  1. Was offered a new chilli 4WD 2.2 WT today from Chonburi Ford but seeing as I am going back to work next week we are still holding out for the 3.2 in April, with Ford's track record this is something I could come to regret......

It is your call but unless you are planning hauling boats and trailers, you don't really need all the extra horses from a 3.2. If you need the cache of the 4x4 when tooling around Pattaya-Jomtien and want it now, I would forget the big mill and take the 2.2 WT 4x4 that they are offering. Save some dosh (including fuel costs) and get on the road now.... unless they have sold it already. My experience on passing on Rangers that suddenly come available is you don't get a second chance.

No we have waited a long time for it and a bit longer wont kill me, it isnt just the engine it is the safety aspects, cameras, sensors, alarm, bigger wheels and all the rest, when we ordered it was only something like 80k baht more than the 2,2 4x4 if I remember correctly and we are still paying the original price which is now only 20k baht more than the 2.2 4x4 today

I have a 2,5 WT now and that is nippy enough but I do not want to go for 2.2 this time, I believe it is always worth having a few extra horses on these roads plus if it isnt delivered in April I will get my insurance and tax paid by Ford saving about another 25k baht for me as well when/if it does eventually turn up, time will tell...

Cool, you'll have it just in time for Songkran, with kids throwing everything at it!

The 2.2 is more than enough for me and I use mine on and off the roads. Although I must say that having had a drive of my mates 3.2 it is like shit off a shovel so I'm sure you'll love it. The prices when I ordered (at the start) from my recollection the 2.2 WT 4x4 was 969,000 Baht and 3.2 WT 4x4 was 1,069,000 Baht originally.

By the time I factor in the approximate 94,000 Baht first car tax rebate, I will have paid 875,000 Baht for my WT 2.2 4x4; which is 144,000 Baht cheaper than the current price (1,019,000 Baht) and 224,000 Baht cheaper than the current price of the 3.2L WT (1,099,000 Baht). To put this into context, based upon a price of 40 Baht per bottle of Leo Beer and an approximate 500 Baht per happy ending, I could afford to drink 2.8 Bottles per day free and also have a smile on my face every day for a year. Pie chart/graphical analysis to follow :)

    Ford, feel the difference.

  2. Was just in Pattaya Ford on Sukhumvit yesterday. There are going to be a lot of happy new Ranger owners. The back service yard and sides were packed with bright shiny Rangers in all guises. The Wildtrac sure is popular. As are four-doors.

I am picking up mine tomrrow smile.png after 8 month wait Chil WT 2.2 2wd.

Might as well have ordered a Lambo from Italy that would have been faster. biggrin.pngtongue.png

Weheey..!! pleased for you, feel free to drop by and show it off!

  3. Does anyone know if you can play music from an iPhone through the USB connection? I can only seem to get it to work through the line in port and headphone jack...

I thought the stereo was meant to have iPod integration.

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated;-)

Oh and for the sake of others asking wait times etc. I just picked up a white four door Wildtrak from Ford in Chiang Mai after only a few days wait...

Sorry mate I don't know about via the cable, but I know that you can play music thats stored on your phone via a Bluetooth connection.

  4. I was going to suggest the Choke Anan restaurant on Sukhumvit, opposite Soi KhaoTalo but already done... :)

So... for a similar type of restaurant, try the "Flying Green Vegetable" which is located on Pattaya Nua, almost opposite the HealthLand Spa and a gas station.

Try the Curried crab, or morning glory with belly pork. Dishes between 40B and 120B

Good service and value for money in both above places. Infact I wanted to have my wedding banquet at Choke Anan but the missus vetoed it.

    PS. Good thread. Me likey.

    • Thanks 1
  5. Not sure, but maybe the Rangers supplied to the Australian market may get the roller cover as a (Ford) option according to a mate of mine there. Anyone else have any info on that?

There are a couple of aftermarket options here (which i posted previously about) and have names such as 'roller lid' and 'roller up' by the likes of Carryboy and Raiton Lock respectively (amongst others). Incidentally it's fun getting a Thai girl to say "raiton lock roller lid". Try it.

A couple of guys I know have had them fitted both in Pattaya and in Bangkok. Cost approx 23,000 baht. The wife wants to have a other baby but I'm holding out for a roller lid.

    Meanwhile here is a totally unrelated pic;

  6. Are we talking a Thai domestic market Ranger or an Export Ranger, either way neither have voice or compass in mirror.

If domestic XLT it does not have voice as it has no bluetooth hence the phone function in the audio unit does not function which actually pissed me off a bit, guess I should have checked this before purchase but I figured the audio has the phone so I assumed it was functional.

    There was a thread on the (Thai) ranger forum a while ago about the bluetooth and voice control, seems like one of the guys there was trying to fit the bluetooth module to his XLT. Not sure exact details, or outcome either for that matter, but this is what he was after;

    Nokia RX-1C Part NO : 4M5T-19G488-AV

Also, the phone Microphone mounted on the ceiling is Part NO: 4M5T-19A39-1AA.

Not sure if after all of that, would have then had to buy a new steering wheel (where the voice control activation is on the WT).

  7. You can get the OEM camera/mirror kit for around 10,000 Baht ($330). They're available from sellers such as Tasca Parts via eBay (US). This is just for the parts. Then you have shipping/customs ontop of that.

A good option is the ford logo emblem (same as 3.2WT) for around 1000 baht. I fitted a camera under the bumper but its too low.

I went to the Tasca website and I don't see the OEM camera (Blue oval), can you supply a link. I found the OEM setup at another source in the US, but it was about $700 for camera and mirror, so close to what Spoonman said it will cost in Thailand.

Sorry I didn't get the link but made a screen grab at the time. This was a couple of months ago so I reckon the link has expired by now unfortunately so I cant check. I have seen other kits on ebay for around $700 as you rightly say, not sure whats different in them to be honest, perhaps the others include wiring etc?

Its funny before I had the camera fitted on mine I really thought I needed it, but to be honest I hardly use the thing, so I'm glad a got a cheap version really. As I said earlier though, I think the ford emblem with camera insert would be a good option for mounting the camera. Tidy, discreet and better viewing angle.

  9. Had a laugh (at myself) earlier this week. When I was at the pump I asked for 1000 baht's worth of diesel, when finished I paid the guy and drove off as normal. Having other things on my mind, I got about 3 km down the road until I realised my guage was still showing empty! I pulled over and switched my ignition off/on thinking that would 'clear it' but alas was still showing empty. My next reaction was that I had been duped and I was prepared to go back and give the sneeky miscreant pump attendant the 'good news' but luckily for both of us before I could make the u-turn to get back to the pump, my fuel gauge started to rise and began to register the 'km distance to pump' - this was about 10 mins after refueling. Phew! That could have been embarrassing smile.png

Edit: Forgot to say that the reason for posting this was I noted Thaimilto had an issue with his fuel gauge. Right, carry on.

  10. Here's the sign on the construction site. I had faith in the man in the pub's prediction.

So, what can we expect from the Colosseum Show? Illegal Burmese workers or farangs who fail to do their 90 day reporting being fed to the lions? Your suggestions welcome. All jolly good stuff.

  11. Is Mobil1 5W-30 the same as Castrol Magnatec 5W-30? ie viscosity etc the same, just different brand? Or is there another reason why should stick with Castrol?

I'm sure it's a stupid question, but be gentle, remember it's almost Christmas smile.png

The oils do the same job by their numbered designation but full synthetic is a looooooong lasting protective thingy. Read the can or use the Net to find out what a fancy name really is. smile.png

Thanks, I've downloaded the product data sheets for both, so looks like some light bedtime reading for me!

  12. you can legally drive here for 6 mths on a UK licence.. if you have the new style UK plastic licence you can just go to the transport office and get a Thai licence.. (you will need a copy of your passport, doctors certificate and do the basic colour blind and reaction test) it takes about 1 hour.

Wish it was still that simple here mate. At the test centre near Pattaya, they recently made it compulsory to also sit and watch videos on road safety and take a multiple-guess test in addition to the normal stuff you mentioned. . This applies even if you are renewing a 5 year Thai license.
