A general law on "communicable diseases'" could be used, and abused, in the future for other diseases. The common cold is technically considered a communicable disease, as are many other illnesses that we don't think of as such. One more step toward totalitarianism.

Germany has had 9,000 virus related deaths. Almost all of those in the first few months of the pandemic. Credit to them for getting the virus under control. Since mid-June infections have flatlined near zero. I don't see the urgent need the letter writer sees.

Sounds like it could be a fun way to spend a day out. Something different. Why all the cynicism?

My friend regularly parks in Centara's lot at night when we're out on the town. He just slips the guard some cash and parks unofficiallly. You can park in the Hilton, but it will be expensive.

I was at this same festival last year and it is a pretty nice time on the beach with food, beer, music, etc. Draws a big crowd. Hua Hin is actually doing quite well (relatively speaking) during this crisis time. Weekends are busy with Thais and farang coming down from Bangkok for a break. My friend's bungalow resort in Cha Am was fully booked for last holiday weekend.

I actually made it from Bangkok to Hua Hin in 2 hours flat. Left Bangkok 2 AM, arrived HH 4 AM. No traffic, speeding the whole way 555.

Well, I will try not to presume anything that I don't personally know. I don't know how these monkeys are generally treated, but I personally visited one of the harvesting operations years ago and every monkey there was toothless. Sitting around having a few beers with my mates the other night and we were discussing this. The girls chimed in that this is still a common practice in some areas. Nuff said.

The fishing industry in the Philippines has destroyed entire ecosystems, destroying coral reefs dynamite fishing in some areas.

Respectfully, maybe you should do some homework on this issue. It is common practice for these monkeys to have all their teeth yanked out to prevent them from biting. I have personally seen this at a monkey harvesting operation years ago, and am told (by Thais) that this is still common practice today. I will assume you would agree this is a cruel practice.

Several commenters have noted how the monkeys are not treated cruelly and seem to enjoy their work. What I have not seen is any mention of the practice of removing all the monkey's teeth to prevent them from biting. I have personally observed this years ago and have been told it is still common practice today. I would say that practice alone qualifies as animal cruelty.

My temperature was 31 on Thursday and 40 on Friday. I must be going through menopause.

I live here and things are getting back to normal. I haven't been down by the night market recently, but Baan Khun Por is operating pretty much normal except no live music and they've had good crowds since they've been allowed to serve drinks. Almost all restaurants are operating as before. If you want to get out of Bkk for a few days I'd say this is a good option.

Well, when ya think ya got away with 8 mysterious disappearances, why not go for 9. Sorry to trivialize a serious matter.

Who would have thought Thailand has a Human Rights Commission. Maybe they just have the sign.

Thai police deny any role...of course they weren't involved. What about some military special forces guys?

You're wrong. This doesn't just happen in Thailand. You think this doesn't happen in the Philippines, Cambodia, Nam, Latin American countries? There are suckers everywhere.

As foreigners we mostly just think of Songkran as a fun time, but it is perhaps the most important cultural holiday there is. If you have ever been in any of the non-touristy provinces during this time you'll see a different form of celebration, with still a lot of fun, but different and very family oriented. Obviously they're willing to sell out this ancient cultural holiday for tourism's sake.

I live in Hua Hin and we all loved Santorini, more than Vana Nava water park. They did not charge foreigners more than Thais! In fact, I was given senior citizen discount, while my Thai friend paid full admission.

Whoever made the offer is screwing up the price structure for all the rest of us. Massage girls will want 100k for a happy ending.

Are there guidelines as to how far up the leg a foot massage can go?

Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's independence day. It is not even considered a big holiday in Mexico, except in the state where there was a battle on that date. I believe Mexico's independence day is in September.
