  1. A 15-year old kid of an Australian guy at my condo got bitten in the south as well. Nobody did anything so he bought Gofen at the pharmacy and a lot of sausages at the 7/11. After a few days the dogs had all vanished from the beach and the locals wondered what happened to the numerous dogs. He still laughs about it.

I was always told when speaking to anyone of authority to speak in English, Police, IO, Judge, etc. Not sure if this is true but someone told me a judge could take it as insulting if you speak to them in Thai as you can be indirectly saying they are not intelligent enough to speak english. Likely just hearsay though.

I tend to Wai a lot and speak english very quickly, seems to work at checkpoints around here often enough.

My wife told me not to wai around, due to being farang and in a good position I'm not supposed to wai first, except to clearly elderly and respectable people. So her parents get the automatic wai but even if I meet someone in high position in Thailand I do not wai. It is of course pleasant and polite, but also shows that you are in "lesser position." Thais are ok with that generally and like to talk English to me, and shake hands with me (I dont like that though.) Would never wai an IO as some people here suggest. But, since I don't understand the culture properly, just ordered a book from Amazon explaining these kind of cultural interactions from the Thai perspective. Maybe I learn that I do something wrong/off from it..

I first visited Thailand in 1984 and have been a regular visitor sine 1999.

Not once have I ever seen an IO smile or say welcome to Thailand when he's checked my passport and visa. Not once on what must be around 50 occasions!

I fly in-out approximately 12 times a year from Swampy. During my 6 years of traveling here, I can remember being warmly welcomed 5 times by male IOs. And during my first trips I asked a female IO out for a date (before the coup, when things were more relaxed.) I was not successful with the IO but instead went to dinner with a young security guard .. lady. But 85% of the time they give you the cold stone-face. Some grumpy Tomboy-IOs give the 'I hate you' face, but whatever.

The UK and Europe is much more enlightened than my country- USA- there is no provision for doing such a thing . The UK has had Nation Health since the 30s-  the USA has nothing except the higest medical costs in the World and not necessarily the best.

People working in Thailand that cannot get Thai Social Security really need to contribute to their own countries scheme and If American- you best make  big money if you plan on staying in Thailand as a digital nomad because you will not get US Social Security.

I fully understand why some people want to live in Thailand and work online- the living is easy and prices still reasonable- but for long term- you are wasting your best earning years making way below your worth.

I really like the last sentence. 'You are wasting your best earning ears making way below your worth' , just amend with '.. if you work in Thailand.' I keep wondering why so many people waste their careers here as teachers and what not. That's the age to make money, build the capital you can later live of (if you want to live in Thailand later.)

Yeah, it's totally understandable....I would be jealous too. But it seems a bit childish when "there is a lot of hate" towards people working online here in the forum, if that's true. I would have thought people would be a bit more mature/courteous and respond to posts without the bias.

There is a lot of jealousy because there are people who are really struggling / have no savings / have made the tough decision to build their life here, and have very different backgroudns. The rule goes not to tell others if you have money, or if you are a Digital Nomad. And don't tell that to your gf/wife either, although you can easily find a loyal and money saving (!) wife in Thailand as well :)

jealousy to start with.  imagine how you look to someone who works 12 hours a day to make 8 dollars?

Agree. At my condo I can see many sour expat faces when they see me sometimes working online outside in the condo complex (I'm not a digital nomad but work mostly out of office from all around the world.) I see them going to work at 7 AM and coming back 12 hours later, through the hellish traffic of BKK, and with a teacher's salary that is hard to live on. Some older ones just don't get the concept of remote work.

I assure you that he is getting visa exempts, because I specifically inquired about that (I did not believe it when he told me, but he showed me the passport stamps). He truly believes it is his "charming demeanor" (direct quote) that is allowing him to pull it off. I have warned him he is one IO away from denial. The point is that CNX does appear to be a little more "forgiving" than DMK or BKK.

I had this "unique charm", too, and was able to charm my way to 10-14 VE per year between 2014-2017 until I got my NON-O ME based on marriage in my home country. Now, thinking about it, I think the rules were more relaxed back then but was having really good luck at the time. Dumb luck ???? Maybe that is a phase we have when moving here, until we get thrown out or come to our senses ????

I myself have a Non-O based on Child and been pulled aside by immigration when I entered by flight at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Immigration officer (female) went through my passport for 10 minutes. Puffing away and clearly upset without saying a word. As the queue grew behind me she called a supervisor and I was taken away.

Was seated with an older much nicer immigration lady who asked me all sorts of questions such as: You work here? How you make your money to stay with your daughter? It was quite upsetting as I have the correct Visa and clearly not a tourist. Am not looking like a retired person as still in my early 40's.

Only when I pulled out the medical records of my daughter suffering from Leukemia Cancer and is stationed at Chlua Hospital I was allowed to enter and no further questions were asked. Needless to say. I have since then avoided entering that airport like the plague although in my situation not entirely possible to stay away. Just hate flying in through Suvarnabhumi. Only ever take immigration queues with male officers. LOL

They have some kind of huff and puff syndrome at Suvarnabhumi, the female officers. Wife tries to explain they have low salary but they have power, so they try to compensate the former with the latter. Last time I came to Swampy with wife and kid, the Tomboy in charge did not huff and puff but tried to look stern, cool and whatever. My wife commented that they do the same in my country, look tough, ask stupid questions. True. Still they dont huff and puff in my country.

It seems the OP is having comprehension difficulties.

How many more people have to tell you that you most likely will not be let back in through any airport! - They are very strict lately.

Land crossings, if you choose the right one, are generally easier - but not always guaranteed, especially if you have been travelling back and forth to Thailand for the last 3 years.

Read the advice given by UbonJoe and Elviajera, study it, then follow it - no need for any more questions.

Give him a break, he is Swedish ????????

    I am from Sweden #

I guessed on page 1 that you were either from Germany or Sweden. The 'Willkommenskultur' in Germany or the 'Mitt land är ditt land' in Sweden make them think this is one big open world where you can do whatever you want, and since those countries have no punishments for immigration violations, well you don't need to bother much.

Just to highlight the difference to Germany and Sweden - explanations and excuses don't count here, this is not our country or ideology, just run to the nearest airport exit and be happy to get out with only a fine. Good luck ????

    3. You only need to show $700 to apply for the non-o visa. The $1500 is only if a family is applying for visas  and is not applicable to you since you will be the only member of your family applying for a visa.

Slightly off-topic but the Thai embassy in my country in the Nordics no longer requires a bank statement when I applied for the Non-O multiple entry this month, no financial proof of whatever. Last year they still required. They only required an official certificate that our marriage has (also) been registered in my country (married in Thailand a few years ago) and the usual copy-of-wife-passport, flight ticket, mugshot and the fee in cash :) They also check the PNR of your ticket to verify you did not just book-and-cancel the flight ticket.

I have a hard time believing this post. But if true, you don't have emergency credit card for backup ? I always have a least 2 back up cards, stored separate from my wallet, and have the account numbers written down for extra security. As you are posting this, you must have a computer, and or mobile phone. Do what many have suggested, sell what ever you have, call your mom to send money via Western Union. Get yourself home ASAP, and stay there until you learn to be more responsible.

Or marry a rich Thai woman who walks beside you. It's called a walking ATM.
