I have told my opinion about this pandePANIC elsewhere here.

Human deal with viruses since millions years, nothing new here about a virus.

0.1% deaths ? Mostly very old people with preconditions ?

Not a reason to end the (normal) world.

Many people just do not think enough, do not compare with other daily causes of deaths or sickness (road, pollution, obesity, war, etc.). Takes a working brain, not just one number and primitive fear reaction following breaking news and gouvernement agendas.

We may agree on the "a little bit" worried.

Not so much more like a total world panic, shelter, close the gates, stay at home or at country, in primitive fear...

I agree it's not a "reason to end the normal world"

The difference with "other daily causes of deaths or sickness (road, pollution, obesity, war, etc.). " is that there is any treatment for covid-19,  whereas road, pollution,  obesity risks depend on your own choices and behaviour.

Unfortunately the Thai economy is going to crash soon. The CV death numbers are being manipulated why arent people questioning those numbers. People are falling right in line with what govt wants. Im going to try and be patient with re entry. Wont be easy to get the med certificate Im in Afghanistan on a military base and locked down. Its still dangerous out here, Id have to wait for Dubai

    Not unfortunately, but happily !

That way thai junta will have to change its mind

Greece, a country with a similar number of reported cases like Thailand, does the following, and we here in Europe are moaning already and think it's too much hassle and expensive:

Not many deads in Greece (192) but more than in Thailand (58)

Covid test 72 hours before entering.

Not at all the case. No Covid test has to be mad before entering. Only registering for QR code 1 day minimum before the day of arrival. I am spending holydays in Greece right now.

If it comes out positive, they start looking for yoi, if not you carry on with your vacation.

In that case, you have to move to a "covid-19" hotel for 14 days quarantine, at the expense of greek government.

Some of my aquaintances think...ah...family of 4....we will pay around 300 euro more for these PCR tests (75 euro per head). Better just not travel at all.

In France, PCR tests are now free.

  4. Hello,

For my 1st extension of stay (1 year), I took a mutliple entries re-entry permit, but in fact I used it once only.

I just got my 2nd 1 year extension of stay and I am wondering if after taking this time a single entry re-entry permit, I would have the possibility, if need be later, to take a new re-entry permit for the same extension (single or multiple).

    Thanks

Will the health insurance one has in their home country be accept for the insurance requirement?

Or does it has to be medical insurance purchased in Thailand?

Apparently not, only thai insurance companies for renewal,  http://longstay.tgia.org/home/guidelineoa

First year, all applicants can buy health insurance from insurance companies in their owned countries or authorized insurance company in Thailand. When the applicants want to renew the visa, the applicants must buy insurance from authorized insurance companies in Thailand only. Any inquiries on completing Insurance application can be addressed at each insurance company

Thanks @ubonjoe. Looks like I am stuck with the CM office. ????

At least getting all the paperwork in order will be easier. And I don't have to hang out in BKK for a couple of weeks.

    David

Not a couple of weeks. To get my extension to a non-o 90 visa, everything was done the same day.
I arrived too lated in the morning to ask for a multiple entries permission (another queue) and I had to come back for it, but if you are theer when it opens, or even earlier (you can get a ticket) you can do everything the same day

  7. Hello,

My feeling is that since you enter with an exemption of visa, or a NEW visa, you start from scratch. So you could go to any immigration office you want, Bangkok or Chiang Mai, or else, as long as you have an address there (no matter you were elsewhere before). Once you get a visa or an extension at one place, you are linked to that place for notifications and new extensions.

As for me, I entered Thailand in january 2019 with a Non-O visa 90 days (very easy to get in France, I guess the same in the USA).

Once in Bangkok, I asked for a retirement extension 30 days before my non-0 90 days visa expired :

    • I did not need to give any “references to leases and letters from hotel/guesthouse”, they only asked me to give them an address (which they can cross check with my guesthouse declaration) and to draw a map of the location
    • I only gave them :
      • One picture
      • Fees
      • Voucher for my revenues. I did not transfer 800 000 bahts to Bangkok bank where my bank account is
      • A drawing map of my place , to be sure I knew where I lived I guess
    • I do not remember which form I filled in. I filled in what they asked me to
    • I stayed at Chaengwattana Immigration office 5 hours and half (about 20kms form downtown). I arrived at 11am and left at 4:30 pm. Better to get there earlier ! . At Chaengwattana you have everything which could be missing (take pictures, make copies, get voucher from Bangkok Bank of your current account balance, eat, etc…
    • I do believe Bangkok is less arbitrary

in Aus the Medicare system is free and the medical system here is first class.

Same for France (medical system), recenty retired, I was considering spending half or more of the year in Thailand. Health insurance for OA, and probably soon for Non-O. I do not feel secure with these changing immigration rules and cannot plan anything stable in Thailand.

I will probably spend most of my time in Europe and only short periods in Thailand and elsewhere.

  9. Hello,

I am not sure to understand : Does this obligation applies only to Non immigrant O-A visa end not to extension based on Non immigrant O visa ?

In my case, 3 month non immigrant O visa, followed by 1 year extension based on retirement whih expires in april 2020 :

Will an insurance be asked when i ask for a new extension in april 2020?

Will this insurance be asked when I enter Thialand in november 2019 with my existing extension valid till april 2020?

    Thanks

O-A's only are listed in the police order at this time. All else is guesswork. It may be the writing's on the wall for all long stayers, or it may be they just wanted to stick a massive disincentive on what had long been a very decent and popular visa option.

The word "renewal" has been bandied around by officials since the announcement earlier in the year and has caused much confusion. There's no such thing as a renewal, only a permission to stay (which may run as far as 12 months beyond the date of the visa if someone enters just before it's expiry date); and an extension. Only two things can be done on a Non O-A, convert it to a retirement extension, or get a new one when it expires, so it's anyone's guess what they mean by renewal. What is unclear regarding the new rules is whether they're retroactively applied to Non O-A's that predate the rule or not, both in regard to the initial multiple entry period and extensions.

Incidentally, with all the current topics running on this subject concurrently (the most helpful and detailed being in the visa section), perhaps it's better to close some of these older threads.

    Ok Thanks

Initially I had a 3 month Non imgrant O visa and I now have a retirement extension of stay with multiple entries till april and will go back to thailand next month.

I guess there will be no problem to enter thailand in november 2019 and stay till april 2020 then.

I hope they will not ask insurance for the new extension, i will ask in march 2020

However, today’s version of THE LAW ( Friday 24 May) is very encouraging...as long as they Stick To It. The Health scheme that the previously ELECTED Gvt., introduced for the Ferang

was fine...but of course that was “thrown out with the bath water” when Yingluck was booted out.

    Clear as mud ... ????

Any more information or are we supposed to search on Google ?

  12. What makes me worry is that thai authorities constantly change the rules.

How can you plan anything that way, without legal security ?

I am retired since october. I came to Thailand at the beginning of january with a 3 months Visa non O and asked in Bangkok for a 1 year extension which I very easily got. That extension expires in april 2020.

I went back to France, where I am now, at mid april (after a 3 months and half stay). What I intended to do with my 1 year permission to stay (and later renewals) was to come to Thailand whenever I wanted. Next planned trip in november for 3 to 5 months). For now I do not intend to live in Thailand but to stay there 6 months a year ( about 2 times 3 months). May be later I would settle there.

If I stay out of France no more than 6 months, the french national security system still covers me. I just have to ask them for refund of medical expenses when I go back to France (and an extra "assistance" linked to my Visa Pemier Card provides me with an advance of funds if need be. I only have to pay for an extension of this assistance if my trip is longer than 90 days). So I do no need an extra health insurance and I much doubt the french national security system (Sécurité sociale) would give me any document, acceptable by thai authorities, to prove I am already covered.

As this forum is in English, I guess other nationals reading this forum are few and far between. If you're reading this forum can you post your embassies policies as of today. I think French embassy has already posted they cannot issue affidavit. The tsunami is coming. Be prepared with alternate strategies.

    That's not true.

French embassy in Bangkok issues such affidavit. It's written on their website and I call them up this week from France for extra details.

Here is the page, under "Decalarations de revenus" and if you click on "Déclaration de revenus" in section 2b :

    Quote

2b - Au même moment, l’usager envoie par courrier (idéalement EMS) le formulaire « déclaration de revenu » joint, renseigné et signé en indiquant le montant mensuel de ses ressources...

then you'll get the form itself.

They do no check your income figures which are mentionned under your responsbaility.

But, if need be, they also can certify government documents, such as income tax statement (Pension payments are not made by government administration).
