  1. Rotating between locations can give you that needed reboot, ~ 4 months in your old town, 4 in BKK and 4 in someplace new, maybe some island life.

This is what works for me. 3 months in Bkk is enough at one go, then off to Jomtien for a similar stay and then to home country where I am fortunate enough to maintain a home.

I did stay in Bkk for a complete 12 months one year and it was far to long for me.

  2. I paid 9,000 baht for a will in Thai and English. At Swiss Siam legal on Threppasit Rd. Not sure if this was a special price becaue I have done business there before or not, but I think it is the regular price.

  3. It's called a garden hose!

if you do fit them in australia make sure you reduce the the water pressure or they will burst and flood your bathroom

Yes this is important, it happened to me, fortunately I was at home and heard the explosion.

The cheaper the bum gun the more likely this is to happen.

I buy many bum guns at friend's requests to tote back to the US. The most satisfactory brand I have found is VRH brand, good-looking in brushed stainless steel and available at HomePro, HomeWorks, Boonthavorn, Kanyong and other stores. Cost about 1700 THB.

Another point, the "kitchen salad sprayer" does not deliver the water in the same manner, most people I know prefer a small nozzle not the wider spray of the salad sprayer. You may use your imagination as to the reason for this.

  4. I thought the food court was a major ripoff, at least for the drinks.

When I asked the gal for my usual "large coke, no ice" she proceeded to grab a small glass. Thinking she didn't undersand, I tried correcting her "no, no, LARGE".

To which she replied "Large no ice, you get small glass!"

I don't complain often but this STINGINESS bordering on meanness is one of the things that is a constant irritation in Thailand.

To be charged extra for some additional mayonnaise, or more ice, or no ice at all, etc., is an extension of the poor customer service that seems to exist throughout the country.

I have spent time in other poor countries such as Mexico and Panama and didn't find this to be the case there.

  5. I fly frequently from Bangkok-Los Angeles-Bangkok on EVA Air. The best solution for the meal problem in my case is to order "Chinese vegetarian" in advance. I find most of what is pesented at least palatable although some food items look a bit strange. I used to order Indian vegetarian but I grew tired of the curry taste for three meals in a row, even though I like curry.

  6. Did you see the Fatburger posted by Zaphodbeeblebrox..........I have never seen anything like it. Even the fries look great...........I AM SO HUNGRY FOR A REAL HAMBURGER.

I am going to eat at Fatburger on Ramon Road in Palm Springs CA near the airport TONITE!

Eat your heart out, JR! LOL

  7. I've avoided Mosburger as I notice only Asians eating at the one in Central World!

is that a bad thing ?

I would say it is not a good indicator.

I'm in Southern California right now and I would avoid a Mexican restaurant where only non-Mexicans eat.

    Same same.

  8. haha funny story. makes sense, if we get 30% unemployment and martial law then for sure, there will be demand for more brawny men

and popshirt, dont be so anal. the article applies just as much or more to gay men.

I don't know how you can be sure of that, it certainly does not apply to me. The article is all about straight men and straight women.

  9. I am a huge fan of Fisher-Paykel. I had never heard of this company before I moved to Thailand. I recently fitted out a condo with mostly Fisher-Paykel appliances which are very sleek, smart looking, energy efficient and only moderately expensive (in my opinion).

Probably the main reason I purchased F-P was because the appliances were made and assembled in Australia or New Zealand. I have learned--and I am sorry to say this--that appliances made in Thailand tend to be unreliable and are often ugly to look at and warranties are either worthless or almost impossible to claim.

Hopefully F-P will offshore their quality control and business practices to Thailand as well as their goods.

  10. I am a frequent flyer on EVA and also endorse the airline. But sometimes strange things happen to their online site, such as not being able to select a seat even within the 90-days-before period; no problem with the Taipei-LAX selection, but unable to select Bkk-Taipei. I have kept trying and today was able to select a seat. Guess what, only two seats were left on the flight and those in the middle of the middle..........

I will take my chances at the gate.

  11. The financial crisis we are now facing is the result of sheer greed, and the talk of high taxation discouraging investment is self serving claptrap.

I absolutely agree. And I come from a country where socialism is a dirty word, largely because of ignorance.

  12. Uruguay........please keep it a secret........it is the best place in all of S. America.......and they want you......gorgeous coastline, easy visa rules, very little crime........

I have heard very good things about Uruguay recently from friends who have traveled and stayed there.

Montevideo is quite a cosmopolitan city and the beaches are stunning and clean.

Cost of living is low, probably less than Thailand.

I don't know anyone who has actually lived there for a period of time but I think it is worth investigating.

For me a big plus is that I speak Spanish and that would be a nice change.

  13. I tire of the constant battles here, there and everywhere

I feel the same way. While I really enjoy most of my stay in Thailand, and have been here for a while, the non-stop battles over the smallest thing is wearing me down.

The thing is that without the family and some business interests I would be gone in 60 seconds. The negatives have started to outweigh the positives and though I might have found other places to have their own problems which encroach over time, the sheer stupidity whilst thinking they are actually clever is mind blowing here. Most places with stupid people don't have those stupid people actually thinking they know more than they really do know. Well, not on the same level as Thais for sure.

Perhaps this is just a bad day for me, but I tend to agree. I have family and real estate here, but I would probably leave as well if I were free to do so. Fortunately I am able to spend a few months twice a year in farangland which is becoming more and more attractive to me as time goes by.

  14. Update on Continental Bakery in Jomtien

I learned that one of my dining partners called the owner of Continental to report on our bad experience there.

He talked with a Thai lady, presumably one of the owners, and she was not only apologetic but offered to host him at breakfast there and said she would like to hear in more detail what he thinks would make the restaurant part of the bakery more farang-pleasing.

I thought this was a very nice response and wanted to let TV folks know about it.

  15. popshirt - one complaint about the breads at the market in Central. I bought some bagels there that could have been used to bludgeon people with. Do you know where I can find a good blueberry bagel around here??

I like the breads at L'Etoile next to Central even better.

However I am not a fan of bagels so cannot help you on that.

Jing would know, I recall he is a bagel boy.

  16. I have become completely disenchanted with the Continental restaurant/bakery on Thepaya Road near Thepasit Rd in Jomtien. The bread is still very good quality but the breakfast prices have risen about 20% or more since I was last there; the staff is untrained and almost surly. Three of us ate there yesterday (one Thai and two farang, one farang speaks Thai). We were the only customers and there were about five staff hanging about. We were ignored most of the time and the person who ordered the "healthy" breakfast with muesli was denied any milk for the cereal being told that it comes only with yogurt--including a pious pointing at the menu by the server to indicate that no milk was promised there for this order. The muesli and yogurt mix was suggestive of a textured patching compound, almost dry and the head server supported the original waiter in denying that any milk was included in the order. After insisting, a small half glass of milk was produced. There was more as well, lukewarm tea, "marmalade" that was just coloured sweet slop with no fruit and the necessity for each of us to plead for knives, forks, etc. The food was cooked at the "other" Continental just down the street and was served cold. Who wants to eat cold eggs? It was an unpleasant experience and I will not return. Fortunately I can now obtain very good breads at Central so no need to visit Continental for that and the parking is much simpler at Central.

  17. Interesting. I wouldn't assume using a non-water based moisturizer would cause condoms to break assuming it had been absorbed into the skin, yes?

I think you are correct in that. But there is a great product out there (in farangland) called MOO Cream. MOO as in cow, not pork. It was developed to treat chafed cow udders and later discovered by women (and men) to be an excellent moisturizer. It was sold for a long time at Trader Joe's markets, then discontinued, but I am told it is now available at Wal Mart of all places. I buy from their website and stock up about once a year. There are several uses for it besides cow udders and faces; it does not dry out and washes out easily from clothing or bedding. It is mostly water based but contains some mineral oil and lanolin so is probably not safe to use with condoms.

    The website is udderlysmooth.com

  18. Ah, exfoliation. I started to use a loofah pad. Its great.

I find the loofah pad (every other day) works so well I don't really understand why people use expensive gritty goos. Are they that much more effective?

Mods, I hope this topic is gay enuf.

    gay enuf for me.........

the loofah pad is fine for the body but too rough for the face......gritty goos are not really expensive (Nivea, etc.) because they last a loooooong time
