  1. As with everything here ...it depends. Some lines of work will require different formats or styles of medical certificate. If you want to teach, for instance, then they want a certain type of medical certificate that says you are clear of blah blah blah etc. like elephantiasis and a few other weird ones and not just any old one that some place issues. But this is something that your HR department should square you away with and give the correct form for you to get filled out. As with many immigration issues it matters where you are doing something, who you are dealing with today, which way the wind is blowing and on and on.

Highlighting just that, many bars were still packed after Philippe's announcement and some reported a surge in attendance after the closure order became public, as revellers turned out for a last drink despite recommendations to avoid crowds.

Morons. So many live in a cocooned lackadaisical bubble thinking nothing can go wrong. People are so reckless now and ambivalent to consequences. I'm mean, for example, how do you end up falling off a cliff whilst trying to take a photo of yourself?

  3. One unexpected outcome/cost for China and few other countries is that western companies may well consider these long lines of production, delivery etc. at the last minute a liability after all this is done and that may equal more expensive goods that are made/sources closer to home. This might be a silver lining and could also be good for western economies and there will be more jobs created due to this screw up of relying on just China for everything. Change will come after this all blows over and I bet company boards are already planning to mitigate the failings of this all for the next time round.

  4. Seems that every week they are pulling some kind of give away/stimulus/free gimmick that always costs billions of baht on top of the normal stuff out their backsides. Where the hell are they getting all this money from? Vat rate of 7% and most Thais being too poor, or too rich, to pay income tax then sometimes I'm a little cynical on this front. Maybe dipping into the foreign currency reserves, I guess.

  5. Seems to be a mixed response from the unis here at the moment as some seem to be just trundling on as usual and some are going online with teaching for a bit. Once there are a few cases of corona at the unis then they will have to all go online or close for a bit ...places like this are petri dish central. They are caught between a rock and a hard place as the students have all paid up and cancelling the term would cause a storm of brown stuff. I heard from a teacher that even going online is unpopular with the students.

  6. I read a news report (that can't link) that talked about the Lancet Medical Journal doing a piece about governments have a choice between saving their people or saving their economies as can't do both. I think it's easy to see which countries have chosen which option. As for the Chinese, it's all gone very quiet on info now even if the media attention has shifted to the US and Europe. I think quite a few are choosing to suppress news and sweep it under the carpet so their economies might start moving back to normal. Ironic that the numbers of "pneumonia" cases have oddly gone up unexpectedly ...hmmm.

  7. Fishing has become a hot potato as it has come to signify the injustice of the EU policies. The UK can't now sell-out the UK fishermen as it will be political suicide for Boris. Best the EU can hope for is a deal same as Norway where licenses are issued yearly. The present deal cannot be renewed as it's simply not politically acceptable now. That boat has sailed.

Are you saying that it's easier for a Chinese citizen to stay in Thailand long term than

it is for a westerner? I understand that the Chinese now can get a VOA but that is only

valid for a short period, certainly not longer than the western visa exempt period.

The rules for long stay expats are certainly being more strictly enforced now, and a lot

of loopholes are being acted on, and you can't go to the USA or UK embassy now and

ask for an official letter stating that you have a sufficient income to satisfy the requirements.

Whether that is true or not.

I suppose the fact that the baht is so strong is seen as an anti falang thing

as well,  for those who see negativity everywhere they look.

Not to be disrespectful but there wasn't any point you quoting my earlier post as you addressed absolutely nothing that I said ...just assumed that I was saying something then went off on a wild tangent about F all to do with what I said. Haha.

  9. At least the US FED has rates to cut ...even though, I think 0.5% is a bit much a bit quick as the markets can be funny about stuff and might think it could be worse than stated if they have gone that far so quick etc. Places like the UK have no rates to cut really and they have had years to introduce rate normalization back in a bit but have gone always for the short term. One of the main reasons 2008 blow was softened was that they had rates of 5% to give them room to work ...should have gone back a bit even if it costed some.
