  1. Was thinking about doing the Air Asia visa run CM to KL to get a 30 day stamp. Seems there is a return flight with a 2.5 hour stay there.

Seems possible to me that it can be done in a day, although I don't know how crowded the immigration gets there.. Has anyone done this trip and returned on the same day recently? Was it easy or skin of the teeth job.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  2. Point 2 shouldn't be in there. Been doing that for 20 years, no issue.

The OP was talking about going out to different bars.

If you sit in the same bar in "Soi Old Man" (Moon Muang Soi 2) everytime you go out, then they already know that they will earn out of you and won't bother trying to rip you off..

  3. NO COMPARISON

PP is good for a visit but to live there would be a stretch for me I will say the visa process is easy and you can work there without any issue you just get a business visa on entry $25 I think it was then you go to any travel agent and pay $250 for the year for a multiple entry work visa, lots of bar restaurant foreign owners etc. Prices about the same as CM. traffic insane.

CM is way ahead of PP in every way except the visa situation

Less dick 'eads in PP... Chiang Mai is swamped with them..

Oh yeah, and the local beer in PP is vastly superior to Thai beer... Anchor (not Ankor)

  4. Just a quick word on the headline...

I don't think 'short time stay' means what you think it means...

    whistling.gif

? I think it's perfectly clear? Typical holiday stay in Chiang Mai, couple of nights, then move on.

He's not speaking Chinese is he?

Well i instantly thought that he was talking about "Short time " Hotels aswell... and I would have thought the majority of people who read it probably did also..

  5. Well, an easy walk from Pantip Plaza will get you to Porn's barbershop. A real sweet gal, with passable English, who has her own shop, two chairs, but just her working there. I've had to wait a few times, but usually just with one customer already in the chair. Happy with her haircuts -- never had anything else, but she does do ear and nose trims, manicure, and I've seen a customer getting a shave (didn't notice whether or not there were hot towels). Turns on the air conditioner for farangs.

From Panthip Plaza, just walk towards the moat on Sridonchai, turn right (towards Mae Ping hotel) on Khampangdin, and about 50 yds after you turn, on your right, is an indentation from the road -- and her barbershop. And, that indentation functions as a two-car parking lot as well. Open on Wednesdays too.

    Highly recommended.

I have been using this lady for 5 years now, very polite, not usually busy, and the shaves are good, but warn her and give her time to heat the water.

    Hair - 100 baht

    Shave - 100 baht

Infact the menu says that everything is 100 baht...

  6. Try the "20 baht" shops. The open air shops that sell all sorts of stuff. There is one just South of Ghecko bar on the left as you go down.

They sell what are basically food containers with screw on lids but some of them are quite a size, at least 20 litres i'd say.

  7. There is a "newish" company run by an English guy in Loi Kroh Soi 1 named "Soi 1 bikes" he does monthly rental and is anal about his service to customers. Good insurance, all new bikes. I know a few guys who repeatably rent from him when they come over. (There is a website "Soi 1 bikes" )

  8. I have noticed an increase in membership at Fitness Thailand, young Thai's and farang who hog equipment while talking to their tee rak on the phone or just gas bag with other farang and seem put off when asked if they have finished with the equipment.

Would be great to see some money put into Fitness Thailand though would make a good gym better, btw I am no expert, I am happy with what I use there but there could be some improvements made

As a former California member I have been searching / trying a few gyms around.

Fitness Thailand could be great, However !!

They have lots of good equipment which require "free weight plates" to operate, but seems to only have enough weight plates to cater for about 10 % of the equipment.

I went at 14:00hrs and wasn't busy, but was still searchung around to find the plates. I should imagine it would be very annoying if it was even a little more busy.

Wouldn't take a lot of money to kit the place out with a whole lot more weight plates.

Anyway, I shall not be using it again for that one reason.

  9. nothing wrong with the location for a local pub for people who live 2 minutes from there and dont want a full on night out just a few beers and watch the footie or sports

Good news, not that It will mean anything to me as it is not my area, but i have always thought that there should be some more local pubs closer to residential areas.

Lets hope more appear in other areas, (especially with the drink driving crack downs)

  10. I paid 23,500 USD in BWT in 2006. The dog owners (or the people feeding them, but denying owning them) were my biggest complaint. Then the fee was 250 THB. I wouldn't touch it again with a barge pole. Local scene around there now gets about a 2, on a scale of 1-10. With the extra money you will spend on a car, or heaven forbid taxis, you could buy a condo in a much more convenient location. Couldn't get out of Riverside fast enough in 2004, and haven't been back on the premises since. If it wouldn't rent for 1% of purchase price per month, don't go near it. I didn't mind paying for the pool, and the jet noise wasn't too bad.

The local scene is better since the Dog and Bone opened and is a pretty busy place just up the road from BWT good food good company and a nice place to hang out very close to BWT and great since you dont have to go into town to have a beer

Whats the Dog and Bone then?

Local bar near HD road 7-11. Used to be a pizza restaurant.

    Any good?

  13. I have rented a few places in a few different parts of Thailand (Including Chiang mai before) I have always had to sign for a years contract but after the initial year it has been on open with a 30 day notice.

I recently moved into a new house and they want me to sign a contract every year. Now I fully agree with the first year as they need commitment, but I liked the fact that once that year is up you are free to then look around if you want to with no obligation either way. Whats the chances of finding something that you want at the exact time of your contract expiry?

Whats other peoples experience of this? it it usual? are there any legal rules about this subject?

    Would be interested to know.

Lastly, it isn't a "Farang" thing as I was away and it is all in a Thai' s name.
