Surely it would be far better for peace of mind at least, would it not, for the required 800,000 in the case of a retirement extension to be accumulated upfront in an acceptable THB account, even if this meant taking a hit on exchange rates?
 

The interest rate I get on my FCD here is significantly higher than I can get from a bank back in my home country.  I also pay no tax on the interest.

What makes you think that officers at local immigration offices have any knowledge of immigration rules and regulations?

It is not about filtering good from bad.

It is about complete removal.

I have been saying for months that long stay expats in Thailand are currently under siege.

But anyone that can't see what is afoot here is entirely deluded.

Easier, faster and more watertight =

• 1.6 million baht on deposit for 12 months for retirement extension
• 800K baht on deposit for 12 months for wedding extension
• 30 day reporting with full finger printing and facial scan on each occassion
• 10K baht fine for not doing TM30 report (payable by foreigner on next extension application)
• Compulsory medical insurance payable to agent at each immigration office. No choice of providers
• New stamps that will burn a full page in your passport, not just half a page like the previous ones.

Yep.  Get ready for the next hammer blow.  Every piece of bad news from immigration in recent years has come with the sales pitch that it will make it easier for us.

And what ministers have to approve this proposal?  I thought the election result and subsequent ministerial positions was still unclear in the wake of the election "irregularities".

Is this getting rushed through by Prawit before he is replaced?
