Virtually all western countries have a top down 'democracy'. The people are constantly being manipulated.
Are you suggesting that the Russian people are NOT being manipulated? Are you saying that you prefer the Russian approach of making it illegal to criticise the government? What better alternative to top-down democracy do you propose? bottom-up (such as gilets-jaunes) which would result in chaos?

They already do. It's called democracy. The only place people don't get to have a say in what leaders are doing in their name is of course Russia, where the opposite is true. Prison for those who speak out against the Russian regime

It is so clearly pro-Russian propaganda that a 10-year-old could see through its bias. I might bookmark for easy access for those moments when I need a good laugh. Seriously you should all check it out. It's just too funny to miss

Well, it was mentioned in one of the video clips in which the Russian media are discussing it with their military "experts". I think the link was provided by one of your equally deluded Russophile friends

We know that $39 Billion has been shovelled over to the corrupt Ukraine regime (as bad for the people as anything that Putin can lob over to them), but we don't know exactly how much Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin (to name only two merchants of death) have been able to scoop up in this war. (Reuters mention "more than $10 Billion".)
This might give some clue:
Share price of Northrop Grumman
Feb 3: $369.75
Sept 9: $491.35
Lockheed Martin
Feb 3: $389.33
Sept 9: $421.53 (on Aug 16 it was $440.16)
So, in conclusion, the American tax-payer is being told he or she is funding this expensive boondoggle that brings not the slightest sliver of extra security to the American citizen.
You are deluded if you think only individuals/corporations on one side profit from a war. But in this case, neither of those companies you mentioned controls the market and neither did they instigate the events that gave rise to their share price increases. The support of Ukraine in this despicable conflict is not about money. This is about supporting the victim of one county's attempt to destroy another. A conflict driven by one egomaniac's desire to see his beloved Soviet Union restored (as he alluded to in an audience with students many years ago)

I thought the police did a good job. The hostage escaped and the man chased after her, still holding the grenade. He ran into an open space where there was minimum danger to anyone else. He was then brought down by a marksman.
If he had caught up with his hostage, or entered a populated area, there could have been fatalities.
Police then exercised patience before removing the grenade from the disabled man.
But the obvious concern is how would they have known what would happen. The man with the grenade was only a few metres from the hostage. Shooting the man may have caused him to relax his grip on the grenade and drop it or worse still release the grenade forward (since he was running...ish) towards the hostage. Too many unknown variables. I'd like to think that the marksman knew something we don't. But then you have to think if they knew the grenade was not "live" or dangerous, then why shoot him? It looks to me like they took a gamble with the hostage's life and got away with it

So... it was deemed to be a good idea to shoot a man holding a grenade...

Nonsense, they were Thais addressing Thais in Thai, they were shouting "Stop!"
There were definitely a couple of people shouting "ying" (shoot)

From the video the opposite appears to be more true, as on at least two occasions he prevented the motorcyclist from leaving

Here in sunny Thailand you can guesstimate your realistic solar output by:-
Installed capacity x 0.5 x 6 hours = Energy Generated.
Solving for Installed Capacity = Energy Generated / (6 x 0.5).
We have Sofar inverters, but they aren't particularly cheap either.
Showing my ignorance here, but "Installed capacity" would be the sum of the wattage of the panels?

If you read the meter again at 4PM (second time) you can then estimate your daytime usage too.
Your solar needs to generate the sum of the two.
Right. Glad I checked this forum out. You've all been very helpful.
Could I trouble you all for suggestions on a 10kW (or 2 x 5kW) 3 phase inverter that would be cheaper than Growatt (they said they like Growatt because of it's name and guarantee - however I was thinking to go for a "much" cheaper inverter with a shorter like span with the idea that the tech is improving and getting cheaper all the time. Not sure if that's realistic) -

You can actually measure how much juice you use in the sun-off hours.
Read your meter at about 4PM and again at about 8AM, that should give you a ballpark figure for how much storage you need to go "mostly" off-grid.
Obviously you still have grid power for backup if your batteries go flat over night.
Excellent idea, thank you

Do you want to be completely independent from the grid or will be happy to use some of it (when available) for example for the swimming pool pump etc?
I'm happy to use the grid when needed. I have 2 aims. 1 to reduce the bill (hopefully by 3 - 5k per month) and 2 to have electricity during the frequent power cuts (which mostly seem to happen during the day)

I can price the parts .........
1. Growatt is expensive (70Kbht) so 11kW of off- inverter (2x 5k5 in series) = 32Kbht.
2. 26 x 450w Trina too expensive, so I'll calculate 34 x 345w = 120Kbht (vs 200k for Trina)
3. Gel is old tech (90Kbht), you can only use 60% of the rated storage (so 12kWhr), I'd use s/h LifePo4 (10kWhr x2) 60Kbht
Their quote uses 360,000bht of equipment ....... so labour is quite cheap.
But the gel battery storage won't last you long, you currently use 60 units/day, 12 usable units in the battery is not enough, you need at least 30 units of 'usable' storage, which you could get with the LifePo4 (3 x 48V @200AH) for the same price as they quoted your gel batteries (really odd choice for the batteries).
My suggestion costs 240,000bht of equipment and gives you 3x the storage (but still 30% needed from the grid).
Also the 26 x Trina panels will only generate 40units/day (at best) and you use currently 60 units/day.
You may need 3x 5k5 inverters and another 8000w of panels to completely power your home.
Thanks for the suggestion, really appreciate it. I will look into it

Your 8 batteries look a bit insufficient to me.
What is your after dust electricity usage likely to be?
Thanks for your reply.
Normally we would have one 12k BTU aircon running til morning and a 19kBTU aircon on from around 6PM - 10PM, plus a couple of TV's. The swimming pool pump is on from 5PM until 9PM.
They told us the system would generate around 5k-7k worth of electricity per month. I'm expecting that it may be more likely to be around 4k and thus would require some from the grid. Initially they quoted 314k Baht, but then changed it to 399k as they said they hadn't realised it was 3phase (despite being told numerous times). They say that the 3Phase (Growatt 10kW) inverter is 135k Baht -
Hi everyone,
Let me start off by stating that I know very, very little about electricity (other than it's dangerous and not a good idea to put your finger in a socket).
I am looking into installing Solar energy. I live in the south of Thailand, in quite a remote area with an unreliable (3 phase) power supply, so I'm thinking of a hybrid solution. Our monthly bill is between 6k - 7k per month. We have 6/7 aircon units (though not usually more than 2 running at any given time), a 1.5HP swimming pool pump, 2 large (55 & 70 inch) TV's and a projector.
There is usually one aircon unit on for most of the day/night.
I have contacted a local Solar energy provider/installer and been quoted 399,000 Baht with details as below:
"1. Growatt Hybrid-Off grid 10kW (Three Phase) inverter 1 unit (can use electrical equipment continuously at the same time not more than 9000W/hour) 5 year warranty 2. Solar panel, Trina Solar brand, 450W MONO Half-cut cell (Tier1) = 26 panels *12 year body panel warranty *25 year power production warranty 3. Gel battery 200A 12V = 8 pcs. 4. Assemble the consumer cabinet
I am very interested in hearing any opinions you experts may have. 399k Baht does not seem like a worthy investment and am therefore considering buying the equipment separately and having "them" or someone else install it

When I go to Surin Immigration I don't even tell them that; and they don't ask!
Just hand over my passport and the information therein is logged onto the computer and 5 minutes later, the passport is handed back to me. No questions asked.
I was speaking metaphorically, I didn't mean that I actually say to them "oh by the way nothing has changed" ????.
Luckily my Immigration office is very friendly. The usual dialogue is THEM: "90 day?" ME "yep" followed by handing over my passport. They take it, then bash, bash, bash, stamp and hand it back

I've been trying to report online all week with no success. I saw one post by Eff1n2ret on Thursday mentioning successful use of the online service. Everyone else is saying it is not progressing past the first page, which is also my own experience.
I last did my report online in May, then in August it wouldn't progress past the first page online, so I did it in person. Now I’m in the same situation again. It’s so frustrating, how many months or years will it take for a basic reporting system to work, or even produce relevant error messages!
I just tried a few moments ago and like you found that I could not get past the first page. It worked a few months ago (9 months I suppose) but the last couple of times it has not and not this time either. As you say, it's very frustrating. It's a 1.5 hour round trip drive for me, just to tell them that nothing has changed

I can confirm that NAI HAN beach was extremely busy, nearly no space between all the occupied sun loungers, all occupied by 10's of thousands of genuine tourists from all over the world.
On the other hand, NAI HARN beach was practically empty of tourists.
They don't even know the name of the beaches, must have been there via META
Since it's real name is not written in English, there is no right or wrong way to spell it in English. Signs written in English all over Thailand often have multiple spellings for the same place name

Considering that the early program was completely mangled and mismanaged, I believe it's coming along quite nicely and steady on for the last couple months - every week it zooms up another couple percentage points.
Not to bad, compared to some of the world: to date 33.4% fully and about 73% partial.
Could be worse.
Actually I think it's more like 54% partially vaccinated, but as you say, it is at least moving in the right direction and picking up speed

Unlike many other countries, Thailand doesn't jab on weekends or public holidays. This can only slow progress. Typically Thai though, and i can imagine that EVERYONE stops between midday and 1pm to kin kaow
Vaccines are administered at the weekends but in much lower numbers. Typically 150k - 200k each on Sat/Sun compared with 700k - 800k on a week day
