  1. Prior to my visit last week to Udon Thani Immigration I downloaded a copy of the recent police order dated 21st December 2018, together with the English translation from the Immigration depts. website.

I was wanting to extend my stay based on being married to a Thai utilising the income method which in 2.18 of that police notice states a minimum monthly average of 40,000 baht.  So as I receive a UK state pension every 4 weeks and then consequently remitted to my Thai bank, and also in receipt of two private pensions paid quarterly , again on receipt submitted to my Thai bank, I thought all would be well as all these transfers were included on the bank statement provided.

How wrong could I be.  Udon Immigration refused to accept that my combined pensions were when averaged amounting to well over 40 k per month and they were insistant that they do not accept an average income, only that a minimum 40 k must be shown for every month.  Even when speaking to the Senior IO there and then subsequently a further officer based in Khon Kaen whom they contacted on my behalf, they were adamant that they would not accept "averaged" figures and hence my application for an extension was declined.

So this highlights that either a)  The IO can not grasp what average means, which I doubt to be the case,  b) They are not following the guidelines, or perhaps c) The literal English translation posted by them is incorrect, a point my wife seems to suggest based on her own interpretation of the Thai language police order.

Have others members encountered similar issues either in Udon Thani or elsewhere specifically relating to an extension based on marriage utilising the monthly income method ?

I answered that question in post #2 when I quoted the police order.

"In case the father of mother requests to be under maintenance of children, the age of father or mother must be 50 years of age or over."

Guess then we need some person(s) to attempt to go this route as no financial requirements is stated for the children maintaining their parent in order to set a precedence.

    Is that a joke?

When I arrived in Bangkok I worked for a few months for a Rotary member (with lots of certificates on his wall). He cheated me and others. Over time I met other Rotary members from his and other clubs. He is well known and it seems he cheats about everybody. So I asked the other members why he is still in Rotary. Why do they allow a guy like him to ruin the name of that club? From many members I didn't get an answer. One member told me something similar to: There are so many crooks in Thai rotary. The many crooks won't throw out one of them.

This might be an exception in Bangkok. But I wouldn't bet on it. At least personally I don't trust people only because they are part of some club with a good name.

Well I thought that all of these "do gooder" clubs were only in it for their own benefit and ego.   Seems like you have now learned nothing ever changes, only the faces.

That is only required for retirement. Not needed when applying for the visa based upon marriage.

    See: https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_79

For the avoidance of doubt, when applying for a further extension of stay based on marriage, is a) the 400,000 baht seasoned funds  required to have originated from overseas and thus shown as a foreign transfer or not ?,  and b) when applying for a further extension of stay based on marriage and the income method,  is the 40,000 baht monthly transfer an average monthly transfer  ? and are these transfers required to have originated from overseas and thus shown in the bank statements as a foreign transfer ?

    never again .

Same with me. The end of the line came when they outsourced their customer service to India, which become almost useless after then.  Then a short while after it was found that this Indian business partner, or one of its employees, was into fraud big time https://www.theguardian.com/money/2006/jun/28/business.accounts

So from a major company it has diminished into a bank that has partners whose employees act fraudulently not forgetting of course the bank itself was a convicted money launderer https://www.reuters.com/article/us-hsbc-probe/hsbc-to-pay-1-9-billion-u-s-fine-in-money-laundering-case-idUSBRE8BA05M20121211

I use my late father in law's angle grinder. Think it is about 30 years old, electric cable is the old rubber type. Still going strong but had to fit new brushes a couple of years ago, it is a Makita.

He was a builder, died aged 76 in 2011. Some real old carpentry tools in his box, seen some use but still in good working condition.

The reason I asked is that the thread is about items bought in Thailand and their longevity. However perhaps where they are made has more to do as to how long they last rather than the country they were purchased in. With respect to the angle grinder, and I have one similar (I checked it and it is made in China) , they are not made in Thailand as they don't appear to have a manufacturing unit here..

Unlucky that. I got my angle grinder from Big C 10 years ago and have used it a lot ( mans best friend ) and still working. Earlier this year smoke came out of it and it quit on me. Opened it up and noticed two wires touching so a short. Re wired it and good to go ( minus guard which dropped off a few years ago.

What make is the angle grinder ?

I have a couple of UK bank accounts and a couple of Thai ones ,if i buy anything online i always use the Thai cards ,far easier , regularaly do online banking using the card reader (one is nationwide) they have been informing us for ages about the changes coming ,due to the new EU rulings ,why did you not read them ? they are on the start page ,anyway there is a lot of contraversy at the moment because so many people in the UK do not have a mobile phone ,but the rules do seem to say that you can have codes sent to an e mail ,this would be ok because even if you have a thai sim it will just come to your e mail address.

Thanks for that info saying it was a new EU ruling.  My Smile bank did not specify what prompted the changes, only that it was new regulation. From a practical point of view it seems a good idea as I never ever carried the card reader around with me, whereas receiving an SMS or email on my phone I carry always seems more convenient.

The topic, I believe, the Nationwide Building Society not the Coop Bank!

Correct but if you read my post and clearly understood it, which you apparently didn't. I was quoting an example that the Coop Smile bank is withdrawing card readers due to forthcoming changes in regulation.   Trying to help you is clearly a waste of time and frankly if you bank with Nationwide and that gives you problems then based on your responses to helpful posts you downright deserve it, call it Karma.  ????

Interesting info. For sure the card readers have been around for at least 12 years,

But, thus far Nationwide have not indicated that they will be withdrawing them. We shall have to wait and see. Let's not add yet another layer of speculation!

I was not speculating, just stating a fact that the Coop bank are withdrawing card readers. But still if you still don't understand the difference pls read below fyi

"We're smile. ... Soon, you'll be sent a verification code by text message or email to confirm your ... Read more about how we were the first UK internet bank."

To use the app, you’ll need to be registered for online banking and know your login details. If you are not already registered for online banking, you can easily register once you’ve downloaded the app.

Once you’ve downloaded the app you’ll be prompted to enter your online banking:

    • Username
    • Password
    • 6-digit online banking security code

Next we’ll send you a verification code. You can choose for this to be sent to the mobile phone number or email address you have registered with us. You’ll then be prompted to enter the verification code. Never share this code with anyone.

Please note – the code you receive will be valid for one hour. If your code expires or you haven’t received it, you can request for us to resend it to your chosen device.

Once we’ve verified your identity we will ask you to create a 6-digit passnumber.

First of all @Oxx this is not Nationwide lunacy, as you call it, at all. These are new security standards that being imposed on all UK banking institutes in order to reduce fraud. Particularly on-line fraud.

If you don't have card reader, then order one now. They are still free, as far as I know, and that will resolve your on-line banking issue.

As far as the on-line purchases are  concerned, if 'Verified by Visa' blocks a purchase, you can send a secure message to NBS and ask them to have the system bypassed. They can see on their system that you attempted the transaction and can inhibit the system for that transaction.

And I know this is true, because I've already done once it on a Lazada purchase, just to prove the point. Sure, I realize that it slows things down a bit, It's quite rare that a transaction must be made right now!

Learn to live with it, Oxx, because ranting about it isn't going to change anything.

Card readers are being phased out apparently.  The Cooperative's bank, SMILE internet banking arm have had card readers for donkey years. Around 2 months ago they notified everybody "that in line with many companies, and to be compliant with forthcoming regulation changes" card readers were to be phased out and any purchase will require you to enter a verification code (same as Thai banks do) that can be only be sent to a UK phone number or, importantly, via email.  The latter option no doubt being the most useful to overseas customers.

yes aware of that. There have been many contradictions in the various TW feedback posts. The  very reason I posted my update.

And a further update is that this morning I did a further transfer that arrived in my Bangkok bank account this afternoon denoted as an international transfer. Maybe the "tagging" on my account to direct it directly into BKB by TW will continue hopefully.

    Thus far I have read only page 1 of this thread ;

So,- I hope that I am not being tautologous by suggesting that ur funds arrive to u directly as "cashier's cheque / check" in foreign currency that matches the foreign currency deposit account which u would have opened prior at Thai bank.

I presume that the overseas cashier's cheque / check will be recorded as foreign transfer transaction.

Think you need to read all the thread before making assumptions

You'd think with all the communications between TW and clients transferring to Thailand, someone would instruct all the employees "For transfers to Thailand, if it's to Bangkok Bank use our BKK partner. If it's to Kasikorn, use our KK partner. If it's to TMB use our TMB partner.

If it's to any other bank use any partner branch.

Save them a fortune in labour costs dealing with e-mails and telephone calls.

That's logical but their customer services is not based in the UK so hence may be employing people who have little concept of logic.

In various related threads and posts people have been told by TW their future transfers have been tagged to go thru Bangkok Bank....no need to call again.  But some of their transfers still did not get the International Transfer coding because they were routed thru K-bank or TMB.   Like TW has said....no 100% guarantee.

Fully aware of that hence my question "wonder if it will continue". Tomorrow I will test the system again with a further transfer.
