  1. I know what the current rules are, but where is it stated by immigration that after Jan 1st they will continue to accept letters (in the old format) that do not confirm the embassy has validated the income?

Wrong question. Your looking at it backwards

The fact they havnt announced anything means nothing has changed

They are totally excepting income letters.. It's the brits and the USA that are the ONLY 2 EMBASSIES that pulled the pin

For the rest it's business as usual

    Nothing changed at TI !!

  2. There are some nice new apartments around the corner from me, 2,000bht/month + utils, minimum 6 months rental.
New bed, mattress, wardrobe, table, fridge, fan, free wifi, small balcony, parking. No aircon or TV.
Swimming pool around the corner for 40bht/swim.
Food courts in the road outside from 30bht/meal, 7-11 within 100 meters.
All you need is a bicycle or scooter to get you out and about.

No need to spend a lot of money in Thailand, I could easily live there if I didn't already have a house.
    Nice for 2k bahahaha [emoji16][emoji108][emoji16][emoji106][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
Thanks for the extended belly laugh.
  3. “The suspicious targets are the dark-skinned people. First, we search their bodies, then we search their passports,”

i believe this is a big discrimination and colored people should boycott thailand and dont visit here then.
bc this is a total racial abuse.
think about it, you walk around a touristic area (lets say Nana area as an example) as a colored person among many white guys and they just come and search your body and nothign for white guys.
authorities, please go check white guys too. there are more visa offenders among them i believe!
such move just damage reputation of peaceful Thailand and nothing else.

Good lord how nieve can you possibly be. Every black man around Nana is pushing heroine or meth.

One of my favorite bars in between soi 5 and 7 had a sign up "we do not serve the black man here" sadly the whole area was demolished

    I loved that place [emoji16]

  4. Garden project! Cool, my thumbs have never been green. My wife likes gardening. I watch her. She tells me things about plants sometimes. I listen and say "yes dear" which seems to satisfy her to some extent. Later, I take her into my cave and ravage her. She seems to like that as well. There must be some connection between my lack of interest in gardening and her insatiable sexual appetite in bed.

Anyway, I agree the weather is nice now. I am playing guitar in my computer room, or maybe even my office...when work needs to be done. We are all in this together folks, hot weather, cold weather and Bruce Willis. Lets make the best of it aye. No need for the complainin, I aint needin no explainin, I gotta a piece, you wronged my neice and we're all monks in trainin.

    Cheese.
Dude to much information about screwing your wife! Nobody Braggs about a wife screw.

  5. I personally think the economy and banking system is in such bad shape contrary to what the current gov. claims this is just a way to shore them up by getting 800K or 400K baht from many many foreigners on the books.
Immigration is propping up the banks and the economy now
Men in black are propping up the baht
Money launderes are propping up the real estate sector
    TAT are propping up tourism

The total nonsense never stops. You would have thought this house of cards would have collapsed 50 years ago

  6. Because every Embassy is in the same position.
Thai Immigration want the Embassies to 'verify' the income being declared.
Other than 'state pensions' paid by the Government they cannot 'verify' income from private institutions.
Your statement, as in an 'affidavit' or 'stat dec' does not 'verify' your income.

You don't know the actual wording. It's not like TI will storm an embassy demanding an audit.
If an embassy feels its legally in the clear it will continue the same process.

It's more than a coincidence that the 2 biggest western embassies have been targeted.

Where are the others? Where they even contacted?

    Nobody knows for certain
We do know that nothing is ever evenly uniform in Thailand
  7. I think some people will find themselves on the wrong side of these requirments  simply because they used their retirement bulk money to BUY a condo to reduce their overheads. Now they face being sent home with the loss of their assets or sold at a reduced price.

It will be a buyers market - NOT a sellers
    As you said "some people"
    Hardly constitutes a market thrashing.

Sadly the ones that may be leaving are living in 4k fan rooms on Pattayas dark side.

You might get lucky and pick up a 300k room for 200k on the outskirts of chiang mai... Enjoy!

  8.     I went to the Bangkok Bank the Silom branch about 2 years ago and they completely refused to let me open an account and after much polite discussion they asked for an embassy letter of approval that I could open a bank account.  I asked that they show me such a letter and the banker had a big plastic binder book of forms and did show me one.  I don't know if the permission letter will be effected by these changes.  I could not make heads not tails of what the letter was actually saying but the banker liked to file and keep them in her big plastic binder book.
I had Thai friends that wanted to help by 'fixing' things for me but I am sick of this way of living.

The banker was showing you how to word the embassy letter. Just doing his job
I had the same but still managed to open an account at 2 banks, BKK bank and thanachart without anything but a tourist visa

Dress nice, tell them you want to transfer money for a condo purchase.. Use your imagination. Honestly if you give up at this minor hurdle I doubt very much you will succeed in Mexico either
  9.     It has gotten harder and harder to open a bank account here in TH.  My older friends that have been here years have accounts but I was turned down by several banks and even the Bangkok Bank which has done my friends said ,"NO!"   They asked for an embassy letter.   ROFL!  Oh my!  The Bangkok Bank had a New York City branch which made it easier to get around US laws that make it impossible to transfer more than 10K without being reported to the US govt.  I heard Bangkok Bank is closing the New York branch.  It seems the govt. would like our money but they haven't told the banks.  And the banks don't seem to want it.  Thai friends have agreed to take me to the bank and clear the way but it all seems like that will only solve the problem until they come up with the next retirement visa change.  I wonder when they will go back to the discussions demanding mandatory medical insurance proof or purchase?  Again, I have health insurance but can you imagine the hassle of getting the various forms that would be required.
I have more than enough income but I am tired of the hoop jumping.  Other retirement countries don't do all of this nonsense.  The various groups that rank international retirement living have moved Thailand down in the ranks again and again.  From a top 5 ranking years ago, to the last time I looked they fell below 15 and the immigration and ease of residency requirement score was 61 pts.  D- if you remember your school grading system.
In any case, I concur with most thaivisa forum members posting here that are starting their plans to leave.  I enjoyed it. My friends are great and I will miss them, but time to head elsewhere for a fun life.  Mexico ranks number 1 right now on most of the surveys for foreign retirement living.  My retirement visa expires soon and when it does I am not renewing.  Maybe short jaunts I will miss old friends but no more living here the winter months of the year.
Change that immigration motto from Good Guys in Bad guys Out to "We pissed off the good guys and we will continue to fight with the bad guys!"

If anything it just gets easier if your genuine. According to Q and A from USA you will be able to just [emoji124] walk into immigration with bank book and they would be up to date on this .. No more travelling to the embassy and forking out 50 bucks, a really hassle for those living a long way away

So you go to the embassy once and then open a bank account.. Your done!

I'm not getting your grief. Did I miss something?
  10. The agents are already under scrutiny with some being arrested and charged in Bangkok.
Don't jump off the ship just yet because this does not involve the Australian Embassy as the procedure there is different to the UK and the USA.
The oz embassy still has their announcement up saying they will not be changing their stat dec system regardless of the brits stopping theirs.

Either they were never asked for proof or they were and decided it legally didn't apply to them. Can't be anything else

  11. Many comment on this topic is from a lot of people who don't understand the joy of cycling . maybe they sit in their cars and armchairs . cycling is for those who want to exercise their heart and body is low impact so no damage to the knees .
the heat in this country is no problem as you create your own wind .is only when you stop it gets hot.
The poor man who got killed is tragic . the main is the driver being a coward and doing a runner .
I cycle 45 minutes per day in bangkok

In an air condition gym over looking the lovelies by the pool

Zero chance of being run over by a bus which is a big bonus [emoji16]
  12. Strangely enough Blackhorse, those of us who are cyclists dont see it that way at all. I consider cycling in Thailand reasonably safe even compared to the UK. I cover 22,000+ km (plus) every year and over the past 10 years have not had any problems. Dopn't spread the message here that cycling is crazy or unsafe or whatever because that is simply not true. In context Motorcycling has way way more fatalities each year as do motorists. Indeed, someone once said that more pedestrians die on the roads here each year than cyclists. Perhaps you would suggest not walking?
    Depends where you live
Cycling down a country Rd in isaan is not the same as bangkok phuket or pattaya.

    Where do you live?
  13. How long until the Australian embassy's news flash ?
From the oz embassy website. Maybe the oz ambassador has a compromising pic of BJ So they are exempt

"We understand that the British Embassy in Bangkok will no longer be providing British nationals with letters confirming their income from 1 January 2019.

The Australian Embassy does not issue income letters. Our notarial services include the witnessing of Australian statutory declarations for Australian citizens, or for use in Australia. This process remains unchanged."
