Hi all, I'll be making a road trip to Chiang Mai over the holidays (arrive 28th) and will be staying for 7 days or so. I was hoping to get a few pointers on a few things from you guys!
Any recommended places to celebrate new year?
Any daytime activities or sightseeing days out for the family? Not just CM itself, can be neighbouring areas. The kids like fishing, so any places like that would be a bonus. I'm bringing a couple of our mountain bikes so thats an option too.
Pub/restaurants where I can get a decent steak, or perhaps some good quality local food.
Sorry to ask alot, but appreciate any local knowledge and kind help or suggestions many thanks.

I was cycling there yesterday and seen the pickup truck had crashed through the gates and then into a police vehicle.
I must have just missed the action but there were 2 young guys being detained at the scene.

I'll be doing the tourist thing in Pai and CM over the holidays. We booked our places to stay a while ago now but even then were told many were full.
Keep an eye out for a fat bloke asking for directions.

There are plenty, most of which are located along Sukhumvit Road. Try somewhere like Siri-Anan who have quite alot of choice and sometimes do deals on certain brands. See map with locations of the ones i know of: https://www.google.co.th/maps/ms?msid=203220213817008928024.0004e092f0ab945349b90&msa=0

Do BIRA.....before it ends up as a memory.
Yep, sad that its been sold. Here's an interesting related article in this week's Pattaya Mail by Dr. Ian. http://www.pattayamail.com/automania/buriram-circuit-signs-with-japanese-29561?ref=pmci

I just did my 5 year renewal yesterday. I got there at 8.15 am, left at 10.20 am with both licenses renewed. I found it all relatively easy thanks to the information posted here on this thread, so thanks very much everyone for that
Here's the current price list that was on display;I don't think that this has been posted before (forgive me if I'm wrong), so here's a link to the dept of land transportation's website officially stating what you need (scroll down a little bit for 5yr renewals); http://bit.ly/14YGzXw
Tip: Get there early. As soon as you arrive make your way to the ticket machine which is located at bottom of stairs and press button #`1 (NOT button #2 which is for Thai's).

this guy sells three different versions from 6,000 Baht but they're "plastwood" http://on.fb.me/1d1cikF
One guy who was making them (in Songklha) got a warning from Ford regarding copyright infringement and was forced to stop doing them (or advertising atleast) - I should still have his email address, will check to see if theyre 1 piece jobbies.

It's worth checking to see if the "simply cool shop" has such a product. http://www.simplycoolshop.com/ I know that they have a kit which folds door mirrors etc but not sure on total closure

You may be better off dialling 1150, which is for Pizza Hut. Their drivers are very fast and the operators speak English.

Most of the videos I've came across are ones with crashes in them, its amazing how the drivers can survive them..
Spectacular crashes.... http://youtu.be/zXBXj0BPcDIThis one's a bit nasty http://youtu.be/A05lJJnkWJQ

here's a google map (work in progress) which shows locations of some automotive suppliers including wheel and tyre shops in and around Pattaya - which are mostly located along Sukhumvit Rd - so maybe OP can try a few of these places out. http://bit.ly/15jf2Uv Please feel free to add any places (nationwide).

Possibly overloaded with Watermelons , or Village People.
I don't think carrying an indian,a cowboy, a construction worker, a policeman, a GI and a biker would break the driveshaft on a truck. It would probably ruin your credibility in heterosexual company, result in lost dinner party invitations and mean that many women would want to be your friend. Perhaps he should also refuse lifts to the Pet Shop Boys and Right Said Fred.
Seen in Khon Khaen yesterday

Does anyone know where to get seat covers for 2 door WT and the approx cost?
I'm in Pattaya.
Thanks.
Hi JaiLai, I'm sorry I don't know any local places, but if you're after covers in a 'Wildtrak' style then one place that supply them is "Master M Cover" in Bangkok, who deliver them. Here is their website with contact details: http://www.carseatthai.com/ There are some WT pics on their FB page too.
Ones pictured above were 6,500 Baht, for a 4 door XLT.

Do you guys know if the ice and fan method generates much humidity? I wouldn't think so, but who knows.
No it would actually de-humidify up until around 6 deg C in liquid state.
But did you know.... that Arabian caravans in the deserts used beaded curtains soaked in water so that whenever the breeze would blow through it would create a cooling effect. The water on the strings would evaporate in the warm air naturally (latent heat of evaporisation) the same key principle used throughout most ac systems to this very day!
If you need any further useless information just PM.

A guy I know picked up his Wildtrak 3.2 from his Ford dealer in Bankgok last weekend. He changed the wheels & tyres and also had an ARB suspension system fitted on the same day.
I have inherited his stock 18" wheels & tyres and I intend to replace my Ford 17" with these. He also gave me his coil springs, shocks etc that were removed from his 3.2 but I am not sure if I really need or not? Apart from them being more or less brand new, do you think there is any benefit for me to change out the whole lot at same time as doing the wheels?

I have distributed the photo to my friends in Pattaya via Facebook. Hope that helps.

New car tax rebate. Delayed
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
Received "our" rebate 12 months after "we" took delivery of the car (a slack 90,000 Baht straight into the knicker draw never to be seen again).
