Was on and off early hours (from 3am) this morning. UPS beeping woke me up. All back on by 7am.

Seems to be a lot of outages again lately. I thought that we had seen the last of this with the new undersea cables from the mainline. But I suppose all this is caused by the rain we are having now the 'wet' season has arrived.

Better check all my emergency lights and power banks are topped up and working OK.

This mornings outage was not due to weather but planned maintenance, notified in advance by the PEA

You can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries from your visa. You do not have to wait for your visa to expire.

Best to apply for the extension at least 2 weeks before the 90 days ends.

Once you have the extension you can apply for a new extension every year.

After getting the extension you will need to get a re-entry permit to keep it valid if want to travel. The fee for single re-entry permit is 1000 and a multiple is 3800 baht.

Here is my general list of required documents for the extension application. Marriage Extension Requirements 2.pdf

Looks like I still have some bridges to cross before applying for an extension but your info is clear. concise and of great help.

    Thank you very much

    No

They can still get a single entry non-o visa and apply an extension of stay based upon their spouses extension or OA visa entry.

Joe, sorry if this has been covered before but as an old and confused retiree I would be grateful if you would clarify some things for me.

I have currently a multi non 'O' (not O-A) based on marriage which expires Jan. 16th 2020.

If I have 400,000 baht in my bank, seasoned for at least 2 months prior to the date of my application, am I able to get a 12 month extension of this non 'O' visa at my local IO and continue to extend on an annual basis?

What documents would I need apart from passport, marriage certificate and presumably proof of the 400,00 in the bank?

Bearing in mind the expiry date of the visa, when is the best time to apply for the extension (1 week, one month before)?

Am I able to leave Thailand and return more than once on this extension if granted?

Alternatively, if the above is not possible then my only alternative is an O-A visa?

    Thanks in anticipation.

  4. This suggestion may not suit you, but I catch the 5pm ferry from Samui and drive non-stop (apart from petrol and comfort breaks) arriving and driving through Bangkok around 3-4 am.

All roads including the tollways are virtually empty and driving through Bangkok is a breeze.

I would never now consider driving through in daytime.

Not sure what visa you are writing about. If it was single entry visa it would be invalid on the date it was used if a multiple entry visa it would expire as some time after the extension was done but it could not be used for an entry since that would make the extension invalid.

You can apply for new extension of stay year after year without ever leaving the country unless you wanted to and then you would need a re-entry permit.

Sorry for the confusion, but your second paragraph answered my question, thanks.

That is because it cannot be done without going out for a new multiple entry non-o visa.

As I explained you can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage and then get a multiple re-entry permit.

Please can you clarify something for me Joe, if you are granted the one year extension of stay based upon marriage, the original visa is of course no longer valid at the end of that year but can you continue to apply for another one year extension of stay based upon marriage in the following year and so on?

Tmoney you are not extending your visa. You are being given a 12 month permission of stay based on marriage. You apply for that in the last 30 days or 45 at some imm offices of the until date on your non o visa.

Sorry, now I am really confused.

Quote from lopburi (above) "Visas are Consulate issued outside Thailand but any non immigrant O visa entry can be extended yearly if you meet the financial requirements - if over age 50 for retirement and if married to a Thai for marriage."

Yet you talk about "12 month permission of stay based on marriage??? and NOT extending my visa based on marriage.

    Which is it?

Is the 12 month permission of stay that you talk about valid for 12 months AFTER the date of my visa expiry date?

Visas are Consulate issued outside Thailand but any non immigrant O visa entry can be extended yearly if you meet the financial requirements - if over age 50 for retirement and if married to a Thai for marriage.  The O-A is only issued at a Thai Consulate where you reside (not in Thailand).  The difference between O and O-A is the O only allows 90 day stays but the O-A is a pre approved one year extension so any entry gets a new one year permitted stay during the time the visa is valid.

    Thank you lopburi.

Please can you take the time to explain in more detail how I should go about extending my Non O visa based on marriage? Is it then possible to extend it year on year using what will then be an out of date Non O visa?

Visit local IO for application forms? Documents required? Financial requirements 400,000 THB or 800,000THB in bank seasoned how long? etc. (or where can I find all this information?)

I am over 50, I have a Thai wife (legal marriage certificate 12 years), Non O visa valid until January 12th 2020 and believe I can satisfy the financial requirements.

  9. In my case, a Non O is a visa has always been issued by the Thai Embassy in London. It is valid for one year and requires to be renewed annually. It requires the holder to leave Thailand at least once every 3 months

My understanding now is that as they are now or will soon be only accepting on-line applications, a Non O visa will apparently not be an option.

If this is not correct, sorry, no doubt it will be corrected.

Thanks for update. You are right, the testing station did do the VIN check as part of their inspection. I was focused on the tracing of the number and that being included in documents. That is what changed, still checking visually.

Interestingly they were more concerned the letters/numbers on my front reg. plate weren't black enough so filled them in with a 'permanent' black marker so the photo they take for their records read the number correctly.

Also, they found one of the full beam headlights wasn't working but they passed the car anyway, said no problem and asking me to get it fixed later.  ???? TIT.

  11. My car is 15 years old. Today (Thursday) we stopped at one of the MOT testing stations just before the Car tax office, they checked the car over (rolling road, lighting check, exhaust emission etc.) and issued the certificate.

Not sure whether or not they checked the VIN against the log book or not.

We also bought the mandatory insurance (645 baht I think) there as well to save time queuing twice in the tax office.

Once there, handed over the blue car book, MOT certificate, insurance certificate and 1446 baht for the new licence.

    Took less than 5 minutes.

To my knowledge, its the Beach Road that should be closed.

However, I wonder if the tourists would like three days of Water War, instead of the usual evening, and following one day only...????

The Beach Road will apparently be closed to all traffic on Saturday 13th April EXCEPT for the Gay Pride Parade.

Thank you for your post, did you need to provide some proof of residence as well?

Just FYI, I had to update (not renew) my licence to show new passport number.

Cost to change each (motorcycle and car) licence 65 baht (free plastic holders).

I needed two copies of proof of residence from SI.

SI charged 500 baht for two copies of proof of address, you need to take a photo for each. (Free in Khon Kaen Immigration).
