Honey Hotel, Sukhumvitt Soi 19, Asoke Skytrain Station, around 800-900/night

    Awesome thanks!

  2. You didnt see Blakey on there did you? :o

Sorry I didn't get the number as I was travelling fairly fast and the bus fairly slow. I did have some concern that the bus might hit some of the motorway signs.

Anyway here is a picture of Inspector Blakey.

    :D

  3. From Stickman's latest column:

"We reported two weeks ago on the tragic murder of expat Steven Miller, shot while driving his motorbike. His live-in girlfriend, a 30-year-old former gogo dancer who confessed to having her secret Thai boyfriend commit the crime, now is inexplicably out on bail. Neither we nor anyone else in the media could get further details. Ironically, it’s suspected that she used Steve’s money (500,000 baht) to arrange bail. Can you believe this?!"

    :D

    Cripes :o

  4. If you want to chow down for cheap check out some of the "all you can eat" buffet breakfasts and dinners offered at the Lek Hotel or the Apex Hotel.

Just be prepared and have som Imodium ready for next day. Buffets in tropics are the breeding ground for bacteria and the flies find the food faster than you! Get a Thai girl to go with you, then have her check the chicken pieces before you eat them. She'll find and remove the fly eggs. (happened several times to me, no longer go there! :D

    EWwwwwwww! :D:o

  5. As a recently-single, 30-something American with a nice chunk of change, Pattaya is like the promised land to me. Granted, I've seen little else of the LoS though other than 3 days worth in BK which was virtually almost all in malls there, otherwise Gulliver's. Then there was Chiang Mai for Songkran. I'm sure there's so much more to Thailand than Pattaya, and in no way do I consider Pattaya the quintessence of it. That'd be like considering Las Vegas the capitol of the USA. They're both fun places to visit, but I couldn't live for long in either (this also coming from a New Yorker, mind you) It'd be just too much excess for me to handle for a length of time and I'd inevitably burn out. :o

  6. Mobi hit it pretty close. SOME guys are NOT allowed to go to Pattaya. They seem to have fallen into the old trap. (She who must be obeyed). :D

    EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT!! :D

....and some of the bashers on here are `blokes` whose boyfriends won`t let them go to Boyztown :D

    :o

  7. i first went to pattaya about 18 years ago, just come off a bad relationship (thank god) and i stepped into paradise i could sit at a bar and have 10 birds chat me up most of them with the same line that was all the english they knew but who cared,i remember having tears in my eyes having to catch the bus to return to reality.

i was hooked on the place,3 or 4 times a year i would come for a month at a time many times pinching myself and saying "is this real"then i met a guy who had just opened a bar in a sleepy soi he had the idea to cater for expats who lived there and encouraged families with kids to come and have a evening drink,so i became i good customer and friend of the owner jimmy mac "god rest his soul "who had the bar in soi 6.

when the pattaya novelty started to wear thin i started to travel around thailand looking for a place were i could settle down and be content and happy, and 15 years on a diamond of a wife and the greatest two kids anyone could have i found it in chaingrai.

when i have been asked in the uk from guys coming for the first time,i ask how long are you going for and if he his married most ofthe time the answers are the same,3 or 4 weeks and not married (for one reason or another) i have allways told them just go to pattaya and blow your brains out you will have a ball.

nowadays i only come to see a couple of old friends, the kids love the place but aweek is enough theese days, but good luck to anyone who wants to spend all their time in pattaya,i allways say "your a long time dead"

    enjoy

You're a lucky man then, lad. I'm recently single so I do hope to follow your path. However, I wouldn't mind an extra few years in Pattaya! :o

  8. Did you read that article in the Bangkok Post (front page) two years ago about the 92 year old man...filthy rich , the owner of Tipco, (the asphalt co and not the fruit juice co) ?

He had reported his 18 year old wife to the police for theft .

Reason ; She had stolen/discarded his supply of Viagra tablets.

[True story...you can probably find it in the Bangkok Post archives if you look under Viagra.]

    :o:D:D

  9. I actually had a scenario similiar to this one in NYC a while back ('88; I was 17) where I kneed one of 3 shoplifters in the face and he went out like a light in front of about 8 arresting Port Authority cops who I happened to know since I worked in the terminal for some time. If not for this factor, chances are I would've either gotten pulled in as well and even had charges successfully pressed on me. The cops even covered for me. That being said, there's no way I'd seek payback while in a foreign policestation, especially the way the average Thai cop feels about foreigners to begin with. I'm all for payback, but that is a no-win situation. :o

  10. Believe it or not, but I am a 9/11 survivor (Tower 1, 83rd floor). Although it was an infernal chaos on my floor after we got hit anywhere from 10 to 13 floors above, it doesn't compare to what the RI club patrons went through and Im sure Route 999 as well. At least we were able to breathe and see enough to make it to the emergency fire stairwell and it was more or less smooth sailing from there (so to speak, until we reached downstairs anyway after an hour). From what I hear, these 2 club tragedies didn't allow the luxury of time that I had either in the WTC and we're talking about only a very few minutes.

Supposedly, the door was so narrow at the RI club that people were literally clogging the door sideways and stacked on top of each other. The stage was covered walls and ceiling with this extremely flamable soundproofing and the video of the fire spreading was so horrific and surreal.

  11. I was in Pattaya about 3 weeks ago for the first time. On my off-nites from the go-go and beer bars, I'd stroll up and down the Beach Road & even the beach as late as 4am by myself with no incident except for the occassional approach from some freelancer or aggressive katooey (haha). Luckily, no bad experiences. Of course, being muscular and looking like a tattoo'd Yakuza boy doesn't hurt. :o Regardless, I'm a stubborn New Yorker, and those 2 features above do not make you michete- or bulletproof. :D

  12. I felt compelled to finally register here just a minute ago after 2 weeks of actively reading this as well as the Bangkok forum. I came back 2 weeks ago from my very first trip to Thailand and honestly fell in love with the place, especially Pattaya. I am a born-&-raised New Yorker; hel_l's Kitchen to be exact in Manhattan for those of you familiar with this rough neighborhoods rich American history. I liked Bangkok but feel that I really didn't delve deep enough into the place to really experience & appreciate it, but Pattaya was a whole different ballgame. I was there for Songkran and had a blast. I also had my share of beer bar and go-go bars as well along with the typical fun. I also had a bad night over there where my senses were heightened to notice the ugly side of Pattaya as far as the stench of the sewers at the crack of dawn & the excess of sleaze (both local and farang, comingled in Walking Street at the afterhour joints). It was truly worse than Time's Square/42nd street back in the late 70's/early 80's!

Despite this, I love Pattaya and will continue to vacation there whenever I have the chance to hit the LoS. I've been going through withdrawal ever since I got back, but this forum definitely keeps me in tune with Pattaya and I find it very informative. Also, you guys are a riot! :o I've laughed out loud too many times at work thanks to you guys collectively so thanks! :D
