  1. Haven't yet seen them here, but in Central America, they have something like what you are describing and they are referred to as "coffee flies". About the size of a gnat, often gone by the time you feel the first itch, and leave what looks like a pin-prick of blood - just a small dot. If you can avoid scratching for the first 30 minutes, they tend to go away, but the more you scratch, the worse they get. Most of the repellents will help beforehand, but there are only a few home remedies that offer relief once you have started scratching. Personally, I have had good luck with squeezing that first drop of blood out, wiping it off, then trying like hell to ignore it for the next half hour, which is much better than suffering through the next day or two if you give in and scratch.

This will probably offer little relief, but if it is the same critter, an entomologist I know told me that what they do is excrete a little bit of urine on you, which is highly acidic and causes the blood spot. The enzymes in the urine cause the itching. Morale of the story is that it's better to be pissed off than pissed on.

i love being pissed on but ill try your technique next time and report back. thanks everyone for info. googling blackflies shows how small they are - which matches those i managed to swat.

  2. On a couple of different occasions (last one a few days ago) I've been bitten by flies around the Mae Kampong area (where Flight of the Gibbon is). A small drop of blood appears after the bite. Then they itch like mad, fading over 2 or 3 days. I've been at other times of the year and had no problems at all.

One friend had about 10 of these bites on her legs a couple of years ago and still has the scars to this day but I think that was a rare reaction.

Any ideas? I can't seem to find mention via search.

  3. try this, get a glass of water about half full then open a bottle of Leo. Stick the hole of the bottle directly into the glass of water, and hold the bottle upside down until what appears to be beer stops coming out.

Something comes out and when you drink the beer it will taste different with no more hangover. If you do it right no water should get into the beer.

Yes, Leo has been giving me headaches too, switched to Heineken.

Could you say that again in different words please. Its not making sense to me but sounds very interesting.

  4. And who was the one who brought this 1 year old topic up again? :whistling:

    moi :)

But only because it took me about 10 times longer than it should have to find the details of that Changpuak Honda place. Next time I search Thaivisa... voila! (ps they only had one pcx in stock whereas Nat had 7, all different, including some with custom bits that were 9000 baht extra)

  5. I sympathise with you. You are obviously a good guy with your wife's safety being your primary concern.

Well its now several months since the OP's original incident. Is she driving round on that potential death-trap or did you manage to find her something more safety-conscious to get from A to B ?

  6. I just had a new pcx delivered from Nat (brought 60km from another of their shops apparently as they didn't have my colour in stock). Somehow the throttle only worked if you twisted it the wrong way. But fair play, the delivery guy went back to bring a technician and he fixed it in about 5 minutes at my house in Mae Jo.

  7. I haven't ridden it either. Does offroadlanna or someone else have a GPS graph of Doi Suthep/Doi Pui?

Would be interesting to see for comparison purposes. Does anyone know the max gradients? For example I have never measured it but I don't think Doi Suthep/Doi Pui ever hits 15%

And does anyone happen to know where i could get GPS tracks for Inthanon area? Had a scout about on the net to no avail. Thanks

  8. The seller has promised that she will build a 4mwide road upon sale of the land

What has building a road now or later anything to do with this piece of land to be sold? And even if the road is built later' date=' the buyer of this piece of land has no automatic right of easement, unless it is recorded into the land title, and the title of the land the road is to be built.

    [/quote']

I should have been clearer, sorry. And now i have more info...

3 brothers each own a plot of land. The one my friend wants is the furtherst from the government road. The brothers have agreed to lay down a 4m wide road which will go from the govt road, through the first 2 plots, arriving at the last plot. So would all the titles have to be changed for this to be legally upholdable?

  9. Also; I'm mildly surprised that no one commented on the 39%(farang) and 61%(Thai) ownership of a Thai corporation which enables the farang to own his shares without the requirement of him having to park a large sum in a Thai bank.

Either everyone reading this already knows this (which is highly doubtful), or it's a big 'mai pen rai.'

Mee too. Nobody going to comment on the 'no money in the bank needed' ?
