Oh wow. If this comes to my country, I will buy Elite Visa. Great. 500 000 THB wasted. The Non-O ME is so practical for anyone working abroad, visiting family once a month.

For most of us, our currency is down almost 50% in 15 years since we first got the taste of Thailand. Explain what we do not understand what you talking about. Another 30% will put my lifestyle on my limits, since I now manage to save 30% at the moment!
+1 He misses the point on inflation vs currency fluctuation. Two different things,

I planned to move to Thailand in 2013. The following year I realized there is no security in terms of law, government or much anything. So I kept the house in my home country, and ever since spend only half of the calendar year in Thailand with my family. Did not move my financial assets to this country, lost interest in buying car or house here, a condo is enough. Since nothing is protected, then why move your assets and life here? Always have an escape plan and a home in your own country.
If I did not have family I would not come here except maybe to have a short romance here and then (sorry, besides the temples the only thing I see would consider interesting in Thailand if single.) Instead, I would perhaps move to Spain, Portugal and consider buying a condo in Da Nang, Vn. This country is not interesting. Bad traffic, bad air, bad English, cannot find the idyllic naive small village by the sea I would like to live in. I still enjoy my life here, and have a good life without worries or problems. Even since 2013, this country has changed a lot. People are less friendly, <removed>

These endless threads about being denied entry and 'rogue' IOs 'misusing' laws and section 12.x .. 'All I ever did was having 1234 visa exempts and 3212 Tourist Visas. I have spent all my time in Thailand for the last 1234 years. This is outrageous! I'm just a tourist!!'
Imagine a Thai guy coming to YOUR country with endless Tourist Visas and spending most of his time in your country :D 'But I contribute significantly to the Your-Country-GDP. Where is the thanks?!?'
If you are not a tourist, the IO has all the right to deny entry, dear 'tourist' with 1231 VEs. Marry your girl or get a job or get an Elite Visa, I guess those are the options. And if you want to play with fire, get the Education Visa, although they are now strangling out the fake ED visas.

Up to you.
Like pissing into the wind. For me as a non-native English speaker, Deposit and Income have a different meaning. I can understand their point. But what am I to say, just keep on fighting ????

the discussion should focus on the compact of immigration signed in marakesh 111219 and to be accepted in february 19. the pact gurantees basic human rights for expats as well legally am i right.

Hardly any of us wants that treaty signed for our own countries. If Thailand signed it, the country would be overrun by Chinese, Indian and what else. Hardly what we would like Thailand to transform into?

Why can't more farangs understand this simple fact? Never welcome, less welcome now. Case closed, end of discussion.
I think the Thais just raised standards, they don't welcome everyone anymore.

Naah, I can imagine some them elected spokepersons making a lot of theatre, especially if the 'union' is run by some Pattaya Men with their shady appearance. May make 'us' look worse than we actually are.

If you are a single man traveling; Tattoos. Looks trashy, especially old tattoos, smart casual no longer helps with them. Mai bpen rai clothing. Flip flops.

I often wonder how they live here. They must be very wealthy or have inherited money to be able to stay here for long periods without working. I think many of them perhaps have saved up a bit of money and try to stay here as long as possible to avoid doing an honest days work. Naturally Thailand is not very keen on these type of tourists.
Or, work like crazy during your best years, do not buy the BMW and don't waste your money on alcohol and pleasure. Instead, put your money into the stock market, and let the dividends snowball and roll ???? Capital income! Don't burn your savings.

According to the published rules, even if entering with a Non O visa, immigration can ask to see 20,000 baht equivalent in cash (or travellers' checks). In practice, this rarely happens.
Thanks. Maybe we should open a competition for the first Non-O to be asked to show the money ????

I assume they are concerned that immigration will deny you entry for not having the financial proof needed.
For a visa exempt entry it is the equivalent of 10k baht in cash. For a visa entry it is the equivalent of 20k baht in cash. It can be in any exchangeable currency or baht.
What if you have an NON-O ('marriage visa'), do you need to have any cash on you? I have never been asked during my VE or my current NON-O when entering the country by air at Swampy.

How so?
If they do a simple bank transaction query 'X-Outlaw Foreigner Bank Move' or whatever funny they name it, they will bypass anything you have moved from your private offshore account to your Thai account. If the money comes from a customer to your Thai account, the whole thing changes as the 1st recipient country of the payment is now in Thailand. Taxable. Work permits needed.
I guess they don't do it atm, but it's rather simple to do, and most western countries already do this by routine.
-
1. Keep a low profile (don't brag if you earn a lot and life is easy)
2. Keep money flowing from your offshore account to your Thai account (not directly to your Thai account)
3. Have a good cover story such as .. well there are many. But essentially the key is to prevent anyone from 'exposing' you to the authorities like ex gf's etc.
4. Don't trust the law. The law can be bent so you never know if you are on the safe side.
or.. just get a work permit I guess.

Does anyone think, like me, that it's just some jealous self important person who thinks/believes that no-one should earn more than they do because they have a nice uniform?
I remember a good few years ago my wife was filling out a form in an office and she was required to fill in her salary figure. The female officer checked it and pushed it back saying 'don't be silly dear, it asks for monthly salary, not yearly' I had to leave quickly because I didn't want to be a witness to the reaction from my wife.
Same thing when I married my wife at the amphur We first got the lazy treatment ('another stupid Thai woman marrying a farang.. yawn'). Did not believe she could earn an annual seven figure number and said to my wife that decimals should be rounded up. Their service attitude totally changed after that. Money = respect in Thailand.

A farang director in IT should earn a minimum of 200K, up to 400K. Seriously not sure if you misunderstood and the person was trying to say that your salary is too low.
No sarcasm.

Perhaps there are other factors involved with the people who claim to have been denied. Perhaps they are not revealing the whole truth.
I think this is very true and a key for your success in Thailand. The perception and treatment you receive is based on how you look and act - the same as in your home country. With low class language, crappy clothes and visible tattoos you are automatically put into a category by most people in your country and also in Thailand. Sometimes I wonder with other 'farangs' why so many people have so many problems in Thailand, while we have none. We came up with the conclusion that it's mostly based on your own behavior which reflects back. Even if you are 'so handsome' by the Thai ladies, it wears off due to bad language, low class behavior, drinking, and so forth. You end up with the divorces, the IO problems, the income issues. So, each of us have 'personal experiences, not hearsay', and we all believe to be right ?

I have read something related to 180 days in the country but I don't remember right now.
If you make quick visits of less than 30 days to Thailand under the VEE, are they below immigration radar?'
I traveled for 4.5 years mainly with VE, and hardly had any issues. Once the IO warned me about the 180d limit, but he still let me through. My visits were mostly 2 weeks in TH, 2 weeks abroad in Europe, so clearly not someone working illegally. Still I got myself approx 4 TV during the 4th year as I was getting cautious. I think one key issue that saved me from trouble was 1) I mostly used the priority lane immigration flying business and 2) I always dress up well and have no tattoos, flip flops, Singha T-shirts or other 'landmarks'.
I traveled on VE from 2014 to 2018; but now I have NON-O. My flight frequency was mostly about 1 in-out flight a month.

There is no written limit on visa exempt entries by air.
The embassy in my home country in Europe said otherwise. 'Only 2 entries also through airports'. I knew this was BS but the young embassy lady said 'we have it written on a paper on the wall here'.
'Im sure you know it better' I said as I was applying for my marriage visa and did not feel the need to convince her otherwise (she had just seen my passport full of biweekly entry/exit at Suvarnabhumi for 3 years, but was more convinced of the 'paper on the wall'). I hope nothing has changed regarding the VE, but happy not to use them anymore ?

I traveled with VEs for four and a half years from my home country (in Europe) to Thailand, once, sometimes even twice a month, staying between 7 and 21 days approx. Only once did the IO tell me that I need a visa, I have stayed for too long in the country (over 180 days in a year I guess), so I got me a few tourist visas. Just last month I finally got myself the multiple entry marriage visa, so no more 'excitement' at the immigration. I think never using the land borders, not staying for 'too long' at a time and perhaps traveling mostly in business and using the Premium Lane immiration, made them wave me through. The embassy in my home country, after looking at my thoroughly stamped passport, said I would definitely not be let in with a VE anymore. Traveled a full year with VEs only after that comment ?

I thought I'd settle there with my family (Thai wife and kid) in maybe 5 years, but somehow I feel that we should settle in my home country - cold but happy and functional. Luckily I own a house in my home country, have all my assets here, and only a condo in Bkk. And my wife is ok to move here. I don't want to live like many of you people, on the edge, with flimsy rules changing all the time. No matter if I can afford the Elite Visa, I feel more and more uneasy about Thailand, its lawlessness and lack of any real development. The countries around Thailand are evolving though, but I don't want to learn yet another language. Maybe it's better to just live here and take vacations in Thailand (would prefer Vietnam but the wife is Thai ???? ) I feel sorry for the guys who cannot afford Elite but have to travel to work back to their home country, like me. This is kind of a deal breaker for me. If they don't want me there, I'm happy to pull out ????
