  1. Thanks, I'm always looking for new vegetarian restaurants.

This month's City Life listed/reviewed a place called House of Tofu without directions. I couldn't find it. Anybody know where it is? Somebody said its actually on Canal Road.....?

How far from Thaepae Gate is Taste of Heaven? Is it closer to the river?

  2. I came across the new beer from the makers of Chang at Tesco Lotus yesterday. Not really to my taste as it seems a little sweet, but some might like it for a change.

I'm still looking for a retailer of the Tsing Tao and Munchen in Chiang Mai. Two pretty good Chinese beers in the 45 baht or so range for a small bottle at Villa Supermarket and some minimarts in Bangkok.

  3. For those who travel to Bangkok, I just noticed that the minimart in the condo where I stay in Bangkok carries the whole kine of MTR INdian products. They cost 80 baht per item.

The building is "The Grand" located next to the Four Seasons Hotel on Rajadamri Road, Soi Mahadlekluang 2. It's just 20 meters or so from the Rajadamri BTS stop.

  4. Off topic: The Mach 3 razor used with any cream, foam, oil, etc. gives me such a great daily trouble free and painless shave that I weep with joy and gratitude every morning!

  5. Hi,

I'm looking for tennis partners to play singles at about an intermediate level. I live close to CMU and like to play there or at 700 year stadium, but I'm open to playing anywhere.

    Please PM.

    Thanks,

    Rick

  6. I commute once or twice weekly between Chaing Mai and Bangkok and will spend any amount of money to fly on any other airline than Air Asia.

Its only when you fly them regularly that you really understand the hideous corporate culture and disturbing business ethics.

One Two Go seems to be run by kids pretending they have a functioning airline.

Nok is the best of the LCC's on my route, but still sometimes problamatic.

  7. I teach in the international programs at Thammasat at Tha Prachan campus which you are likely enrolled in. Almost all of the exchange students tell me they are having a great time, are able to travel, and sometimes miss the occasional class because of travelling with no great penalty.

  8. Q Can I bring “ Sex Workers “ back to the apartment ?

A We have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY towards sex tourism.

Prostitution even though notably visible in a lot of countries in Asia is against the law and illegal in Thailand.

"For your safety and personal health as well as the safety of the other tenants of the building you are strictly prohibited from bringing any Sex Workers / Bar Girls / Prostitutes ( of any sex ) back to the apartment.

It is the policy of Company to immediately evict any Guest at any hour of the day if they violate this rule . Their personal information will then be relayed to the Royal Thai Police and a copy of the report forwarded to their Embassy / Consulate.

Please be aware that the building security is obliged to notify us and the Police should you attempt to bring sex workers back to your apartment. The building for security purposes also has security cameras in the common areas.

Our insurance does NOT cover us, you or your personal belongings in the event of theft or damage done by a third party. You will be held full responsible and liable for any damage or theft to our property or the buildings property or common areas.

If the purpose of your visit to Chiang Mai is to be a sex tourist then we do not want your business and suggest you look elsewhere for accommodation."

AS SOMEONE ONCE SAID: "ANY COMMENT WOULD BE SUPERFLUOUS!"

  9. I also had Lasik at Bumrungrad about 4 years ago and had really bad dry eyes.

I got lower punctal plugs at TSRC. I think its worth doing.

I don't recall the cost .... not really that expensive, maybe 200 dollars at the time. I think the plugs helped, but I'm not sure. Over the last 3 years the dryness has gotten a little better so that I now sometimes go a day or two without noticing it.

    http://www.medcompare.com/details/31510/SmartPLUG.html I got these plugs.

I tried a temporary plug for free I believe before deciding to go with the permanent plug.

Might try taking a look at Restasis as well.

    Good Luck!

  10. I regularly get some standard and routine blood tests. In Bangkok I usually just go directly to a lab where it is about half the price of a hospital. It seems fairly common and accepted to do this.

A pharmacist here in Chiang Mai suggested a place across the moat from Chiang Mai Ram. Any experiences with them or other suggestions?

    Thanks!

  11. I got hit in the eyes today by a thick stream of water as I was going about 40 on a Honda Wave on Canal Road followed almost immediatly by someone passing me going about 120 only an inch or so from my mirror.

My fault I know for venturing out into the bizarro world.

  12. My Honda Wave semi-atomatic with centrifigual clutch (I guess) seems to be slipping when it is under load (two people - heavy acceleration) Seems to be getting worse and sometimes it does it when its hot and I'm alone on the bike. I have about 11K on the bike.

Is there some adjustment that needs to be made and/or should have been made during normal maintenance or is this a transmission repair issue?

Anybody know the Thai phrase that describes a slipping clutch? It's somewhat intermittant so I might not be able to have them feel it.

    Thanks.

  13. Shangrila is, for now, by far the best in Chiang Mai ( I think I've looked at them all) if you are looking for a quality spa-like gym. The equipment is the basic Life Fitness hotel package plus some free weights, but the amenities and comfort level are pretty high.

When I stopped by early last month they were still figuring out the price, but I seem to remember 24K per year was mentioned......
