anyone from the old places) were a big table of Thai's three or four Thai / western couples, a few with young children, also a young western couple.

The place is definately a world away from the one in Loi Kroh and if you ask me is definately aimed at a different market.

In summary, certainly a place I would say that couples / families would feel very comfortable to go to.

Well I dunno, you seem very pro and defensive. tongue.png

Defensive ? no. Pro ? sure. Credit where credit is due, it is a lot better than I expected and I am just trying to pass on my opinion to those who are too worried to go because they think it could feel like a brass house. (which it most certainly will not.)

  8. Does the new place have hookers and bar fines? Or is this a more legit sort of place?

If they have a load of new girls it might be worth a look.

I have a feeling (but don't know for sure) that they will try and go for the Thai Market as well, which would mean having actually pretty waitresses/beer girls. Needless to say, that would be epic.

It would if it were all at Thai prices, but I suspect that won't be the case.

Why wouldn't it be at Thai prices; we're in Thailand? Compare for example with Tha Nam restaurant just up the road from Number 1; that's about as Thai as you can possibly get, and is about the same price, if not more.

Note to all: The phrase "Thai prices" doesn't actually indicate a specific price level. You have low-end, mid range and high-end in Thailand, regardless of the apparent target nationality. Number 1 I'd call mid range, just like almost any other pub/restaurant you'd care to mention. (Good View, Tha Nam, etc.) Then there are a small number of high-end places, and a billion low-end ones. EIther way, 'Thai prices' isn't a thing.

    Well said....

  9. Just walk across the street to the Wild Boar - full English breakfast for 120B. Not a buffet but bet it fills you up - and they know how to cook eggs.

This message brought to you by a happy customer.

I will "second" that. Great breakfast there, infact all the food there I have tried is awesome. Cheap too to boot !!

  10. Oh dear I think you have missed my point or I did not explain myself very well.My Thai wife and I love going to restaurants with our friends.50% farang and 50% Thai. All I am saying is that it would be nice to have a choice of something other than Thai food. Yes I am in Thailand and eat Thai food every day.It is nice to go out with my wife and friends and have a choice.

The place has a different feel to the other place in town. Much more chilled out (as advertised) 90 baht for a large Leo which is not bad at all.

I saw a big hamburger getting served so they are doing western food, I am not sure how much yet.

Two "american style" pool tables, (the ones that I can actually pot a ball on !)

Waitresses are waitresses and not pushy. It seems to be aimed at (and is attracting) couples, families and also Thai's, there were a fair few there when I was there.

A good place, but not really for the single guy. If thats what you are you would be better off sticking to the obvious places.

  11. re .. Welcome to the Chiang Mai Forum, where food is a serious topic

and so it should be : )

    dave2

I recognise this sunday roast, Sweetheart bar I think??

You must be a detective. biggrin.png

It says Sweetheart bar 195 Baht 24 July 11... if you put your cursor over the picture.

Yes , and if I didn't run my cursor over the picture?? smart arse..

  12. What have i started!!! - i was only looking for a good traditional roast, which i found, and now we have a slagging match.

    Dissapointed Newbie!

Keep watching, the maturity on this forum will amaze you.....

  13. Doubleeight I am sure you are new to Chiang Mai.This is a lovely city to live in.So many decent restaurants and bars to enjoy what ever you want.I think it is out of order to knock bars/restaurants and people on this forum.Maybe you should look at your own expectations of what you what. Please remember that this is not USA/AUS/ or Europe.

He is stating his opinion based on his experience in a place, what has the fact that it is not USA etc got to do with that??

  14. Personally I have to give THE PUB the thumbs up for Sunday Roasts

Just like my Mum used to make it.

    Outstanding

    I second that.

A real man size traditional English roast, Yorkshire puddings, baked potatoes, mint sauce, lashings of gravey and everything, for around 250 baht. I really don`t know how the owner does it for that price.

Last time I was there, there was a choice of lamb, pork and beef. I think they also do turkey on special occasions.

The portions are BIG and the only thing I found skimpy were the waitresses hot pants, but no one ever complains about that.

    http://thepubchiangmai.com/

One thing about the "Pub" is that it feels like your walking into someones front room without an invite...

"He's not from round these parts is he! "

  15. I really like Archer's Sunday roast beef dinner. They used to be a little stingy with the portions, but from some recent pictures on Thai Visa, it looks like they have remedied that. thumbsup.gif

Archer's 'small' Sunday roast dinner according to dave2

If that is the small one i would hate to try the big !! this one would keep me going for a few days as it is ...

  16. The weird apart about getting assistance after an accident from a Thai here is that they would expect to be paid later on for rendering the assistance or driving you to the hospital. Something that would be an obvious favor in many other countries.

Agreed, and seen it happen too.... I have also seen a foreigner helping a Thai and saw the other way round, the Thai tries to make the foreigner responsible.... (hope it's not the whole population though)

Mind you. I have heard it happen thai on thai to....

  17. re .. Chiang Mai Pure Honey have plenty of medicinal honey. They are located on Chang Klan road

here .. about 400 yards to the left of burger king : )

    dave2

To the left if you are facing Burger King to the right if your back is to it.

As for the medicinal values I know nothing. I buy Bee pollen there. I have Diabetes and I read that honey is worse for my blood sugar level so I avoid it.

And no I don't know what the medicinal value of the Bee Pollen is. I just believed a friend who said it was a help to good health,

Ok so I stood facing Burger king and went left for 400 M and I ended up at the Duan tawan hotel??

  18. Link below shows most of bicycle shops in Chiang Mai.

    http://maps.google.c...006899&t=m&z=17

If by "ordinary bikes" you mean road bikes, then your best bet for a good selection of bikes is Chaitawat, near the SE corner of the moat as mentioned above, and Jacky which has a bigger selection of road bikes.

I'd stay away from Tesco, Big C, etc because most of what they sell is junk and they will have very few, if any, road bikes.

If you want the biggest selection, you should go to the huge bike shop in Pasang where they have hundreds of bikes on display.

So where is Pasang then??? how far from CM city any directions??

  19. Thx for the input guys, I have also found a stockist now.

If anyone should be interested, it can be bought in a tub of about 500 G in the pharmacy on the right hand side (as you go down) between Loi Kroh soi 2 & 3. Helpful Chinese (y) woman there seems to stock everything. 65 Baht. a tub.

  20. If it is available I never found it after searching for a few weeks for a TV member in Isaan.

The most obvious place to go was YOK inter, everything for drinks and cakes etc, but they neither had dextrose or glucose., and the staff thought it was all the same as the fructose they do sell.

In the end my friend found a website where he actually ordered direct, I can put you intouch with the TV member if you wish.

not sure what you need the dextrose for, I used to use it when I was an athlete,in tablet form and you can probably still get it from the likes of Boots and Watsons,....it was very effective for me, turned me into speedy gonzales for an hour or so.

good luck, hope someone does know where to get it locally.

I want to use it in post workout shakes, I have been using electrolyte powders found in any pharmacy but I want to cut out the other stuff, ie sodium etc. Not so bad really but was looking for a more pure form.
