Termite control chemicals -- non-toxic ?
JuanMatus posted a topic in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
I was wondering if there are termite control chemicals that were used in your house in Thailand that folks found to be non-toxic. If so, the names of company and/or chemicals used would be appreciated. I see that EU countries are very strict about this topic. The reason is that I have a lot of herbs growing in the garden and a few fruit trees and do not want to use too many chemicals around the house for termite control. -
another great review. It seems that the problem is with the engineering at these companies rather than manufacturing at various countries!

This is one of the most comprehensive links that discusses how most brands are basically a few brands with different labels... enjoy

The point that seems to have escaped is that it cannot be power supply as these issues exists in so-called 1st world countries... that's all. Look at the LG lawsuit link i posted
-
Thanks for your feedback.
-
Ok, theoritically power supply could be a problem, but if you look at FIRST world country blogs (Singapore, USA), you will see exactly identical complaints on LG/Samsung/Hitachi. Also, there is another lawsuit in 2024 on LG fridge after 2018 (see my old post), and, it's safe to state that Bay area doesn't suffer from power-supply malaise.

ok, 16 years is akin to comparing life-expectancy in 19th century to 2024. Will all the junk food and antibiotics etc, there is no comparision. Hence, I requested to comment on fridge bought within the last 5 years. After looking at local Thai, US, and Singapore blogs... LG/Samsung/Hitachi are rubbish. I have seen good reviews on Mitsubishi. Now, I am seeing positive reviews on Hisense... yep! Am seriously considering Hisense as it's far cheaper and cheaper to fix in case of issues. Trying to understand the best compromise solution. I am gravitating towards Panasonic also.

Here is info about NEW lawsuit about LG fridge... 2024!

Will be going to the store on Monday to look at it. In the interim, I will be googling heck of a lot after VPN-ing to Vietnam, Singapore, Aus etc. That way, I should get a good flavor of what to expect. So far, in SG folks were bitching about LG/Samsung/Hitachi as being "junk". What's sad is that (sorry to sound a bit conspiracy theorist) most of these corporations hv been hijacked by Private Equity or are being run by folks who came from that mindset! For eg: Boeing (my ex-employer) used to be fantastic when I was new outta college. Since 1990s, it's being run by Jack Welch (GE boss) cronies who were into profilts. On youtube, look at how PE is raping our land and slowly the entire world... all to make a billions.. folks be damned! There are numerous sites that discuss this issue. I am more into local optimization.

yes, but, based on cursory research, its not owned by these mega-corps.

Hello: I was considering SubZero brand refrigerator. Yes, it's considered "luxury" brand and has amazingly good reviews. Instead of spending about 30 to 35 KBaht, I'd be spending close to 80 kBaht. Question: Given that sadly now-a-days the LG/Samsung/Hitachi/etc are rubbish in US-made/Thai-made, I was considering SubZero as it lasts close to 20 yrs . Feel free to comment and specify model number if you bought a fridge in the LAST FIVE YEARS and had NO PROBLEMS yet! Thanks for your effort. I am open to normal brands still !
-
Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at US and Singapore sites. ALL are cussing almost all brands. Sadly, Samsung, LG, Toshiba, Sharp, Kenmore, Frigidare are ALL bad. Another youtube had a brilliant video where he showed that almost all these are now subsumed in a very few corporations. For eg: Beko now owns Kenmore etc. Even Bosch got gobbled up by another corp. Singaporeans are complaining that their fridge are made in Thailand and are useless. It seems that manufacturing/QC is bad in US & Thailand LOL Now, Panasonic is built in Vietnam and am researching if those folks are bitching about it. Also, SubZero seems to be an impeccable brand, albeit a luxury brand, and there is a store in BKK that sells it. Will look into both. I can't imagine throwing away 30000 baht every 3 years!ridiculous!

It seems things were far better ten or more years ago. I haven't seen any good comment on LG/Samsung/Hitachi fridge that were bought in the last 5 or less yeqrs... i am seriously considering getting Panasonic (Comes from Japan) or Mitsubishi.
-
Hi.. I was used to infaliable LG fridge in US and mine went out (compressor) in 3 years! Now, after reading blogs, I will avoid LG and Samsung. Also, Hitachi seems to be hit/miss. Given that I need a 18cuft (560plus Liters) fridge... I was looking for input about Mitsubishi fridge. Also, I would appreciate specific model number recommendations if somebody bought a fridge in the last FIVE years and it has been problem-free. Additionally, based on my experience, it seems that HomePro has the best customer service. Feel free to comment

Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
JuanMatus replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I see responses from Europe region. What about US pensioners who pay taxes to US govt on every nickel they earn! I was told by a friend that US has a treaty to not tax their citizens in other countries as they pay taxes in their homeland! Is that true? -
Per Diem & Travel Writeoff for Contract Job in USA
JuanMatus replied to JuanMatus's topic in Offshore Workers Forum
I forgot to add.... I can be a 1099 contractor and NOT a W2 person. If the only advantage is air-travel, then, I'd rather be a W2 employee. On the other hand, if I can get per-diem while I am there, I am all in! If someone has done this, I would appreciate a referral to a document or mention the per-diem amount they were allowed and the tax year this feature was implemented. -
I am retired and living in Bangkok. I have an offer for contract work between 6 months up to a year in USA. Question: Can I get per-diem while I am on the job in US, and, if so, what is the maximum/minimum duration I have to be in US... and write-off the airtravel? I would appreciate if someone has been through this. Thanks.

Apparently, in this land, even if a dog kills someone, there's no automatic euthanization conducted by a govt agency! Strange.. isn't it!! So... a dog's life is more valuable than people !huh! Also, no provision to sue the owner of the dog either if it's not yours. This is seriously nuts and actually scares me. FYI: I'd owned dogs many decades in US, but, I always felt that pit bulls and Dobermans should be banned.

The REAL EV vehicle discussion thread.....
JuanMatus replied to transam's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
EVs will become just one-of-the-options as Fuel Cell vehicles will become a reality within 5 years. Already, Toyota Mirai and Honda (??i forgot) are available in California and some other states. Also, airplane manufacturers are working on Fuel Cell aircrafts! ie, there is feverish effort to jump to Fuel Cell transport. -
Hello... There is no info on Volvo safety/reliability made in Malaysia and sold in Thailand. Question: If you own one or know someone who owns it, I would appreciate some feedback here including Year/Normal or Hybrid/etc info provided. Thanks, Juan (Retired & from Los Angeles)
