  1. Ok, so as previously posted after waiting four weeks we rang around and found one in stock. Had it for a week now and no real complaints. Other than the rims and maybe a sports bar for the tray it will remain pretty much stock. Drives well and is amazingly quite and smooth for a truck, on a good road at 100k plus all you hear is silence

While I like the look, I'm not altogether satisfied that the rims were a good idea

  2. You'll find that Thailand is a far less developed country than the ones you mention, so it's hardly surprising that the police force and other institutions don't come up to Western standards.

What exactly are these western standards you place on such a high pedestal?

Police in the US routinely murder and assault citizens with little comeback.

Police in Australia lie, perjure themselves in court and fabricate evidence. It happens all the time.

Read this and tell me you would have faith in any Australian cop.

  3. I saw pictures of many with M16s and saw one photo of a participant wearing a bandoleer stocked with 00 buckshot. Firing 00 buck is like firing more than a half dozen 30 calibre slugs at your target, in a semi-random pattern; a bit indiscriminate, don't you think?

I don't want to be argumentative but but how can you identify a shot shell load from a photo of someone wearing a bandolier?

  4. I use talking Thai from paiboon publishing.

Has a speaking Thai and English function for pronunciation and both phonetic and Thai script entries with the English definitions.

A bit expensive but good.t want it on that

What sort of gadget do you run it on? Last time I checked there were no plans for an Apple version. I'm not buying any more

stuff from a discriminatory outfit like Paiboon, unless they make an Apple version.

Runs on my iPad and iPhone.

Yeah. Got this on my iPhone (it is great!), but needed something on the mac to refer to when typing text messages on my phone!

Use an emulator? I think paiboon has a pc version as well

  6. If Ecuadorian staff wanted to escort him to airport, he justs gets in their car and they drive. Diplomatic immunity covers the embassy's vehicle. Similarly, diplomats can park badly in the host country, as long the vehicle has diplomatic tags, there are no repercussions.

But at some point he has to get out of the car. The airport is not Equador, being escorted does not give him immunity.

They could go on the train or a ferry to France...

  7. Isn't India scam central as well? You would think they would be street savvy enough to not rent anything in Thailand. The Falangs who help the scammers anger me more then the scammers for some reason. I doubt they are as protected as they think they are since they are easily replaceable.

    Probably all tourist police volunteers.

  8. It seems that not long ago, there would be a small brigade of people defending Phuket in a thread like this. However, the same passion to defend it doesn't appear in this thread. Those past defenders appeared to be foreigners who had business interests there (and would understandably want people to think well of Phuket). Does the the lack of defensive comments indicate that those business people have given up trying to redeem Phuket's reputation, moved away from Phuket (maybe to Chiang Mai), or are now in agreement that Phuket really is a dangerous place?

After 15 years in Thailand - 12 of them in Phuket - enough is enough. I have returned to the UK where it is colder, more expensive (just) and a politically correct mess, BUT it is civilised, law abiding and safe. My whole family feel comfortable and not threatened here. When Burma opens up I may try again in SE Asia.

Law abiding and safe......that whole riot thing was just a misunderstanding was it?

  9. Meanwhile in Sydney there were 3 fatal hit and runs in a week and a mall security guard was killed by 3 scumbags who have spent their entire life on welfare.

Hans who was 68 and worked for 18 dollars an hour was kicked to death in a major shopping mall at 9pm when he attempted to stop them from breaking into a Wendy's kiosk.

But yes Phuket seems very bad.
