For about 6 months or more I have had issues when sending more than about euro 1000, it says it needs extra time. I cancelled them, and got my money back into wise within about 30 minutes. Now I send less than 1000 at a time, and they are instant. There does seem to be a cut off amount that makes them take longer Cancelling can be stresfull, as it gives no indication on how long it will take to get the money back into wise, it just floats around in the ether for a while. If you dont cancel them really quick , I suspect it may take a few days

Phuket Overstay Crackdown Nets Seven Foreign Nationals
youngster30uk replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
a few quick searches show the numbers to be much lower While exact numbers can vary, it's known that thousands of travelers overstay their visas in Thailand each year. The Thai Immigration Bureau has reported that there are often several thousand cases of overstays annually. For instance, in some years, estimates have suggested that the number of overstayers could be in the range of 10,000 to 20,000 or more, but this number can fluctuate based on various factors such as changes in visa policies and global travel trends. The estimate of 10,000 to 20,000 overstayers in Thailand is a rough figure based on various reports and news articles covering immigration and visa issues over the years. This range reflects general trends rather than precise, up-to-date statistics. For example: News reports and updates from Thai immigration authorities sometimes mention the number of overstayers in this range. Immigration-related discussions and travel advisories occasionally provide rough estimates based on available data. -

Interesting stat. I have not heard this before, I assume that number includes all those that overstay for a couple of days before they leave? I am sure that would make a significant proportion of that total I just researched it, the total number of overstayers in any one year is estimated to in the range of 10,000 to 20,000 or more, but this number can fluctuate based on various factors such as changes in visa policies and global travel trends. Where did you get the 100k number? -

Thailand's Tourism Faces 'Zero-Dollar' Tour Crisis
youngster30uk replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Most tourists are not Chinese Businessmen. Those that buy expensive condo are businessmen, who will typically have a business registered to Hong Kong, so they can fairly freely take their money overseas. It is not in any way relevant to the zero dollar tourism market. Whether you call it nonsense or not, this is the fact of what happens. -
Thailand's Tourism Faces 'Zero-Dollar' Tour Crisis
youngster30uk replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A lot of the money from these zero dollar tours does not enter Thailand and does not benefit Thailand in any way. A chinese person would pay a chinese tour company, all the money stays in China, then they are taken to chinese businesses in Thailand all the money goes back to china Thais taking foreigner to their 'Family' business is bringing money to the Thai economy, they are completely different situations- 105 replies

I have heard that many times, but never seen any proof of it, do you have any proof, or is it just hearsay? , but agree the numbers are likely to be higher than stated. If you base it on the WHO numbers, this week is lower than average, If you base it on the Thai numbers, this week is exactly average, despite the Government saying they are significantly higher, that dont add up either way
-
Thai government themselves say these are the most deadly days of the year. You seem to be claiming tthey are less, but the stats dont even support that, they put them exactly on average per thais own reported numbers As for the roads being too congested, not everywhere s Bangkok. Being too drnnk to drive? that is the main cause of the accidents, they drive even though they are too drunk to do so Even if you do believe that, the numbers dont add up either way
-
None of these numbers seem to add up, According to the WHO, there are about 20,000 road fatalities a year in thailand, which works out to about 55 per day. 162 over 4 days is 40 per day, and yet it is pretty certain that the numbers are higher than normal over the Songkran week. Even if we take Thailands official numbers for 2022. this works out to 40 per day, which is exactly on par wth the daily average based on Thailand own numbers, yet even the Thai government say it is higher during this week. It doesnt add up, Someone is doing something dodgy with the numbers
