  1. Many thanks, we are moving into a house tomorrow which ticks all the boxes........15000 THB a month mate.
  2. Myself and my good Thai lady were recently married in Melbourne while she was on holdays. This marriage plus and Aussie bank account will enable her to access a certain percentage of my Defence Forces Retirement Pension once I die. I told her she needs to keep me upright and breathing for 3 years at least to qualify, anyway this is what I want for her. So the Aussie marriage was planned and beneficial for both of us. We are now living together in her home in CM whilst she teaches during the week and I relax and look after the house and dog. My question is; are there any advantage/s for me in travelling down to BKK to have this marriage registered/recognized in Thailand other than the marriage extension which of course I'm not on nor interested in. Cheers
  3. I am looking for a 1 story 3 bedroom house to rent in an area where my wife can easily access her work in Nong Hoi....she drives her own car. I do have a 12 yr old Jack X dog who arrived in CM recently and won't let me out of his sight probably due to his ordeal travelling from MEL to CM and this is currently leaving me house bound. I go through the local rentals daily and now have an idea of areas good for my wife's travel but my ability to communicate with agents is limited because I can't speak Thai yet. It is hard to involve my wife during the week as she teaches at a private school so needs to do her job and when she gets home hardly has the energy to help. I do have accommodation in my wife's house which is situated in a Thai village not far from CM train station....while here I could never own a car as the Sois are too narrow...if so myself and dog could be mobile. And because of myself and dog being present we do need more space. If the advice is get a motor cycle forget it as at 69 yrs old not about to start now. Okay long story short......anyone know any real estate agents who could assist? Am I going about my search the wrong way? Cheers, I am appealing to your local combined knowledge on the subject. Brian.
  4. Same in Melbourne on Ebay; once was enough.....got my trusty Panasonic wet/dry tuned up for Thailand and use genuine Mach 3s for going out.
  5. The entrance to Queen Sirikit botanical gardens gives free entrance to old man farang as well.
  6. My wife is exact opposite.....maybe because she is a teacher of lower grades that make lots of chatter. She craves the quiet.
  7. So if I extend beyond my initial 3 months on the marriage visa and go on a retirement extension no need for any form of registration right?
  8. I was recently married to my Thai fiancee in Melbourne who has since returned to resume her teaching job up North. I will enter Thailand shortly on a 3 month marriage visa; I have heard but can't find any direction if my Australian marriage needs any form of recognition in Thailand i.e. registration. I will consider once in Thailand whether to extend the marriage extension or change it to retirement as reading many stories of the retirement extension is much easier to process through immigration.
  9. Many thanks for the response here; unfortunately my bank being ING will no longer do out of country transfers.
  10. I have just done a test run of using both Remitly and XE currency from Melbourne to my fiancees Bangkok Bank in Chiangmai to see if those transactions were noted as being transferred from a foreign source or words to that effect. Both entries stated "Transferred From Another Bank". Is there someone who can recommend a way of transferring into a Thai Bank which would show that the money is being transferred from outside Thailand ? I intend either using a Marriage or Retirement Extension showing either 40K or 65k each month rather that tying up 400k or 800k in the Bank. Cheers Mate.
  11. My fiancee lives in a Thai village in CM; small house with only 1 aircon in a small bedroom......my Rough Coat JR X has recently been feeling the heat in my Melbourne home when we had a run of 30s so I want to have him live with us in CM with a similar level of comfort. My ideal is to live with us in her home until I can find a pet friendly rental with more space, garden and aircon.
  12. I am looking at taking my 11 year old terrier(slowing down a lot now) to CM this year from Melbourne AU. Am in the situation where no family members will take him or anyone else for that matter so my committment is to remain with him until he dies or I do. Are there any people on this forum who have transported a dog (not on the young side) from Australia to CM. I have a health check set up for him on Tuesday where fitness to travel and vaccinations will be discussed. If the Vet considers he has a few years left he will be with me and my fiancee in ThaSala CM until more suitable accommodation can be found.
