Norwegian on way to see Thai girlfriend arrested after faking his Certificate of Entry

Thailand's immigration bureau reported that they arrested a Norwegian man with a fake certificate of entry (CoE) at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The man presented the document to officers at the illustration desk at the airport but they immediately became suspicious.

A subsequent check with the Royal Thai Embassy in Oslo showed that the document was a fake.

It looked official with a stamp and said that he would be arriving from Norway on the 16th of January and quarantining under the Alternative State Quarantine program at a hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 57.

The man was in Thailand on his way to see his Thai girlfriend but was handed over to the airport police instead.

The IB website also reported on the arrests of Singaporean and Pakistan nationals who had entered Thailand illegally. They were picked up on the biometrics system after being questioned on the fourth floor departure area at Suvarnabhumi.

They also reported on three drugs busts involving methamphetamine and cocaine.

Any CoE, Visa etc issued by a Thai Embassy in any country would be automatically entered on the system. Therefore soon as you enter Thailand and go to the Immigration desk on arrival Passport Number entered and all the details would show up.

Easy to spot someone trying to use fake documents

  2. This is only being proposed by the developers of those condos that were built the last 5 years and overpriced.

Too many developers have had their fingers burnt by over building thinking farang will keep coming back into Thailand.

Dream for them is dead, so now come up with this....the Govt will give the go ahead.

But in the end, not many will take up.

Why buy an overpriced condo, just for a Visa?

So much loss and thousands of retirees that wish they can come home. This government is crying with a mouth full of bread. Be smart, let them come back.

All the retirees that left Thailand this year for what ever reason and can not return, are at home....Thailand is just a retirees holiday home.

Thai govt not in any rush to allow old people back due to the fact Covid kills very old people so why should they let them back.

Such a shame this has happened this year, but in reality the Thai Govt over the last few years just not interested in having old people living in Thailand.

Blame, blame, blame. It was caused by anything but us. Without Covid, Thailand was heading toward a disastrous high season. Hotels at 50% occupancy, at a time when they are usually nearly full. So, Pipat. You need to admit what an utter failure you have been as tourism minister. You are an empty suit.

These issues and problems were becoming apparent long before Covid. And none were being addressed. Tourism had been declining for years already. The numbers were up. But the quality of tourist was way down. And according to everyone I spoke to last year, the year before and the year before that, income was way, way down. So, "this blame it all on Covid scenario" is somewhat disengenuous. Sure, Covid is huge. And the drop now is stunning. But, my point is there were plenty of issues prior to Covid. And are any of them being addressed?

Again, this is a situation where nobody is attempting to get to the root of the problem. Of course, in Thai society, it is not particularly popular to look within for the source of the problem.

The source of the declining tourist sector over the past 3 years before covid, easy to work out.

High Bht...made almost everything expensive. Yes could get a Hotel deal that seemed cheap and taxi rides (if you could get an honest driver) was ok, but shopping and eating out was so expensive.

Many expats i know are struggling big time and even the foreign business owners are in trouble.

Now the question is; Who will blink first? Thai Govt or the departure of the Expats and Foreign Business owners?

  5. No one will dare fly long hail these days.

Who wants to wear a mask for 13 hours on a flight from Europe to anywhere.

I have flown all around Europe on many flights during the last 2 months and hated wearing a mask even for 2 hours or 2 and half hours.

Most flights had pax that would take them off and constant flight crew advising if they were unwilling to wear the flight would be diverted and they would be offloaded with return with that airline cancelled with no refund.

Tourism is just not going to happen in Thailand or anywhere else if people have to wear a mask on the aircraft.

    Lets be real about this.

Farang food has never been cheap. Thai food that actually tastes good is hard to find, but still affordable. In general having a western lifestyle here is, excluding housing, IMHO about 2x as costly as in the west. Import taxes, price gouging, etc, etc. And it's still not up to par in quality.

If you go native, it's alright.

Eat native?? Like eat 40 bht food off the street sellers and eat what appears and tastes ok at the time but in fact is food contaminated by the food seller not washing their hands and the pollution from the thousands of cars passing by.

Yes i have had very dodgy tummies when i first came to Thailand and tried to go native.

In the thai restaurants most are clean and very good....but you do pay the extra...Pad Thai with Chicken can cost 100 to 140 in the smaller thai places. But as all you are aware you tend to eat 4 times maybe if out late in the evening a 5th time....therefore at least on a cheap day 600 bht and thats without your large bottle of Chang or Leo.

Best thai restaurant...opp Robinson Silom and Saphan Taskin BTS

Palate Bar and Restaurant....roof top bar as well... amazing place amazing service...not too expensive for the food....but taste the food you will be going back there for sure lots

Do you know the words "work" and "work-permit"?

And have you ever heard of business visa?

Now if you combine that knowledge with reading my comments then you should figure out that I work here and have a business visa which is not the same as a tourist.

Please don't comment on here if you don't know what you are talking about and don't assume things which you don't know.

Even if you have 'work permit' or 'business visa' it is just a visa. The thai govt can revoke at anytime so yes you still are a 'tourist' in Thailand.

You are not a resident therefore only live temporary in Thailand....please remember that.

You sound like an intelligent person so please observe who you are....just a farang without any rights what so ever in your temporary country of choice.

I am not a tourist in Thailand but sometimes I am a tourist in other countries.

Obviously from the point of view of tourists, me included, it's nice when everything is easy. Visa on arrival, stay for a long time, no conditions, perfect.

But I don't blame countries when they think about what they want and if they have certain conditions. I.e. the health insurance. We read often enough about people who can't pay their hospital bills. And GoFundMe requests for paying hospital bills. Hospitals are often expensive and they want to get paid for their services. Who pays?

Every tourist has the choice to think where he wants to go on holiday, compare visa regulations, etc. Select the country which is suitable for you.

And in case you live here then you are not really a tourist so you should have a visa to live here long term.

And last but not least: Thailand is easy compared to many other countries. Let a Thai person apply for a visa to Europe or the USA, etc. That is a lot more difficult and often impossible because "back home" governments make it clear who they want and who they don't want.

    Actually you are a tourist.

Maybe you have lived in Thailand 15 years with a retirement visa, but you are classed by the Thai Govt and Immigration as an just a long stay tourist.

Each year you have to do the paperwork and have money in bank to obtain your visa....but they could just say no and off you go leave the country.

Please dont comment on here as thou you was born in Thailand. Always refer to yourself as a tourist when trying to comment or advise fellow forum members.

    Thanks

Yeah, stuck. I'm getting serious cabin fever, usually I exited Thailand every 1-2 months to retain some sort of sanity, dealing with Thais for extended periods is bad for the mental health. As soon as the quarantines stop...

Why are you living in Thailand if you need to escape every 1 - 2 months??

Another expat moaning...my god why dont you find another place in the world to live.

Just because you don't want to go home and enjoyed a free ride so far, does not excuse you from following immigration law and rules. Either get a proper visa or extension or leave for your home country when the amnesty ends.

    Madmac...

    Ha ha.

As i said change your attitude please.

You make comments that just comes into your head without knowing full facts.

Just for your info....i have lived on and off in Thailand for 3 and a half years always have a valid visa for my stays.

And at present not living in the Land of (Smiles)!!!!

Awaiting to come back...whenever that may be.

Anyways, people on regular extensions are not affected and I think we all agree it is best to do them in time as usual.

For the visa runners, hopefully they find a way to convert/transfer these into extensions. Remains the money requirement but there could be some flexibility.

The remaining tourists enjoying a free ride, well, enjoy it as long as the game lasts. It may be over pretty soon.

You are a tourist too...even if you have lived in Thailand for 25 years on a visa...your just a tourist.

    Change your attitude please.

    Thanks

6 months of working 12 hours a day and 6 days a week without a real break.

Try walking in my shoes (or the shoes of most Thai workers) before making such a stupid comment.

Be thankful you have had work and earning money.

A few million have not worked for 3 months and need to earn.

No one is stopping you take your leave, so book a holiday and go relax.

Scrapping the long Songkran holiday is sad for tourists and ex pats but having 3 long weekends, in most Friday afternoon until the Wednesday morning is long enough for everyone to enjoy...only missing out on 4 days but made up with 3 x long weekends.

    Everyone is a winner ????????????????

  13. Be thankful the Thai Govt have stamped on this situation with a big foot.

Consider yourselves lucky that at least you are alive and not contracted the virus.

In other countries like Italy, UK and US ill prepared to deal with this pandemic.

In UK pubs shut for 3 months, shops just starting to reopen, the economy shot to pieces, a massive recession that will last for at least 3 years.

But still they have 42,000 people die.

At least 100,000 dead in US.

The curfew in place in the whole of Thailand was there because even with pubs, clubs and 'entertainment' places closed, people would have just had parties in their condos etc.

As you all know this would have been a Covid 19 hotspot and many thousands more infections would have happened.

I like many billions of people around the world have been thru a <deleted> time sitting at home only allowed out to get food, but im thankful im alive.

Stop moaning. Thailand is a hot country most of you on here will have balconies or maybe a place outside your homes to sit and have a drink of beer.

Suck it up....soon you will all go about normal life with the thai birds and ladyboys that most of you crave and miss.

And be thankful you have survived and live to enjoy your lives again.

  14. I expect the reason they have done this maybe because they do not want 'tourists' going all over the country.

Think about it. If you are flying 'home' then your going to be at home.

I think its crazy to let people move around as someone could have the virus...go back to the province and then elders will maybe get it.

???????????? big for the Govt if the figures are correct and the virus almost gone from Thailand....but dont be surprised if it starts spreading.
