  1. Take your passport, FCD passbook and all transfer details including IBAN to a branch of BKK and make the transfer (needs to be the originating branch if it is not a head office issued FCD).

Since the GBP is sitting in an FCD it has not entered the Thai currency system so there is no issue re-exporting the foreign currency. There will be a commission, it is 0.25% for USD, no idea for GBP. Also a fee of Baht400.

2 different call centre staff told me over the phone that my FCD account is only for receiving baht and I'd have to transfer to my baht account to do any outward transfers. Its a shame I can't try in the actual branch.

  2. Hi

Had a quick search but could only find topics regards inwards transfers

I have a GBP account with Bangkok Bank in Chiang Mai, but they say if I want to transfer the GBP to Singapore, I first have to change the GBP to Baht, then change it to SGD to transfer. Are there any high street Thai banks which allow GBP outward transfers or do I need to go to an International Bank? (presumbaly a trip to BKK to open?)

    Many thanks

    JD

  3. From Huay Tung Tao there is a great little walk to Dtaatmook waterfall. 30 to 60 mins up depending on your speed then cool down at the waterfall, although at this time of year might even be dry. There are a few ways to get there but the easiest and most pleasant is to drive to the north of the lake, then around the rice fields and park just before the army checkpoint. There is a small narrow dam accross the river which requires a couple of metre-long jumps then the attached map (thanks to cmhike.com) shows the rest. The walk stays next to the river (or stream depending on the season)

  4. Sansai:

Have to give a shout out for a new place near Sausage King - "Norm Thai Massage"

I've been to see Khun Ge (short 'e' like 'get' without the 't', in my english accent anyway) who seems to be the owner, twice in 2 weeks. She is strong, professional and clearly experienced. Her natural style is therapeutic hard Thai massage - there is another lady working there, Khun Ging, who I have yet to try but apparently she is softer. Ge has some interesting manouvres - I went through a lot of pain the first time but I went back for more.

the pin mark in the last post is approximate

and heres what the front looks like.

  6. I think i know the answer to this but I'd like to defer to higher wisdom

Is there any way the garage that replaced my Toyota corolla's starter motor could need to use almost half a tank of petrol to do any kind of testing during the procedure? Or is it Thailand protocol that they should use my car to drive into city (15km each way) to buy parts etc? Even then they would struggle to use 500THB of petrol.

    thanks

  7. Thanks. I'll try this place. Is it walk-in or do you need to book? Hourly rate?

I regularly use the blind massage places in the city. They're not suitable if you want a relaxing spa-like experience but they are very good at freeing up knots and tight muscles which requires a fair amount of pressure and pain. 180 THB/hour

Was 100 baht. Not been for 6 mths but they seemed to live there and the sign is still up outside.

There is also another shop with mum and 2 daughters who are good for both Thai and oil. From the main Mae Jo junction, 2 or 3km along 'Sahakon' road, on the RHSide. But looking at google earth i can't recall if its before or after the OTOP Community Massage (now closed)/ Fitness area

to clarify, ive been abroad 6 mths

  9. If you're in Mae Jo and you like it hard, there are a blind couple who both provide massage in a simple terraced house. I have only had the guy. Hard, but skillful. Great idea for a thread. I've only just seen it, shame it hasn't received more posts. I've also had consistently good massages at Fah Lanna (only been to the branch near night bazaar)

  10. New starts at 1,2m with a newer body style

your wheels look nice but to your taste not everybody's

So I'm thinking 4 almost 5 years old take the 800,000

almost 5 years? 3.5 years old please.........i sew 5 years old gor 850.000 at the dealers at sukhv.

2009, 2010,2011,2012, and soon the 2013 model year is upon us.

I am sure you noticed on on their lot as that asking price, dealers recondition the cars and sell them at top Baht.

Don't get me wrong, I like the look of you car, and you seem not to want to sell it quick but for top Baht. I understand your in the Pattaya area, 2 papers, and maybe the Bangkok one too, Sign on it, Ads on Thiavisa, bahtsold, Craigslist, the list goes on, See how your luck goes, Maybe you will be lucky. cars are an emotional thing to some. When I sell cars or bikes, once I decide to sell I price them to sell and move on, In the last year I have sold 2 trucks, 2 cars, and a half dozen bikes. I sold to the first to look at them, Yes, maybe I could have held out for more, But time also is money and it cost to advertise as your car deprisheates on your driveway

    wise words of wisdom

Do not be dragged into the paradox of choice. There are so many options for selling, so many options for buying, so many variables, so many judgements to make. Its so very easy to spend more in emotional energy than you will save in $/ THB/ £ . Time is precious. Peace is more precious. 690k take it or leave it.
